Oh, I already got a SS card that notes it can't be used for employment. If I don't need to be employed till my Green Card gets approved eventually, does this matter? Also, I was told at the DMV that since I have a Canadian driver's license I only need to show that license along with my USCIS NOA and proof of US residency to get a US license.

I'm finding sparse answers online. My main goal is to have the I-131 approved as soon as possible as my marriage-based I-485 is pending. I do not need to work but could, so I have the option of submitting the I-765 or not. I will submit it if it gets a chance of my I-131 being approved faster, but I won't if that's unlikely and it just wastes precious money. Multiple sources online say that when the I-131 and I-765 are submitted together with the I-485, the I-131 gets approved much faster on average because sometimes it's approved as a combo card with the I-765. Alternatively, if only the I-131 and I-485 are submitted, the I-131 will take longer on average with no chance of a combo card. I read on one lawyer website: "as of 2025, USCIS has largely returned to its pre-pandemic practices, and combo cards are once again being issued in many cases – but currently only for employment-based adjustment of status applicants" but haven't been able to corroborate that info on any other site. If that's true, then I'll skip paying to submit the I-765 since that means there's no chance of a faster combo card with my family-based application. But if that's false and there is a chance of a faster combo card for me, I want to take that chance. Anyone have info on whether combo cards are currently issued sometimes for family-based applicants who submit the I-485, I-765 and I-131 together?

In Part 2, item 3.a. of the i-485 form I am filling out, the instructions are very clear to "select ONLY ONE" of the categories under which I am applying. I entered the US on my K1 visa as the fiancé of the i-129F petitioner. We then married within the 90 days. So, I don't know if the form expects me to select my ONE category of the i-485 to be "Spouse of a U.S. Citizen" or "Person admitted to the United States as a fiancé(e) or child of a fiancé(e) of a U.S. citizen (K-1/K-2 Nonimmigrant)". Both are true and both the fact that I was admitted as a K1 nonimmigrant but am now a spouse of a US citizen are important to my application. I'd be especially interested to hear from people who filed their i-485 as K1 entrants, got married, and then picked one of these and had a successfully accepted i-485. Thank you

As a K1 entrant who is adjusting status, who had a medical exam in my home country and deferred the vaccination portion, I understand that I can mark 4.A. on form I-693. But, for that remaining vaccination portion, I am going to be submitting a waiver for religious reasons. Do I still need to make an appointment with a civil surgeon just for them to put in their name, info, signature, and check the box that says, "Applicant will request an individual waiver based on religious or moral convictions"?

Thank you. But isn't this the same as what I was admitted to the US for, which is noted a few questions above regarding the I-94, thus not requiring me to put anything in the "What is your current immigration status (if it has changed since the date of your last arrival)?" section?

Let's say my name before marriage was "Jane Maiden" and then when we got married, I changed it to "Jane Smith" at the town office where we got our marriage license. Because I haven't gotten around to changing it on all my documents yet, my passport, expired K1 visa, I-94, new SSN and such say "Jane Maiden." Only my official marriage license says "Jane Smith." As I've been filling out my I-485, I've been writing both "Jane Maiden" and "Jane Smith" where it makes sense, depending on if the section is referring to the pre- or post-marriage/current period. Is this correct? Has the marriage license changed my legal name? The reason I worry enough to ask is that my A Number is still "Jane Maiden," so what if they have trouble looking my file up as they go through my documents? Thank you

I am filling out my form I-485 after getting married in the US on my K1 visa. I got married within 90 days, but I am filling the I-485 past the 90 days. So, my K1 is expired, but I am married. In the current edition of the I-485, question 12 of Part 1 asks about my I-94. I filled this out, noting admittance was with my Immigration Status of K1. Then, question 14 asks, "What is your current immigration status (if it has changed since the date of your last arrival)?". Should I leave it blank, or write "Spouse of American"? If "Spouse of American," do I list this new status expiry as "duration of stay"? Thank you!

I asked again because in my previous post, which was a general inquiry while this post is a specific ask, had only one answer and it still remains different from multiple other sources. For example, even 180 days (which you said) is slightly different than 6 months (which the answer in my previous post said). TDLR: Can you share the expiry date on your K1 Visa and how it relates to your timeline? Hello. I've seen conflicting information on this from multiple supposedly-reputable sources, and while my fiancé and I have spend a lot of time trying to read, research, call, etc., we cannot seem to get a firm answer on this. So, I thought I'd go to the folks who've already gotten their K1 Visas and ask. Please let me know: A. My K1 expiry date is 180 days from the date my I-129F was approved B. My K1 expiry date is 180 days from the date I passed my interview C. My K1 expiry date is something else (What?) This will be so, so helpful for our wedding planning. Thank you!
