  1. Hello:

I have had a greencard based on a marriage since Dec 2008. I am making 3 years of becoming a permanent resident this December.I plan to apply for naturalization early Jan 2012. I have left the country for about 1 month.

Now, my employer requires me to travel to Canada for a couple of months starting next month? I will have to travel weekly (fly to Canada on Mondays and back to US on Fridays). Would this be an issue with naturalization process? On one hand, I thought I am allowed to travel out of the US for 6 months over the course of 5 years. But on the other hand, I was told that that 6 months has to be in the context where I am out of the country for 6 months consecutively.

    Would someone please help clarify?

    Thanks,

  3. My interview was on November 13, 2008. Yeah, more than a month ago. We were only asked yes or no and basic questions. Officer Gallagher took my I-94 at the start of the interview and asked for copies of our joint assets (which unfortunately, we only had 2) :(

He only told us that he needed to go through our paperwork thoroughly and it would all be in writing from then on. Yesterday, we received an appointment letter stating: "Please come to the shown below at the time and place in connection with an official matter." The letter says to bring passport, D.L. and all documentation relating to my case. Bring all originals and blah blah blah....

My husband and I are clueless. We don't know what's going on. So I am starting this thread to ask for any input from you guys. If there's anyone who has gone through this, your response will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much. Merry Christmas!

You start me make me worried now. I went to the interview 12/11/2008. The officer told me a similar thing that everything looks good, and the rest is just going through all the paperwork. We're going to know the result by mail or if they need more evidence they would ask from us....

Then we have gotten 3 touches since then.. Both I and my husband are not at our place in Chicago after the interview. We're wondering about the case esp we will not be able to check our mails till we get back home after a new year.

I am crossing my fingers and hope everything goes well. Please update with us after this appointment.

  5. Hi guys,

    I had an interview today.

I am pretty sure you are approved already, my interview was like that also and I was told that the officer will recomend approval, but somebody else approves the case, not the person that interviewed you. My online status changed 2 days after my interview and it said that they ordered production of my card on my interview day! Let us know when you get the good news! :)

I am a bit nervous.. Got 2 more touches after the interview...

  7. Hi guys,

I had an interview today. The interview went fine. The officer was nice and friendly. The interview went for about 25 minutes. At the end, she made copies of supporting documents that we brought; and said everything looks good. She didn't say whether the case is approved or not. She simply said the rest is just going through paperwork. She said they will let us know in a mail. We will get a mail if they need anything from us. She told us to expect a letter withing a few weeks.

I wonder if anyone has the same kind of experience?? I am not sure if i should still be worried since most of the couples know the result immediately at the interview..

They should be able to point you in the right direction...Good luck!

    Lilli,

I had a Thai consullate in chicago certify a translated copy of my birth certificate last time. They required an original copy in order to do that. Let me see what else i can do

  9. Has he tried calling whoever he needs to contact to get a new bc?

I know that for me, it only takes a week to receive it directly from France.

You have a week ahead, it should be doable. Shouldn't the passport be enough?

    Hi Lilli,

I am going to try and do all I can. But still not sure I will ever get that. I am sure it is doable if his family helps. The problem is he does not have a good relationship wtih his family. So, we think nobody is going help us..

    Dear all,

I have a question. I was going through the list of documents stated in the interview letter. One of the list is Birth Certificate of my husband(citizen by naturalization). He is afraid he has somehow lost the original copy in our native language. I wonder if this is going to create a problem at interview. In fact, I don't think this was required when I filed I-130 and I-485.

Would anyone please share your experience about this issue?

  11. Witty Marmelade, I was told by a lawyer that we need my husband's BC for the interview, even though he is a citizen by naturalization... You still have a month until your interview, maybe a friend or a family member from his homecountry can send you his original copy of BC?

    Hi Ella,

I was thinking about this as well. However, ironically his family in Thailand might not be helpful. That is why i am worried if this is going to cause me a problem. I wonder what if he can show his passport and his naturalization certificate instead..

Witty Marmelade, ask for specific questions at your infopass. And if things aren't moving, please get your congressman involved!

    Good luck!

    Hi Lilly,

Silly question, but i honestly don't know about how people do this. I have seen people asking help from their congressmen. I really have no idea how they do that.

How would I get a congressman involved then?? I do not know whom i should contact or where to start... Any suggestions?

Ah, that is funny! There is another Seattleite scheduled on that day for 8am! :)

    Hi Lili,

I am from Chicago as well as have the same timeline as yours. I called INS last week after the processing time is now at March 01. As expected. the customer rep said that i have to wait 30 more days as my case is still considered within normal processing time(It's been over 7 months now).. So, I went ahead and made an infopass appointment on Oct 03. Will see if i will get an interview letter before that...

I really want this to be over just like many of us here...

  21. Thank you Witty Marmalade (love your name!) and G&A.

    I appreciate your kindness(es). :D

Drove through the border from Ontario to Michigan yesterday with my travel papers, aka AP, and it went well.

    Slow, but well.

Before I got to the booth (checkpoint), I was nervous as H, E, double hockey sticks!

    Phew.

    :star:

    SpiritAlight,

It's good to hear that things went well along the way on your trip. At least, you can take your mind off this AOS stuff for a moment.. I am trying not to peak at this board so that I won't think about it that much. But, I really can't help....

Hopefully, I will get an interview notice real soon. I have a few important things to decide upon this AOS time line.. Unfortunately, i can only keep praying for all the good things to happen ...

As for me I will just go off and cry uncontrollably now...freakin' CSC.

    No touches, nada.

    snif snif

    :crying:

    Hi SpiritAlight...

Please do not freak out ... you are not alone.. my case has not been touched since biometrics. I was trying to wait patiently..

I know how hard it is to see other people get approved when there is no progress on your case.. I only hope that the processes all go well..

I notice K1 people are processed faster in general. Plus, your case is sitting at CSC. I think it will move shortly. Cheers!
