  1. Hi everyone, I wanted to share our situation and see if anyone has insight into how long these things are currently taking at the U.S. Embassy in Bogotá.

My husband (a Venezuelan national) had his immigrant visa interview on April 8, 2025. I went with him and while there, the officer requested one additional document, which we submitted the same day via the CAS. The embassy later confirmed receipt and said the case was in the queue for review. We followed up twice and eventually got a response saying they’re experiencing delays and that the final response may take “several additional weeks.”

What’s making us especially anxious is that they kept his passport after the interview. Since he’s in Colombia on a tourist entry, he’s only allowed to stay until June 20. He can’t return to Venezuela (there’s no U.S. embassy there) and obviously can’t travel to the U.S. without his passport—so he’s completely stuck until this gets resolved.

Has anyone recently gone through something similar at Bogotá and can share how long it took after document submission to get a final decision or the passport back? Thank you all in advance!!!

@Sol and Yone I am still waiting to get my welcome letter from the NVC. Have you reached out to the congress person?

@Dreamer25 Sorry for the delay, I did reach out but never heard a response back. I am not sure if it made a difference because I also used the ask Emma feature several times. My case ended up getting reopened and I received a second approval that same day which was about a few weeks ago like three and that seemed to do the trick. I then got my NVC letter 24 hours after.

Thank you so much, miha25 and OldUser. I just contacted a live agent through Emma, and she said the USCIS no longer has the jurisdiction of my case - please contact the NVC
I hope this means something good!

Hi Dreamer25, have you heard anything yet? We seem to be in the same situation as my approval was also the 12th and it has been silence from NVC. I tried contacting and heard the same as you. I am considering maybe trying to go through my congress person but I am not sure if I should.
