  1. Hi guys, had my interview today....and I am approved!!! Yay!!! I wrote about the experience in the consultae review section, but am so delighted that it is all over one year from application...now it's over, it doesn't feel like it's been forever, but i think that's just being delirious, lol!

Good luck to everyone, trust me, the angst will feel like nothing once it's all over, so hang in there - it will come to an end.

  2. We had ours on Tuesday. I was the same way...a nervous wreck. My hands were shaking so badly. I think the hardest part was just handing over the paperwork without dropping it all because I was so shaky. It really was nothing at all. They were all very friendly and although we were in there for quite awhile (just under three hours) it was mostly just waiting for our number to be called. There seemed to be only one window open for immigrant visas so it went a bit slow.

Good luck and you will be fine.

Thanks...what papers did they ask from you, out of interest? Because they already have all of them from the NVC, and I have a copy of everything (just in case)... just wondering tho...

I haven't got there yet, but I wanted to wish you loads and loads of luck....

Let us know how you get on.

    Porsha

Aww, thanks - good luck to you!

  3. Can someone explain to me what this SMS courier thing is?

Dense,I know, but first time I heard of it, I just thought they send it recorded delivery?

  4. I have my interview this Thursday, & I wasn't nervous...but I am now!!! It's the last step, and the holy grail (so to speak) is so near, and if it's taken away...help!!! No matter how much I look at everything I have, I still think, 'what if...' I'm glad I've already had my medical, or else they'd have declared me insane!

    Pearls of wisdom anyone?

  5. Hi all

I had my medical at Bentick Mansions today. The X-ray guy is lovely, he really puts you at ease.

I had to have the HPV; the nurse told me all about it, and she was equally nice. That was first, after the form filling. I only waited about 15 minutes.

Then they move you to a smaller waiting room, where I waited for 3/4 minutes...

I had a female doctor, and she was really nice;she admired my wedding ring, said it was gorgeous (thanks to my hubby!)

She asked me some q's, but I have a clean bill of health,so was pretty straightforward. She did the checks which was fine and she didn't make me feel uncomfortable, even though I naturally was a tad, just because, but best to go to your happy place for that 3-4 minutes and it's all over! Took some blood, height and weight measurements, then waiting room.

The cheery xray guy did his bit, and told me all about some of the strange people he's met who are going to LA - he said I seemed quite normal, and hoped I would fit in. I also got to see my chest x-rays, which was sightly eery, but it looked like what I remember in biology, so i'm ok with it :)

Its the same as everyone else, so i won't go into much detail, and it only took less than 1 hour.

It all cost me £300, which was slightly painful, but whatever, I just want it done with! Roll on interview next thursday.

Just wanted to say I'm so glad I read all your posts before I went; it helped with the orientation and made me more at ease...wonder what those who have not discovered VJ do to calm themselves? Maybe the pub across the road has something to do with it :)

  6. I'm in there on May 27th also!!! 9am!!!

Cool! Mine is at 8.50 am! Sorry for the delayed reply, have been loaded with work at work!

    Congratulations and good luck

me too! June 5th London. Have you a date for a medical as well?

Yup! May 27th...congrats to you too! What time is your interview?

8a.m. did you just call for the medical appointment? I was hoping to do it just a few days before and stay with a friend so I could do it all in one trip, haven't called yet.

Yeh, just call, they scheduleyou in quite quickly, i think you should just go ahead and get it doe... Mine is tomorrow, and even though I've never had any medical probs, I'm quite nervous!

    Congratulations and good luck

My interview is at exactly the same time as yours! 8am on 5th June....good luck!!!

  7. As Poiteen says it will not be a problem if you have to travel now on the visa. Sometimes people cannot travel with in the 6 months and going over to the States and activating the visa and coming out is a way over that problem. Others have come over but had to return to the UK to complete winding up their affairs over there. While that is not the reason you are traveling it will have the same effect.

In fact it will have the advantage that by the time you do come over permanently in August your Green Card and SSN should have been issued and waiting for you.

Thanks guys! I have my medical tommorrow, so wish me luck! :hehe:

  8. Hi guys

I know this may seem like a really dumb question, but I need to ask...

OK, so I know that you don't get the visa the same day (thanks everyone!) but I was wondering, do they give you your passport back on the day, or do you have to give it to them, and they return it with your visa?

It's just that I have to go on business the weekend after my interview to the US, but not to where I will be living when I do move there, and it's just for 5 days.

If they do give me my passport back and my visa is approved, will I be ok to go to the US without the visa and just go as a business visitor? I'm moving there in August when I finish stuff up with work.

Thanks in advance for your help.

  9. I have a question, If you fly down to London for your interview and you have to leave your Passport with the embasy, then how do you fly back home? I belive you need photo ID to board your flight and if you dont have a photo Drivers Licence what do you use?

You'd have to wait - you can fly back to Ireland or the Channel Islands with just a drivers license, as it's within the Common Travel Area, but anywhere else, you need a passport.

If you dont have a photo drivers license, it's ok, just safe to have something 'just in case' - but as you won't pass through immigration if you're flying from the Common Travel Area (that is within the UK, Ireland and the Channel Islands) its ok.

You won't be able to board without a passport to anywhere else though, Carriers Liability law and all that.

  10. Quick question...the visa...considering all goes well and its approved, do they give it that very day? Some ppl say yeh, some wait a couple of days...can anyone shed some light?

  11. I'm so excited - I got an interview date!!! I called up the DOS on Thursday, who said that they think I have an interview date, transferred me to NVC and guess what...? June 5th!!!! Yay!

It was pretty quick actually - my case was complete by 21st April and an interview was set by the 28th apparantly - cant wait for an interview, how sad is that? lol!

  12. Hello all

I was wondering...is it possible to change your interview date to an earlier one? I have been assigned an interview on June 5th, but I would like to get it done with sooner. Is this possible? Who do I call if it is?

I'm still waiting for the official letter, as I called the NVC who informed me that a date had been assigned, and they will be sending a letter out shortly.

    Thanks

  13. I had my medical in london on monday and now wednesday i have a message to call them im so worried they found something wrong with me. why else would they ring me. please reply if you have any ideas.

Im sure if it was a problem medicaly, they wouldnt leave a message on your phone. Probebly something less for you to worry about. Try not to worry too much.

I know someone who got a call back, and had a similar message...all it was was that they couldn;t figure out some of his handwriting on the form when it came to processing, and wanted clarification.

So dont worry, whatever it is will be sorted. When is your interview?

  14. since bbpatel and I are getting CR-1 and not going through AOS, i don't know who would check up on our HPV. It doesn't appear to play any part in removal of conditions.

Through a very nice nurse in my local NHS Clinic, I got the HPV on the NHS, therefore only paying the prescription fee. She told me that the next dose was in 2 months time, and the last one was 4 months after that. I may well get the dose at 2 months, but I still don't know about the final one. I would be in the states by then.

Hmmm....the AOS guidelines vertainly dont mention anything about the full course....but even if we have to pay for it once we get there, it's hardly gona cost more than it does here on the private.

excellent, i have yet to meet a helpful nurse, but maybe its just me ;) I have a helpful Dr though, so will ask her if the nurse isn't helpful.

    Thanks!

  15. I think you do have to finish getting them though, once you're in the US or whenever time for the next one comes up. I'm not sure about that, don't know if they check up on it and everything, but when it comes time to AOS and all that stuff they might.

In which case you might wanna try to get as many as you can while in your country if you have insurance and don't think you will for awhile in the US. Though we might have HPV shots for free at our health clinics here now.

Really? For free? I would get the other two courses straight away, but they have to be taken 3 months between each other or something, which would elongate my reuniting with my husband...so I'll wait to get the rest done if and when I have to...

But if you can, can you send me the link/doc where you heard it will be free?

    Thanks!

  16. If all they need is a document to prove that the US Embassy require this police certificate from you, then would you be bale to just print out the instructions fromt he website? That way, they will see that you do need it fo ra reason, and you won;t have to fake a letter fromt he NVC...alhtough it doesn;t sound like it could do much harm, you are effectively trying to fake a letter on behalf of the US Government...so I dont know if it is worth the risk...i totally understand your dilemma, the process is frustrating enough without the extra unnecessary bueaucracy.

  17. Hi guys

Just a quick question about the HPV jab that we have to have; I understand that there are three courses of it, and these are spaced out within a few months of each other, so do they expect you to have had all three courses? Or if you've had the inital HPV jab, then that is enough to pass the medical?

Advice appreciated as always! (And my case is finally complete as of 21st April!!!)

  18. I love heinz beans and I didn't think I would find any that tasted the same.... BUT I bought some Bush beans... They were a certain flavour.. I can't think what now! But they really didn't taste all that different! They could have been the original ones...

And yes... We do like talking about food :D Not as much as duvets though

World Market!!! They have them...and not sure if you guys have this up there in CO, but in CA we have local grocery stores that have things mainly from India, but for some bizarre (but o-so-excellent) reason stock Heinz Baked Beans too...so if you have any East Indian's in your neighbourhood, ask them where they get their fresh fruit/veg/provisions, and you will probably find them there, cheaper than World Market.

  19. Hey guys!

I was wondering how long any IR1/CR-1 filers had to wait to hear from NVC about an interview? Lots of ppl have said different things.

I applied for I-130 in California in June 07 and have sent my DS230 forms off...anyone who can advise me how long I'm gona be awaiting now? It's soooo long....cant take it much longer :(

  20. Hi guys

I'm new to VJ, and am still unclear about the whole process.

So I have sent the DS230 andthe docs requested to the NVC - what will happen now? Am I just waiting for an interview now? How long do ppl wait in London?

I filed I-130 in June 2007 at the California Service Centre, and have come thus far! Please tell me how long I have left...!

    Thanks

If they have all the evidence they need, you should get approved within a month. Check automated line at NVC and message will first say "case complete" and when your appointment is set at the embassy it will say "Case forwarded to embassy".

Excellent - thanks! Ummm...what number do I have to call?

I got it - thanks ! Is there anyone in London who can tell me how long their's took?

  23. Hi, I just wanted some advice....

I received an email from NVC, after having asked them for an update on my case, and got this reply...

The NVC has received documentation for this case. As soon as this file has been reviewed, notification will be sent.

The National Visa Center no longer has your file. Any inquiries regarding documents or forms requested by the US Embassy/Consulate must be directed to the office that is requesting the information.

I have already sent the DS-230 forms and the docs to go with it, so I nerstand that ths is what is being reviewed....but

I'm confused...don't the NVC review the case, and if it is still being reviewed, how come it has left the NVC???

    Anyone clarify for me pls?
