  1. Hi Folks,

I recently came to US on K-1 visa and going to get married tomorrow. My fiancee is arranging the documents for AOS. The I-864 document requires almost the same information as I-134 which she prepared 3-4months back. Not much information has changed. So is it fine to use the same evidences like employment letter for I-864.

Another query is my fiancee has not yet changed her last name (ofcourse not until tomorrow). But in the I-864 should she use my last name? In which case her evidences will have a different last name.

Then my fiancee hasnt filed any income tax return since she started working only this year. But she is going to get her dad to co-sponser. Is it enough to provide his income tax returns?

Is I-864A (for sponser) the same form as I-864 filled out by the spouse?

    Thanks

  2. Hi,

I recently got my K1 visa approved. I will be travelling to US to marry my fiance in a month. I would like to change my last name since its a bit long as well as its my dad's 1st name, (In our tradition we have our father's first name as our last name). So is there any way of doing this during the marriage as well as not affect the paper work for AOS.

If this is not possible, is it mandatory that my fiancee need to change her last name to my last name? can we wait until AOS process is done?

    or

can my fiance change her last name to my first name?

    Thanks

  3. Thank You VJers, thanks evryone here, thanks Rachel&Alex, Sunnybear, blake&olha, Cecile&Bryan and others I havnt mentioned thanks a lot for your help and support. My K1 visa got approved today. The interview dint last more than 10-15mins. It was absolutely smooth. I was asked to collect my visa, passport and a package to show at POE next thursday. Swathi and I are so happy. Guess I will be flying to US in August, still have some stuff pending here.

We wil be hanging around here guys, esp for AOS. All the best for all those in various stages of their visa process. Good Luck!.

Rachel when are you planning to goto CA? you will be marrying in Sunnyvale?

    Thank you again guys.

  4. I wanna share the happy news that my interview date has been set, its going to be on 26th June

(This Thursday) at the consulate in Singapore. I had earlier returned my DS2001 in person (lol! thy let me into the embassy). The very next day they sent me the interview letter.

That better be good as it is my birthday :D

Also, I read a few answers on your questions but I think the answers should be the following:

    1. Will they give back my original records? like birth certificate, vaccination record, medical examination

    4. I read that for AOS I can use the same medical record and vaccination record. So is there any specific thing I must do to get those copies?

    1. You will get them back in the brown envelop that will be send to you. The envelop is sealed and should not be opened but should be surrendered at the POE. If you want to be sure, then also add a copy of each original so they can give you the original back if needed (they will not make copies for you).

    4. The answers are basically provided on this page: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...mp;page=k1k3aos

    See the following lines:

    - A copy of the intending immigrant's birth certificate along with English translation. (note: it says a copy so it doesn't have to be the original, besides, you should never send originals to USCIS - Jeroen).

    - I693, Medical Examination of Aliens Seeking Adjustment of Status. (If you already have this from your overseas Visa Interview submit a copy that medical check form; No fee is required in this case. If you are a K-1 fiancé(e) or K-2 dependent who had a medical examination within the past year as required for the nonimmigrant fiancé(e) visa, you only need to submit a vaccination supplement (I-693A), not the entire medical report. You may include the vaccination supplement with your adjustment of status application.)

Your spouse may also be required to have a medical sometime during the AOS process. The medical must be done by a CIS Designated Civil Surgeon. Your CIS office should give you a list of CIS accredited doctors in your area, if not check with your local office to get one. The medical exam can cost anywhere from $100-200 dollars, many physicians will not take a check, but only accept cash. Be prepared of the cost before your spouse gets this done. It would be wise to collect their vaccination information before going to the appointment as the doctor will need to have record of them. At the appointment your spouse will be tested for TB, AIDS and Syphilis. If they do the skin test for TB, they will be required to return to the CIS doctors office to have the site checked before they finish the exam paperwork. Note: Some CIS Offices allow you to schedule your appointment when you want, as long as it is done before the AOS appointment, check with your CIS office to see how they handle CIS medical exams before filing your AOS paperwork.

Hope this helped a bit :)

Thank you Rachel, Bryan and Mitchell for your pointers.

Is it Jeroen's birthday or Michelle's? My adavanced BDay wishes. your B Day is my D Day lol !

All I am goin to do today is sit n view all reviews from VJers about their interview.

  5. Hi guys, hope evrythin is goin well with you.

I wanna share the happy news that my interview date has been set, its going to be on 26th June (This Thursday) at the consulate in Singapore. I had earlier returned my DS2001 in person (lol! thy let me into the embassy). The very next day they sent me the interview letter.

I am also a bit nervous. Hope things go well and they dont find any fault. Following are the documents I am taking.

    1. Interview letter

    2. copy of I-129F filed by my fiancee, and attached proofs

    3. NOA1, NOA2

    4. Birth Certificate (also notarized affidavit from my mother since her name was spelt wrong in the birth cert). Also taking my school certificate indicating my birth date and parent's names, just in case they wanna see more proof.

    5. Police certificate from Singapore and Indian Embassy in Singapore.

    6. Passport (needless to say)

    7. Affidavit of support from my fiancee and her father. He is nto business, hence only taking his last 3 years tax return.

    8. Bankers Cheque to pay at the embassy.

    9. Poof of relationship which includes

Intent to marry from my fiancee (though embassy did not ask for)

Few engagement pictures of us with family members

Bills of Engagement Ring, bangles I gifted her

Her travel documents to prove she visited me twice in the past year

Lots of pictures taken together during both her visits

    Chat records from gtalk

Phone call records from my fiancee

    Greeing cards exchanged

    10. Forms DS 156-2 copies printed out from web. DS 156K 1 copy printed out

    11. Lot of passport size 5x5cms photos.

    12. Apart from that, my student card in Singapore, my degree certificate, certificate of scholarship and enrollment in Singapore university. (I am completing my masters degree here next month.)

    13. My vaccination and medical records have been already sent to the embassy directly by the doctor. so I am gonna just take the bill.

....well thats about it I guess.

    I have a few questions:

    1. Will they give back my original records? like birth certificate, vaccination record, medical examination

    2. What is the major thing they look at for issuing K1

    3. Sould I tell them exact date I am goin to travel?

    4. I read that for AOS I can use the same medical record and vaccination record. So is there any specific thing I must do to get those copies?

    Please provide your suggestions

    Thank you

  6. Hi guys,

I have a prob with my birth cert. it has my mother's name spelled wrong. I guess this is because they phonetically translated the name in english from the native languade. instead of "vaidehi" the name is "vaitheki". Will the consular officier pick on this? to be safe I had asked my mom to send me a notarised affidavit claiming both names refer to the same person.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

    Raghu

  7. Rachel, what is your fiance gonna fill for question 10. and 11. on the I134 affidavit of support?

He's going to copy what is on the example form here. :)

had a problem with my birth certificate, I have only copies. I guess the registarar in India only provide copies. I am trying again to get an original.

Well, no one ever actually has their 'original' birth certificate as this is the birth certificate that is kept by the government. What you are thinking of in terms of 'original' and 'certified copy' mean the same thing - i.e. a copy obtained from the registrar should be automatically a certified copy. A normal copy would just be a photocopy you yourself made of the certified copy. Does that make sense?

One more problem is my fiance is working part time and paid hourly basis, though she earns around 30000$ annually, her employers say they can ony quote per hour rate on her employment letter. Though she has her time sheets from the company, we are really confused what to write for annual salary :(. Anyways her dad is co sponsoring and filling out for sme 100K$ annually which should help us out. He runs a consultancy firm, so another question is whether it is enough to show 3 yrs of tax return for him.

Hmm, I would probably work out how much she earns per annum, then write that figure down and perhaps include your working out in brackets? So '$29,120 (35 hours per week at $16 per hour)', for example.

    Thanks Rachel

Anyways I applied for another copy of Birth Certificate.

  8. Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes! I had a great one! Dbears too darn funny and yes that was me on Saturday night ;)

Happy Monday to all and hopefully a busy filled week of approvals for CSC! Please oh please fingers and toes crossed!!!! I have almost all our stuff ready to send to Gareth for the next step including my sisters papers as well for her being a co-sponser. Will get all sent to Gareth by next Monday so he has it ready to go!

Thinking positive and hope to see our approval SOON.

Today is my baby's last day of kindy awwww! We are gonna go out to lunch and then go see Kung Fu Panda :) Have a great Monday all!

Happy B Day Sunnybear. All the best for your NoA2

  9. Rachel, what is your fiance gonna fill for question 10. and 11. on the I134 affidavit of support?

hi all, hope ur continuing to have a good time and CSC is kicking alive. i am very intensely trying to get my documents to submit to the singapore embassy. had my medicals again last week (had wasted one in India). here in singapore vaccination is mandatory it seems so had MMT, TD and Vericella, one more shot of vericilla required but not mandatory for interview. I have to send back a checklist to the embassy before they schedule my interview. I have applied for police certificates at Indian embassy and Singapore police. I am goin to collect Indian Police cert tday from the embassy. Singapore takes 2 weeks :(

had a problem with my birth certificate, I have only copies. I guess the registarar in India only provide copies. I am trying again to get an original.

Anybody got any idea what a certified copy means? In the visa instructions sent t me, the embassy asked for "Certified Copy of your Birth Certificate." I called up the embassy and listened to a lady who exactly said whats on the instruction given to me, but refused to clarify anything.

One more problem is my fiance is working part time and paid hourly basis, though she earns around 30000$ annually, her employers say they can ony quote per hour rate on her employment letter. hope you guys can give me some suggestions

    Thanks

  10. Congratulations to you and Cassi, Benny!

btw my fiance is not sure of how to arrange the wedding in the US. shes in CA and wants to know what should be done to get marriage certificate and begin the AOS process. I dearly need a EAD on entry, is JFK trustworthy? cos if i land there, I will have to travel over to the otherside of the continent again.

    Cheers!

I can't really help with the rest, but the marriage certificate will need to be picked up in person - recommended a month or so in advance. I believe it is then valid for three months (but you have to get married within three months anyway). I understand that it's also better if you can both go in person to get the marriage certificate, although I don't believe it's a requirement. This is all just what I understand from reading websites.

where do we have to go inorder to get marriage certificate? where should we register?

According to this the requirements are:

Both parties must appear in person and bring valid picture identification to the County Clerk’s Office to apply for a marriage license in California. Valid picture identification is one that contains a photograph, date of birth, and an issue and expiration date, such as a state issued identification card, drivers license, passport, military identification, etc. Some counties may also require a copy of your birth certificate.

If you have been married before, you will need to know the specific date your last marriage ended, and how it ended (Death, Dissolution, Divorce or Nullity). Some counties may require a copy of the final judgment if your previous marriage ended by dissolution or nullity.

Marriage licenses are valid for 90 days from the date of issuance. If you do not get married within 90 days, the license will no longer be valid. You must purchase a new license.

So it looks like you DO have to both be present in order to obtain the certificate.

Thanks a lot Blake and Rachel, I will ask my fiance to enquire at county office

  12. good going cali USICS! guys i hav a mixup situation in hand. we had asked for our visa papers to be sent to Indian embassy by the NVC, however they sent it to Singapore seeing my last resident address. Though I am willing to take uo my interview there, I am not sure whether is its an advantage or disadvantage. I am also not sure of what documents will I need. Actually I am in India right now for a vacation and managed to collect police cleaance from passport office, medical examination (sealed though I do not know if they approve in Singapore), TD and MMR vaccinations (vericilla I had chickenpox before). I intend to colect the actual police certificate from the Singapore Indian embassy.

Any of you hav any suggestions? comments?

  13. HI Guys,

Police clearance becoming big issue now,

As i mentioned on first post that i've got my police clearance from district police and now i am trying to get the PCC from passport office but i've changed my address in last one year( not the city nor the area only house in same phase),now the question is the PCC i will get from the passport office, will be having previous address(only house number changed).

    Now i have two options:

1.TO send this PCC to NVC

2.I need to change the address on passport first then get the PCC.

option 2 will take my 2 months and option 1 will take 1month.

If anybody had this kind of RFE please suggest

Hi PCC from passport office does not have address in it. so dont worry.

I havee a question. My fiance petition got approved but since im currenly studyin in singapore, NVC sent the package to singapore. I need to know which police clearances i require? i obtained pcc frm passport office in India. do i also require pcc frm district police office?

im sure that i will need one pcc from singapore. bt im not sure wht else i need, can smeone please help?

  14. Two weeks from now you will receive a notice from US Embassy Singapore that they receive your application from NVC then they will sent u packets those DS Forms that you have to filled up. Regarding the Police clearance, yes u do need a police clearance from your home country, India and Police Clearance in Singapore. As soon as you receive the Packet 3 with Visa Instruction on it you may able to gather the documents u needed. Good luck!

    Thanks,

I obtained police certificate from passport office in India, stating there are no cases against me. is that enough? or should i get frm the police station itself?

i also took my medical lab tests in India as i was unaware that thy are gonna send it to singapore. can i use my results in singapore? wil the dctor accept if the seal isnt broken?

  15. Hi,

I am a Indian citizen studying in Singapore. My USC fiancee applied visa for me, we thought it would be sent to India since I am a citizen there. however since my last residing address was Singapore, NVC sent it to Singapore. Jus today my fiancee got the news from NVC, since I have come for a temporary visit to India, I have even taken my medical exam forseeing time shortage, however i have my lab reports with me.

I want to knw what packages does Singapore consulate issue? do they issue k3? and what documents do i need? the singapore consulate website doesnt give any info regarding this. I want to know what police certificates i will need? do i need one from india? and do i nneed vaccinations? kindly help me out

    Thanks

    Raghu

  16. Hi guys,

I wanna knw a couple of things, my 1st question though I had asked already I wanna clarify again: My fiance (USC) who filed the petition is still doin her under graduation and working part time. hence she cant show any tax returns or assets. so her dad is co-sponsoring me. so is it possible to shw zero support frm my fiance and cover the whole 125% by the co-sponser? what should I tell the interviewer in tht case?

secondly I am about to complete my masters degree (Wireless Network Reseach) from singapore and i wanna find a job asap in CA after i land. what is the shortest way to get an employment authorization?(some say if at JFK they readily provide temporary EAD for 3 months).

third, i wanna knw if i can start applying for jobs right away or shud wait for EAD which will take sme 6months frm now if things go smoothly.

fourth, i am currently in india and i want take vaccinations n medicals now itself. if the interview is 2months frm now, do the medical cert still hold good?

    Thanks

    Raghu
