  1. I had my oath ceremony today and am officially a us citizen!! It was held in Moaab , The Arches National Park so my Husband and I went down last night and made a trip out of it. It was supposed to be at a lookout but was raining so got moved inside. Started early as everyone was there. They started off with all different natuonalities, 4 of us were from UK:-) , and then a group of students sang national anthem. We then stood up and took oath. We didn't have to repeat word after word, just hold up right hand and say I Do. At the end there was a chance for anyone to come up with their stories. I'm quite a stoic, stiff upper lip, kind of person but even I got a lump in my throat. What was interesting was the woman conducting it urged us to keep embracing our cultures, thats what makes America what it is. Then we got certificates and had pictures. Also had a little'party pack' with letter from president, passport application, voting info etc.

Feels so good that I now have the same rights as everyone and can put all this behind me. Thank you to this site and everyone that has helped me over the years. Its because of you everything since 2008 has gone smoothly and I hadn't had to get an immigration lawyer.

Good luck to everyone. You have all worked so hard to get to this point!

  2. Hi

I had my interview today and wanted to share my experience.

The things I brought with me were my Marriage certificate, divorce certificate (previous marriage) this years tax forms, ALL passports (3 altogether- 2 expired) Interview letter...I think that's it. The only thing they asked to see was my interview letter!

I got there at 9.05am (10 min before my appointment) and it was relatively busy. I went through security and then put my interview letter through a slot as required and then sat and wait. I was called about 20min later by a very pleasant lady who chatted with me on the way back to her office. Immediatley before sitting down I had to take the oath and then we got right into the civics portion! Now, these questions are generated from their computers and my questions were EXACTLY the same another user on this forum who also had their interview today, Sopropano I think the username is. So much so that, when I couldn't remember one of the questions asked, I scrolled though what Soprano user had put and it reminded me! They were as follows:

    How many senators are there?

What's the ocean on the east coast of the US?

    When was the Constitution writen?

Name one State that borders with Mexico?

    What is freedom of religion?

When should people apply for selective service

Coincidence that we had the same questions or maybe something more into it like the same questions are generated on the same day? Might be worth looking into to see of theres a pattern.... anyway, after this I had to do the English portion. This surprised me seeing as im from England and English is my 1st Language. Well, I passed that of course and then she got to my application packet. Just normal qs like date of birth, where do I work. She then asked how many times I had been out of the US in the last 5 years which I couldn't remember. When I mentioned that my last time was this summer she said it wasn't on there. I thought that was very strange as its unlike me to miss something out like that so I said that im sure I would've put it on a separate paper if I had run out of space on the official form. She looked and there it was! Then she got to arrested/citation portion. This was where I was nervous. I had not disclosed my traffic violation for speeding 3 years ago ($70) but I had read people saying that youre under oath and its still a citation despite being under $500. I had also read people saying it doesn't matter. I therefore wanted to play it safe and decided to tell her. I did not want it coming back to haunt me later even if the probability of that was small. I stopped her and said that I wasn't sure I had to disclose it due to being under $500 but wanted to disclose it now. I said that I could get an instant driving report if need be (you can download it for a fee of $40) but she said that she could access it (of course she could, she is part of the government I suppose haaha) and a few taps on the keyboard it appeared from the printer. She made a few corrections on my N400 and it was done.

She then updated her system and told me I was approved. I had to sign a paper and then......the best bit! She told me that I could wait for an oath ceremony letter for a local location OR she could put me in the system for the ceremony taking place in 2 weeks (5th May) at The Arches National Park in Moab! She told me the ceremony would be beautiful and outside in a lovely setting. Of course I said yes and she said to expect to receive a letter stating times etc in a few days!! Moab is only a few hours from us and its a beautiful National Park! I even asked if we could take our dog and she went into a convo with me about how she loves dogs etc etc. I don't think we will take her though... Anyway, my husband and I are going to make a little vacation out of it. Stay at hotel night before and attend ceremony next day.

I was so nervous and happy its all over. Good luck to you all :)

  3. Hi

I have my interview tomorrow and believe I have everything I need. However, I was scanning the internet and noticed someone had put something about not having their paid traffic ticket with them. I had no idea we had to include a minor thing like a speeding ticket?? I had one a few years back which I paid. Now please don't scare me, my interview is tomorrow morning so realistically I can't do anything in terms of getting proof of this, but should I bring this up? Is it even that big of a deal? Part of me is thinking they won't even notice and if they do, I could put it down to forgetting....

  4. Hi all,

I'm have my interview tomorrow . I think I'm all set on the questions and have the following to bring along:

    Passports (expired and present)

    Green card

    Interview letter

Marriage certificate (even though I'm doing this on 5yr rule not 3yr)

Anything else? I printed off a copy of my n400 application a while back and was going to look thru it to see my answers\freshen my memory but I can't find it. How detailed do they go in this?

Lastly, do they approve on spot or is it always thru a decision letter?

    Thanks :-)

  5. the question are same online and in the booklet. I got booklet at my biometrics and it just gives history about questions. For ex it'll ask the question what does the constitution do? it has ans then it gives background info about that particular question. Just to be on safe side use USCIS official site for test materials...link for uscis site: http://www.uscis.gov/citizenship/learners/study-test

and also in the book for names of representatives and senators it says go to certain site. for ex for senator it says senate.gov... if u want i can post few sample pictures of the book if you'd like...

    Thank you!

  6. Hi

I received an appointment letter for my biometrics for the 20th Feb but I was out of State and wasn't able to attend. As instructed I sent the letter back requesting a new appointment. I sent it back the week before last and so are really hoping they got it before the 20th otherwise they might think it abandoned. Should I call to check up on this? Also, does anybody know how long I will have to wait for another appointment. I'm afraid I've really delayed the process...

    Thanks!

  7. Hi

I am planning on sending my application form for Naturalization this month. I have completed my N400 based off of the 5year rule. My new legal name is not on my GC. Do I need to include my marriage lisence along with my divorce decree from previous marriage?

    Other items needed:

Copy of GC (front and back)

    Photos

    Cheque

Anything else? Also I am living in UT. Where do I find out what location I need to send the application to?

    Thanks!

  8. Estimates are generally fine when it comes to addresses in the US. your address(es) generally pop up once they run your background check. They will most likely ask you to bring your passport/travel documents for interview. So you're better off finding/entering exact travel dates. Just look at the stamps at POE for your travel dates.

thanks for the response. I dont know if I have all of my travel itinery stuff and I have renewed my passport so I dont know if ill get my old one back. If I do, all that is stamped is entry back into the USA. Most of my trips have been back to UK so I didnt need to get stamped on entry for this...

  9. I'm filling out the N400 form and it asks for days out of the USA, vacation dates, employment dates etc over the last 5years! I have a general idea but don't know specific dates! Is this a problem? They also ask for addresses. Every time I have moved I have filled out a change of address form so they have everything on file!? Why are they asking again? Has anybody given estimations and been fine?

  10. Oh, I have one more question:-D I'm filling out the N400 form and it asks for days out of the USA, vacation dates, employment dates etc over the last 5years! I have a general idea but don't know specific dates! Is this a problem? They also ask for addresses. Every time I have moved I have filled out a change of address form so they have everything on file!? Why are they asking again? Has anybody given estimations and been fine?

  11. Neither US or UK recognize dual citizenship/ What that means, even if you get US citizenship, to the UK you are a UK citizen. Same the US doesn't care about the UK, you are a US citizen once you take your oath. Renounce a citizenship does not happen when you give an oath to another country (some counties like india do take it seriously though). For example: Tunisia. In order to renounce my citizenship, I have to go to Tunisian embassy, show them I have another citizenship I keep, sign papers give back my passport and walk away like Im a foreigner (I don't want to do that though). UK is the same, Canada as well.

Even though that you are dual citizen, when on UK soil you are only a UK citizen (Not US citizen). Same with the US, when on US soil you are onyl a US citizen (not a UK citizen)

    I hope I helped.

Thank you! I thought UK did recognize dual citizenship though?
  12. Technically, an oath to renounce your British citizenship has to be made in front of a British consular official and be compliant with British law. Since the oath you make at a US naturalisation ceremony is not in front of a British embassy official and is not their required verbiage then it is not considered valid under British law, and so your British citizenship remains intact.

Perfect! That's what I wanted to hear :))
