  1. Ok guys...try and stay with me here.

I'm a Texan who has 3 kids and I've just accepted a job in Edmonton, AB. My 6 year old and my 2 year old are from my most recent marriage. My 9 year old is from my first marriage. How hard is it for me to get the immigration process started for my kids? They all have US passports so there was written consent at one point for them to LEAVE the US. Can any one tell me the extent of the paperwork process or items needed for a single mom to immigrate TO Canada? My employer in Canada is taking care of most of MY paperwork. I'm responsible for the kids though. HELP!

    Thanks,

    Nikki

  2. Ok, you guys have been very helpful so far with info and sharing your experiences with waiting, waiting, and more waiting to get to the US. My fiances company in Edmonton offered ME a position and a very good salary there. What do I do now? I know this is all about Visas and trying to get to the US but do any of ya'll know what it would actually take for me to move to Canada? It can't be as difficult as a Canadian moving to the US .....right? Any insight would be helpful.

    thanks,

    Nikki

  3. ok all you Canadians.... I need a little help understanding the whole K1 visa process. What is the timeline? From the time we apply (if we get married as soon as possible) to the time he's able to work here in the states? We're trying to decide whether this process will be better or if the K3 process would be better. He needs to work as quickly as possible after getting here. Which process allows him to do that?

    Thanks!

    Nikki

  4. Hi ya'll. I was told I should jump into the Canadian forum and get some answers. I live in Texas and my wonderful fiance lives in Edmonton, AB. We want to get married and live here but we're not sure the quickest way that will allow him to work here almost immediately. Does it matter which country we wed in? Is it quicker for me to fly up there and marry him in Edmonton then file the paperwork when i get back home to Texas? Or, is it quicker to get the fiance visa, marry him here, then wait for the greencard? Is there a visa that will allow him to live here immediately after marriage? How long til he could work? Wow....so overwhelmed right now...i'm sure you guys have felt this way too right?

    Thanks,

    Nicole

  5. Mornin ya'll! Need some help with this one. My finace is in Alberta, Canada....I'm in Texas. We want to get married and live here in Texas. If we want to get married up in Alberta, then what's needed on my part? Is it just like the US where you'd need a special visa or can i just hop a plane, get married, come back home and start the paperwork process? Any of ya'll have a clue on this one? In all fairness, I would be coming back to Texas without a shadow of a doubt. I just want to go up there and get married.

I'll take anything ya'll can give me at this point!

    Thanks guys!

  6. Thanks guys! Wow, I never knew it was so hard. You see movies and hear about people immigrating here through marriage but you never think about what they had to go through...wow. It just looks so much easier on TV. I do have a question on the CR-1. Can he come to Texas and visit during the 1 year or so we'll be waiting or his green card? Thanks again for ya'll help. I'll break the news to him today. He's not gonna like it but I guess we join all the others in our same boat huh? This place looks like its good to pass time. I mean, seems like ya'll help each other out in here. That's nice.

  7. Hi, I'm Nicole. Very new to this site and to the whole visa thing. I live in TEXAS and my fiance lives in Edmonton, Alberta. I'm just looking for some information and advice on those of you who've been through this. We want to get married right away, and live here in TEXAS. Can he not just come to visit me on a visitor visa and us get married? If he did this then how long til he could work here?

I see there are several types of visas but which one best fits us? He will HAVE to work as soon as he gets here so i'm trying to find a visa that will allow him to come to Texas anytime while waiting and allow him to work as soon as he gets here. ???? HELP!!!
