  1. Good morning everyone...

Daa and I are in Bangkok, only a few more days until our interview.

We need to do one more thing- get our translations authenticated. Where do we go? Everyone is giving us conflicting info...I thought it was Immigration in Bangkok?

    Thanks for the help

I have now discovered, and the hard way of course, what is to be done about legalizing documents for the interview.

ALL documents in Thai, and their respective english translations, MUST be legalized at the Ministry of Foreign Relations, at 123 Chaeng Wattana Rd in Lak Si.

It is 400B per document, and takes two days. Same day service is 800B for one document. Examples of the documents that must be legalized are- marriage certificate, divorce decree, birth certificates, ID cards, house registration, etc.

If you need to do 16 documents (8 Thai docs, and their english translations), like Daa and I, this can get costly.

This information was given to me by the US Embassy in Bangkok, after harrassing them by telephone for about 30 minutes.

I hope that others can find this info, as I was unable to, and have had to pay for 20+ taxi rides to nowhere and will now have to wait 1-2 more weeks for Daa's visa to be issued. Learning the hard way is a pain, and this website is lacking.

WARNING- no one will help you in Thailand, not even the government. If you have any doubt or question, do not ask anyone on this website, nor anyone at a translation service, or ANYWHERE in Thailand. Call the embassy- 02 205 4000 ext 4049. If you are polite, someone will help you. Whomever I talked to saved me and Daa $230, bless her soul. Everywhere else in Thailand has only taken our money, with a Thailand smile.

Bless those on this website that try to help, but loving-kindness with ignorance hurts more than it helps. If you do not know, do not speak. Very old saying, very easy to understand, and very difficult to practice.

This is not a jaded account, but a truthful one. Even Daa has expressed her concern, confusion, and frustration as to why NOBODY, not even her government, was willing to help us, but only take our money. I have lived in Thailand for 5 of the last 6 years and I thought I had learned my lesson. And as I point the finger, I have not disregarded my own folly, and I write this in hope that others learn from my mistakes.

Good luck to all those on this windy, slippery road.

And on the same note, because the immigration process is so diverse and different for every country, I think maybe someone with some computer savy should start a website for the K1 visa process in Thailand only. That's my 50 satang.

  4. Hello everyone, thanks for all of the awesome help so far.

Another question- should we wait for the embassy to send us the packet 3, or should we go for it now? I received an email and snail mail from the NVC saying they sent our petition to the embassy on May 21st.

I downloaded the forms, filled 'em out and printed...then off to Thailand for my sweetie's signature-

so, we are ready to go!

But I have read somewhere that we should wait.

    Any thoughts?

  5. I want to share an example email I found on this website, as a means of checking the status with the NVC. After I received my NOA2 on May 9th, I called the NVC phone number {(603) 334 0700} on May 14, 16, and 19th to check my status and they told me they have yet to receive my petition.

    HOWEVER-

I sent in this email on May 13th, got a response on May 20th telling me that the NVC has processed my petition and sent it off to the corresponding embassy, AND gave me my case number! Thank you again! (I forgot where on this website I found this example email!)

  7. Hello Thai-peeps...

I am still unsure about the DS230 part I...

After looking on the VJ guide to the US embassy in Bangkok, for items sent back to the consulate, it mentions the DS230 part I, but says to send it unsigned.

Yet, elsewhere I have seen posts that say YES, you do sign page 2 of the DS230 to send back to the consulate.

    Which one is it?

    thank you

  8. Anyone, please...

Is this all we send to the Consulate as far as packet 3 is concerned?

    # signed checklist

    # DS-230 Part I (unsigned)

    # two frontal photographs and

    # a photocopy of a passport photo page

    Khap khun khap

That is correct. Make sure it is marked to the attention of the IV Unit.

    Best of luck!

    John

A few more questions ( I have confused myself)-

There are 4 pages to the DS230. Which ones do I send back?

There are two places to sign the DS230- on page 2 and 4...sign either of these?

    Thank you again

The first two pages are "Part 1"; the last two pages are "Part 2". You only return "Part 1" now. "Part 2" will be taken to the embassy the day of your fiancee's interview along with all the other forms.

Your fiancee should sign on page 2 before sending "Part 1" to the embassy. Do not sign on page 4 until the interview (it says it has to be signed when advised by the consulate officer).

    John

Thank you!! That clears it all up

  10. Anyone, please...

I have waited long enough for my NOA2 to find this site and learn that I will be able to do this on my own.

From here on out, I am on my own, along with all my wonderful "consultants" here on VJ.

What, if anything, should I ask the lawyer to send to me? Besides the NOA1 and NOA2...shouldn't he be sending me a copy of the entire package we sent to the USCIS?

    Thanks y'all

  11. Sawadee khap tuk khon!

My NOA2 should be coming sometime this millennium, and I want to prepare...particularly about packet 3.

Which forms are signed and returned to the embassy? Only the DS230 and checklist, right?

Good luck to you all, and thank you for the responses...I will have many questions coming!!

    Thank you,

    Jason
