  1. Thanks a lot everyone!

This is such a happy time in our lives!!! I hope you all who are still waiting may experience this very soon!

Bora bora, now the brazilian embassy does not allow people to pick up the visa there. Unfortunatelly. If I could, I would wait in Rio, pick up the visa and then travel straight from Rio to USA... I think they changed the policy in the end of 2007.

  2. Hey guys! I'm here to let you know that my visa was approved yesterday at the Rio de Janeiro Embassy. During the interview they asked the basic things such as date of marriage and how we met. They also asked few things about my husband's info in the Affidavit of support and about his family like if he has brothers or sisters and if I know his brother. They asked to see our pictures and they asked what are our plans for the future.

I am the applicant and I was there by myself because my husband, the petitioner, couldn't take the days off to come to Brasil. :(

But everything is fine now and they will send my passport with the visa to my house in a few days. (That's how they do in Brazil)

I'm sooooo happy and thankful to God because I know He was there with me all the time!:D:dance::D

Also, big thanks to everybody in VJ who helped me in this process. Now I'm getting ready for POE!

  3. Hello!

Today I called the consulate in Rio de Janeiro to do the switch (k-3 to Cr-1) and I got bad news. They are not able to do the switch because, according to the person I spoke on the phone, the date I have for the k-3 interview is only K types of visa (whatever!). So I cannot do a CR-1 instead. I'll have to cancel the K-3 interview and wait for my CR-1 date. It's not so far away, I know. But still it is a little disappointing. :(

The papers were delivered at the consulate this morning by DHL, and when I mentioned it to the person on the phone she said: "This is a huge building with 10 floors. You cannot tell if your papers were really received by us!" Ok, she is right, but still, I was not speaking in a rude tone of voice, demanding anything... Anyway, she explained to me why the switch cannot be done and how I can cancel the K-3 interview. I also received an email as a response to the one I've sent saying the same thing: The switch cannot be made.

I spent the whole weekend preparing myself to this kind of answer...

Well, now I have an interview date an only a catastrophe will change that. April 9, here we go!

  4. I received a response from Mumbai Consulate. Apparently, they cancelled the K3 interview and kept the CR1 for the CR1 date. The flip was completely unsuccessful. The lesson learned: DO NOT E-MAIL THEM ASKING THEM FOR A FLIP. If your K3 and CR1 happens to be at the Consulate and K3 interview is scheduled before the CR1, simply show up for K3 interview and the chances of you getting CR1 are much higher.

This is not the first time I got smacked for being nice...anyways, two weeks is no biggie. :)

I hope I haven't screwed up but I did exactly what you're telling people not to do. Waithatter even suggested I should wait until the papers arrived at the consulate, but today I couldn't help it. I e-mailed them (i haven't read this thread before). But I still have hopes that things are going to work out fine for me because the papers will arrive there tomorrow or friday.

I didn't know you had this problem in the end of your journey. At least now it's over for you! :) Last year was a long year for most of us!

  5. Waithatter, the weird thing is that when I track with today's date (EXP 11 MAR 2009A), it only shows one package going to Juarez, Mexico, which is not my embassy. I was getting nervous!!! When I track using EXP 10 MAR 2009A, like you suggested, it shows a package going to Rio de Janeiro, which IS my embassy and they say it was picked up in NH today! I got in doubt because when I called the operator said they sent it today. So I thought I had to use today's date on the reference.

Well, as long as my papers arrive in Brazil this week... hehe!

Ah! Joe&Noi, thanks for sharing this info. I've seen posts about switching the visa type of the interview, but I haven't heard of people doing that in the Embassy in Rio de Janeiro. Maybe I screwed up, but in the e-mail I sent them today I was kind of "playing the fool" asking them what happens to the K-3 once they get the CR1 documents... Let's see their answer. If they decide not to switch, I'll have to wait 2 more weeks, but after waiting 1 year, I sure will survive. ;)

  6. Thanks, Waithatter! I found the package and it was picked up today at 2:36pm! Wow! Things are happening really fast now! Thank God!

Did you confirm with NVC operator to see if they forward your file to consulate?

ooops!! I didn't... I was guessing that they would only send me the appointment letter once they have sent the papers. I WAS WRONG! They probably set my interview date after March 10th papers had left NVC already. After you mentioned it I called them (5 minutes ago) and I found out that the papers were actually sent today. So that was not my package... :( At least I know it will be there tomorrow or friday because it usually takes only 1 or 2 days. So it is not that bad. If the consulate is willing to do the switch, it won't change anything because we're is still ahead of time.

  7. Hey! I got the interview date!!!! APRIL 9!!

I'm so happy!! I called NVC but they were busy so I decided to check my e-mail before I tried to call again and there it was! The precious e-mail with the interview date!!!

Tomorrow I'm going to try to switch my K3 interview for the CR1. I have never heard of any brazilian here on VJ who did that, but since people from other countries did it, I'm going to try too!

OMG! I'm so happy to finally see the end of this coming!!! :energy:

Congrats! You might want to wait until your cr1 file reaches consulate before you ask them to switch your k3 into cr1 because most consulate cancels k3 in favor of cr1, but that's just my sugesstion. I am personally planning to wait untill my cr1 reache consulate.

    Good luck!

The interview letter indicates that the case has been forwarded. I guess we start tracking :)

Yes, the interview letter says that the case has been forwarded to the consulate. What I did today was to e-mail the consulate asking what happens to the K-3 interview once they receive the CR1 documents (just to see if they have any specific policy such as canceling the K-3). I also asked if they can switch the visa type for the interview on the 24th if they receive the CR1 documents before the 24th. Well, I was going to wait a little, but they won't see this e-mail until tomorrow, I guess. Last time it took them 2 days to reply my e-mail. But they do reply.

How can we track the documents going to the consulate via DHL?

Anyway, I'll keep you all informed if they accepted to do the switch or not.

That's right! It's better to wait a couple days. I'm so anxious I can barely think clearly! LOL

  10. Hello everyone!

My case has been completed at NVC on 03/05 and I'm hoping for an April interview. How long after they complete it we can get an interview date? I'm anxious about it because I have a k-3 appointment for the 24th but I want the CR1, so if they send the documents to the embassy now, I may be able to switch the visa type, I hope.

    Finally we're getting there!!!

since your case is already complete you don't you contact the embassy so that they can make the switch from a k3 to a cr1? I am not sure how it really works, but i have heard of many cases where they contact their embassy and request the switch. They then contact NVC and request your files.

mmm... I haven't thought about contacting the consulate so they could request my files. But I'm not sure the embassy in Brazil will request the papers... But it is worth to try.

Anyway, I will also try to call NVC again and see if they have set an interview date already. KingAbu had his/her case complete on the 5th too, so I should have an interview date. By the way, congratulations to those who can already plan their trips!!!!

  11. I'm sorry to hear that. This is so sad. I think we all are scared of this happening to us. Long distance relationships are very complicated. We wait one year to be together and so many things have changed by the time we get there...

But I agree with the people who said your peace of mind is more important than the greencard. I know it is hard because you have already left all things back in your country. But at least there you have family and people to support you emotionally. It is a good idea to look for a church while you're in California, not only catholic, but there are other churches such as baptist that have specific services and missions with immigrants. They very often have people to help you with the legal part and the emotional part too.

    God bless you!

  12. Hey guys!

On February 20 NVC sent us and RFE because I made a silly mistake on question 24 of DS-230. I still don't know how I did that because I reviewed it so many times. But I somehow didn't see that. Anyway, Thank God it is something simple, I only have to send another DS-230 part I, which I already did.

Now I'm nervous because my k-3 interview is scheduled for March 24 and I don't know if I should wait one more week to see if NVC will complete my case and send it to the consulate or if I should postpone the K-3 interview already. What do you guys think? Do I wait a little more before I call the consulate to postpone it?

    Thanks.

    Monica

    Monica,

If you already responded to your RFE then your case should be completed earlier next week and I think you are in good shape to get april date. I suggest wait till end of 2nd week of march and if you dont get april interview date then go ahead and reschedule your k3 interview date.

Thanks! I'll do that. I'll wait a few weeks and see what happens to my CR1. Me and my husband are also positive about having our case completed soon.

  14. Congratulations Waithatter!

Now I have a question for anyone... The consulate in Rio de Janeiro sent me the appointment letter for the K-3. The interview will be on March 24th, and since my CR1 case is coming to an end at the NVC, I have high hopes that I'll be able to stick to that date. My question is: For the k-3 they ask me to bring to the interview all the documents I have already sent to NVC such as police certificates. Since I'm not going to take the K-3, do I have to worry about getting police certificates again? If my CR1 case does not arrive in Rio on time, I'm going to postpone the K-3 interview, but I'm really going for a CR1 interview so they should have all those documents, right? I don't know if it varies from consulate to consulate... Well, any ideas anyone?

    Thanks

  15. NVC will send your k-3 papers to the consulate anyway. And the consulate will set an appointment for your interview when they get it. So if you want to get the CR1 instead, just don't worry about the K-3 for a while and focus on the CR1 route explained on the shortcuts. The petitioner will receive NVC papers for the CR1 at home and you can just follow the instructions and finish the process in NVC in about a month (using Ling Che's shortcuts, of course). However, if the K-3 interview date is coming and you don't have your CR1 finished yet, call the consulate and postpone the K-3 interview because if you don't show up it would mess up your whole process. So, once the CR1 process is finished at NVC, they will send the papers to the consulate and set a date for the CR1 interview. Then, you can call the consulate and try to change the K-3 interview for the CR1 inteview. This will probably save you some time.

  16. I sent the email from two different accounts. So hopefully the accept the Choice of Agent by the end of the week.

    Hi!

It took 4 days for NVC to reply my e-mail with the Choice of Agent (I sent it on Monday afternoon and they replied it on Friday afternoon). So it is usually fast. They replied it even before my husband received the AOS payment instructions letter on his mailbox, which happened the next day (saturday). So when he got our Invoice ID number on the instructions package, the IV bill had already become payable online. This way he paid both bills on the same day. This morning both bills (AOS and IV) display PAID on their website. So this afternoon or tomorrow morning my husband will send both packages. They should receive them on friday. I'm wishing for a case complete before the 20th.
