  1. what is the arrival status? what visa? answers may depend on that information

ETA: I see it was K-1... You can apply from day one to day 76 after your arrival on a K-1. If outside that window then you need to wait until EAD/GC

name change can affect the length of time because immigration status needs to be verified

Yep, it's a K-1 - we applied for the SSN after we got married well within the date range(s)... So now we're wondering of course whether the name change put a wrench into the gears... (or a spanner into the works as my british bride would say!)

  2. We're a bit confused as to which needs to be done first, the SSN or the adjustment of status form and all of it's 'trimmings'. We understand what needs to be accomplished in order to receive a SSN and have already put the works into motion (approximately 4 weeks ago now). We followed these instructions to the letter...

Now, here we are 4 weeks later and no card. We visited the local office a few days ago and they said the the info we presented to the office was at the office of homeland security and the SSN office was waiting for DHS. There WAS a name change when the marriage was conducted, so we're wondering if THAT is the reason everything seems to be in a holding pattern?

Any and all comments would be greatly appreciated!

    thank you!

  3. I posted this in the embassy forum, but haven't had much help.

I sent packet 3 to London about 3 weeks ago, and have called the DOS twice since. Today, the lady said that my packet had been opened and "enrolled" yesterday. She said that she "believes they have already scheduled this month's applications for interviews next month, so I will have to wait until they start scheduling in October, for an Interview in November"....!!!

Every UK timeline I have looked at, people have been scheduled interviews within about 5-6 weeks of sending back packet 3. Why has this not happened to them? Do you think she has given me wrong information? Do they really only schedule interviews once a month, and the others have to wait?

I really hope I dont have to wait that long.. did anyone else have to?

We have a very similar timeline to you. And we had the very same worries as you state here. I called DOS only a couple of days or so ago, and they indicated to me (at that time) that although Maxine's packet number 3 had been inspected and subsequently she would be approved for an interview, the DOS rep said it looked like October was booked up already and we could possibly get a November interview. Well that certainly wasn't the news I was hoping for. Maxine, the very next day, called the Embassy and spoke to a gentlemen who, shall we say, was less than helpful - and very negative. So then I called DOS again yesterday and when the rep told me that Maxine had a date for an interview in early October, I nearly fell out of my chair! Keep your hopes up, and yes - keep calling DOS! Good luck.

  4. Kind of confused as to what actually happens once USCIS approves the case. Is there any more info/money/whatever needed from the sponsor at this point? Or is it simply 'processed' and sent to the American Embassy in London (in our case). I've seen mention of AOS bill payments and the like, and not too sure where or when this comes into play???

For K1, you don't do anything at NVC.

NVC processing i.e. AOS fee payments and documents summisions is for CR1/IR1 folks.

For K1, your file doesn't stay at NVC for long, normally it gets forwarded to the consulate within a few days.

Thanks, I think I was coming to that conclusion at around 3:00AM this morning. I couldn't sleep and thought I would poke around the visajourney forums and saw where all this stuff (supposedly) had to happen through the NVC, but wasn't aware that didn't apply to K-1s until after I looked at it a million and one times. I was in 'la la' land there for awhile!

  6. Okay April filers, how long after a touch have some people been seeing an approval? We received our first 'real' touch (after the a couple of ones in the May time frame) yesterday - August 6th. I can only assume since they have approved some Aprils already, they are working our case! Now, I wonder if I should call them to see if it's been approved, or wait for the update from case pending to approved, or keep checking my mail box???

  7.  Congrats to you both!!!

Don't forget to update your timeline so you can be added to those approved in May!

Thanks everyone! It has been such a journey thus far, so many nights crying and feeling lonely without the love of my life and now we can see the end in sight. We have alot of work ahead of us but we are praying it will go smooth and fast and we can be married this summer. Our original wedding date was end of June so we are thinking backing it up to the day we met, August 6th.

I hope those still waiting get notice soon!!

yes PLEASE update your time line, it helps the rest of us with our 'projected forecasts' and believe me I've been looking EVERY day. :)

  8. we are VERY new to this, given the fact we just got engaged. We were VERY fortunate to find this site and have learned QUITE allot. Getting ready to fire off our I-129F and then play the waiting game. Question though, while we're trying to get an idea of how long the wait is for the interview, we've noticed that the BIGGEST time spent is the I-129F spending most of it's time in California before being sent off from there to it's next point - would I be correct in assuming that the time lines are an 'average' of ALL the I-129Fs? In other words, if we were fortunate enough to put together a very good package (one that wouldn't need to be returned for further information) - would that drastically cut down on the waiting time? I'm getting the impression that some of these have an extraordinarily long waiting time because of the 'back and forth' that would occur if indeed the package was sent back for further info.

    thanks!
