  1. I would be surprised if several people on a website like this had not had this sort of experience, I asked that guy if he, after condescendingly telling me that he understands anything and everything going into my choices and that I just don't want to be separated from spouse etc, had. I wouldn't talk down to a stranger like that without a pretty good reason but that's just me. Anyone who wouldn't miss a year with their spouse or fiancé over a few months with their infant who needs them is a cruel, selfish person. Anyone who compares those things is a cruel person, there is nothing in the adult relationship world that compares to the needs of a child for their parents, but I'm not here to discuss these social positions I asked a question, you and others have answered, that guy did not but instead interjected in my thread here solely to talk down to me etc. So again thanks for the advice and yes I will be gathering this stuff in advance. Luckily my mother owns a house with plenty of space for us to go initially rent-free so hopefully that will help.
  2. So you have had to leave behind an infant of yours, or maybe a 2 year old or so, for 6 months, a year, more?
  3. It's my decision coupled with the policies. And it wouldn't be separation from my spouse, which would be no big deal, but we share a 1 year old who it would be cruel to subject to half a year or, if I moved right when sending in the application, close to two years of separation from one or the other parent. If you don't have young children I suppose you wouldn't understand. Thanks for the advice.
  4. The Kafke-esque nature of this process continues. My mother has offered to co-sponsor so I think it's all good, but the irony that I actually need to move back to America to work yada yada
  5. Oof that's rough, thanks for the info. Was it that nothing happened and then all of a sudden there was an action that your petition was approved?
  6. I just filled in some of my timeline. One thing I don't know how to find out is if/when/where my application may have been forwarded. It says Nebraska on the receipt document but I don't know where to look for any information after that for if it was moved to another processing center.
  7. Yes I have been filing taxes, I am just about to file my expat taxes for last year. I know I can use a joint sponsor, I was just commenting on the catch 22 of the issue. If you are living abroad, by definition, you don't have a job to go to in the US *right now* It's just funny because I have a long history of employment well above the support level needed and have a terminal degree, a doctorate, in STEM, but I suppose I would be in the same category as a passport bro who backpacked around Europe or Asia for a couple of years and wants to now return with his new foreign wife so he can find a job in America and settle down, but any reasonable view of my situation vs that hypothetical situation would clearly put the as different potentials to support a family in the US.
  8. Now that you mention it, the affidavit of support section seems like a bit of a catch 22 to me. I'm living abroad and haven't had income in America for about 3 years. I guess I need to read closely about what is acceptable but I don't see why my income abroad would have anything to do with supporting my family in America since obviously I have to give up that income when I move. It would make more sense for me to be able to provide my IRS transcript from the last year I was living and working in the states, which was 2022, or a combination of that with my Swedish income information. Either way, it's a catch 22 because the main reason I want to move back is because I can much more easily advance my career in America, and I need to move in order to work there, but if I need to have American income in order to get this visa... It's not a huge issue, I can provide assets etc, it just seems like a request that doesn't make sense for someone that is seeking a visa for their spouse specifically so that they can work again in their home country (America), that entire category of person would obviously not have income in America when applying for the visa to move. It just goes around in a circle
  9. Ah ok so it is generic, that is good to know thanks.
  10. Ah yes of course, thanks. I didn't mean to say I would rely on AI alone but rather use it as a tool to try to get some of my things ready ahead of time, and then adjust or add/change things as the real requests are presented to me when I get to NVC.
  11. I don't know exactly what the things are they will ask for at the NVC stage, is it the same for everyone or is it personalized case by case? Would it be worth it do you think to look up, maybe ask AI or something, what is likely to be asked for and prepare it ahead of time and hope it matches what they do in fact ask for?
  12. I was looking at quoted times recently for people filing when I did and it seemed more like 1.5 years from start to finish, but of course however long it's going to be is what it is and no estimates or comparisons can change that.
  13. Good lord that's still a very long time. It will then be nearly two full years of waiting. Well anyway, I'll tell you what, I bet you a chunk of completely worthless internet clout that we do in fact see an attempt from this administration to pass an amnesty bill in the lame duck period. If I'm wrong, you get the worthless clout, and vice versa for me! I hope so. I'll post the waiting time here when I am contacted next. It's been approximately a week so far.
  14. That's correct, my I-130 application is still at the first stage, whatever that is called. If I have to wait another 14 months to hear back about this I might as well bring her over illegally and wait for Trump's lame duck amnesty bill...
  15. I thought I clicked submit after replying to this but I don't see my response now. Anyway, yes it was the English version, I had included mine and my daughter's and labeled mine as marriage certificate. Thanks for the well wishes.
  16. Yes I sent them the "personbevis" from the Swedish tax office as it says to do there. I included the one for me, my wife, and our daughter, and they all include each other as relatives and the same address and so forth. I had originally sent them those documents but I didn't explain what they were so I'm assuming the person looking at the application didn't know that those are the Swedish equivalent of marriage and birth certificates. I'm hoping it goes quickly because everything matches up, there isn't any "funny business" where we don't have the same address or we have different last names or anything like that. She took my name, our daughter has my name, we all three have the same legal Swedish address. I included also this other thing called vigselbevis that means marriage certificate but it isn't a legal document, it's more of a sentimental thing. But it does say the names of the persons being married, the date, the venue etc.
  17. It was in four parts. Two parts were essentially the same, marriage certificate and marriage bona fides. That is slightly tricky because Sweden doesn't have marriage certificates as such and I explained that and included everything that the Swedish authorities provide for this purpose. Another thing asked was the last 3 pages of the I-130f, which I didn't include because they were blank. I didn't use a preparer or interpreter. So I simply uploaded those blank pages. The last thing was proof of divorce for (my) previous marriage, which I uploaded. I thought I had included some of this stuff in the original application, physical paper, but it was so long ago that it's hazy at this point. Anyway I included several things for marriage bona fides, including a consular report of birth abroad for our daughter that I obtained after having sent the visa application. Perhaps because it's so many things this would take time, or not? Frankly, I think anyone looking at what I uploaded would see pretty quickly that it's all legitimate. I have been living with my wife abroad for 2 years, we have a daughter, etc. But maybe that's not how USCIS sees it.
  18. Hi, I couldn't find this searching so I'll just ask if there is any known information or best guess on what the USCIS response time is after you fulfill a request for evidence on an I-130. Is it a case of someone is processing your application and will be notified you sent something right away, or did your application just get put back at the bottom of some pile?
  19. Maybe that's because I'm an American citizen, a real one not some johnny come lately who was naturalized five minutes ago, and so is my daughter. Both of my parents were also born in America, and both of my grandfathers served in WWII. One of them died. So yeah, actually I think I should be entitled to more than some random Green Card marriage scheme, or someone who just became a citizen yesterday. And if the American people were ever given a vote on immigration policy for real, instead of being told something will change but the policy continues to be looking the other way at illegals and frauds like Indian H1B scammers, then literally no one (no real American) would have an issue with me bringing my Swedish wife.
  20. Can I simply cancel the I-130 and do the DCF instead? I will likely be receiving a work contract early next year, so I could use that. A work contract with a start date is required, right? Or can you file DCF for some other reason?
  21. I grew up in a farming rural community in New Jersey and lived for a time in Florida and Netflix, the makers of farses like the Cleopatra "documentary" where she is played by Adele James, is not going to educate me with their infotainment to disbelieve what I saw and can read statistics of on my own.
  22. Well, after seeing how certain immigrants who don't bother with such paperwork can stay, I don't think the expectation was that unrealistic. I guess the people that try to follow the rules always lose out.
  23. I don't really have the option to stay for...over a year? because my job ended here and I have been having trouble finding another one. For economic reasons, we have to move. It was just last week that we sent in the I-130. I find this all confusing, she would be deported if we all just moved to the states now? They would sent away the mother and wife of a US citizen?
  24. We're in Sweden. So did I waste my time and money with the I-130? I can't leave her here and move ahead, I'm not going to leave my wife and daughter and I'm not going to bring my daughter without my wife.
