  1. For all of you waiting on the edge of their seats, we went today for an infopass and after the long drive and wait they unclimactically told us to go back to the airport and talk to the duty officer. The man did say it was very important and she won't get a green card without it.

After another wait the official looking lady took our envelope from us and said it would be mailed to the USCIS.

So that's all. If this happens to anyone, save yourself an Infopass and just go back to the airport.

This was Dulles washington DC, quite a big airport!

    OK, now to go

    Thanks everyone,

    Ankur

  2. I have the same problem. My husband entered in Los Angeles on Dec 10, 2008 and had his envelope in his carry-on bag. All he said to the officer was "immigration". He didn't show them the envelope and they didn't ask for it. So now it is sitting in our closet. Where do we call to make this appointment to turn it in?

    An "infopass" appointment

I will go on thursday. My fiance entered on 13 Dec, we got married and now I need to file her AOS within the next few weeks. It contains some papers and some medical documents which they are suppose to forward. Then when you do AOS they combine the medical documents with your application. I am hoping it has the medical things properly so I don't have to mess with the I-693 and finding a cheap civil surgeon.

  3. Do your 2008 taxes and send it in as latest tax year. Then if you don't have enough, don't waste time. Just get a cosponsor! It is allowed, but your parents will of course have to be cooperative to show all their income and sign as official cosponsors. When getting my K-1 i used a cosponsor but now hopefully i don't need one, because my last year's income should be enough.

Regarding her work status. Did you get a SSN? You can get a SSN showing just your K-1 status. That is enough.

Maybe you can file for work permit separately from the AOS?

  4. Once you receive the EAD or green card you can go apply for the SSN.

Guys, you can get your SSN before your EAD or green card. We went 2 months after entry and just went to the Social Security Office and the man promptly filled in our stuff into the computer and gave us a receipt telling us we will get the SSN after 2 weeks. He didn't ask a single question. Just saw it was a K-1 visa and did his thing. I do not know what kind of visa you have, but with a K-1 you are allowed to get a SSN. I had even printed out some homeland security memorandum which is suggested in the forums here, but it was not necessary to show him anything.

  5. YOU NEED TO MAKE AN INFOPASS APPOINTMENT AT YOUR LOCAL USCIS OFFICE NOW or CALL THE CBP AT YOUR NEAREST INTERNATION AIRPORT AND ADVISE THEM THAT YOUR WIFE DID NOT HAND IN THE SEALED ENVELOPE WHEN SHE ENTERED.

You must sort this out and DO NOT OPEN the envelope. It contains your wife's immigration file and is needed by USCIS to continue the immigration process.

Thank you for this wise and obvious advice! I should have done that a month ago! Thanks for this! I just made the appointment and will get this cleared up.

  6. I am about to file AOS and little stuck on the medical requirements. We have the photocopied DS-3025 from the medical examination. So I need to take it to a civil surgeon and hopefully they will make the i-693a?

At point of entry they did not open the sealed brown envelope! They just let her in with her I-94 on the visa. So now I have this sealed brown envelope which was supposed to be opened at the POE.

Do they usually open this up and give you something useful from it like medical papers? I was reading that they are supposed to take some medical papers out and forward them on.

Should I send this in with my I-485 or should I keep it and show it to my grandchildren? I suppose I can open it now since there is no point in keeping it sealed, or will they see that some papers were not entered at the POE and still need this signed?

Do I still need to do the I693 or is there something like that in the brown envelope? If I send the brown envelope still sealed with my AOS i-485 packet will I get extra credit?

    thanks,

    Agd

  7. Very sorry, I didn't post after I did get a response. I wrote to VFS & embassy & called VFS. Actually my question was itself not correct. The system is in India you can submit to the VFS of any city, not just the city where you will take the interview. They have VFS offices in many cities.

So the system is to go to the office. It is better to go in person because there may be some extra forms or something. My fiance actually didn't do a police clearance that was required, she had only 1 instead of 2. She is getting now and will take with her to the interview.

For the person in Singapore it can still work out if you send everything to someone.

  8. i think polish notary will do hence youre not a u.s. citizen. I think the embassy just want to know if you have ways and means how to support your fiancee. I hope this helps.

Well i am a us citizen, just living in poland currently, does anyone else think a polish notary will be ok for the interview, surely hope so.

I know for India they specifically say only USA consulates are authorized. I suggest going to Citizen's services and getting it done properly.

  9. We need to submit documents before our interview 7-10 business days prior to interview. Does the visa applicant have to go to VFS personally or may someone submit on her behalf? I know they will only take in person and not by courier, but can anyone do it and collect receipts, etc?

Seems like this would be a common question, but I really searched all over the forums for the answer. I have sent an email to the consulate and to VFS with the question and maybe they will respond. They actually did respond to an earlier query about case status (I was really surprised about that!).

Thanks for any ideas. I will write if I get a definitive answer as well.

    Thanks,

    Ankur
