  1. I have type 1 diabetes as well and did when my fiance petitioned for me in 2003. It has never been an issue anywhere in the process, neither at the immigration medical, at the K-1 visa interview or in any of the process since. I was just approved for my citizenship this week. Diabetes is considered a Class B medical condition - they record it but there isn't any concern about it. You won't be turned down for a visa because of it, but you may be asked about health insurance coverage for when you get to the US.

Of more concern than any possible immigration issue with diabetes is the health insurance coverage for you when you arrive. Insulin and test strips and medications cost a lot - more than they cost for me back home in Canada - and even with health insurance there is a co-pay (my co-pay now equals what I paid out of pocket for my diabetes supplies back in Canada). Bring along proof that UK provides insurance coverage for your diabetes because many insurers here have a pre-existing clause which means you are not covered for any existing illnesses when you start your coverage with them unless you can prove you had insurance coverage immediately before their coverage starts. If you need to you might want to purchase some supplemental insurance to cover you until your spouse can add you to her insurance plan through work.

Be prepared to bring enough supplies to last you through several months. It took me nearly 4 months before I was able to get in to see an endocrinologist - 3 months to see a family physician - because those were the first appointments available. A lot will depend on where you are moving but it is best to be prepared. Bring along copies of your prescriptions as well- they won't work here but it will give your health care provider information about continuing your treatment. Also see if your current doctor will give you a copy of your medical records to bring with you so you can give your new health care provider copies.

Hope this helps. Good luck - and don't worry.

Thanks for the replies. Ill be ok on supplies i have 2 years worth of insulin, needles, test strips, i asked my doctor for 500 blood strips last week and took my prescription to the pharmacy and the staff asked me oddly "Are you SURE you want 500 strips?" as for my insulin theyve always given me more than i use so i have a nice little stock, not bothered about it being on a plane for 12hrs either as i found out recently thanks to wiki that the insulin i use has been debated that it could be better kept in room temperature rather than a fridge so atleast it doesnt go off :) Thanks again for your help.

  2. Anyone know of anyone who has had the exam for spouse visa to america and is diabetic.

I have my med exam due on aug 21st and my interview at the london embassy on 11th sep.

I was to understand this is purely for contagious diseases, so why does 1 of the 8 questions involve do i have diabetes, which should in no way affect my visa application, yet i cant find anyone whos diabetic ever applying for a visa to america so im on edge the fact ive funded the entire visa fees out of my own pocket without knowing if this is a reason i can be turnd down for a visa :/

  3. Well phoned up the embassy, they said my wife needs indefinite leave to remain to file DCF, but she is on a spouse visa so i dont really understand it. I didnt think mother in laws were allowed to file for the spouse visa, but the embassy doesnt seem to be bothered about that. also phoned the home office and they asked me to write a letter and post it to UK Border Agency requesting the letter stating i am authorised to move and work in america. so ill see how i get on, thanks for everyones help

  4. No she has to pay cash in person, i think it might be to do with my credit card being stolen last month, however the documents were sent to her as she is the one that is going to be signing an afadavit of support . I will phone up the embassy tomorrow when they open to ask. Im mainly curious why i need permission to move abroad, or where i obtain a letter

im sure they have there reasons for sending those 2 requests there. but MIL said she is happy to pay the $355 for my visa anyway. Her house is where we intend to stay

  5. ok me and my wife sent off our visa app to the london office because its faster, we havnt heard anything but my mother in law phoned up last week from america and told us they want 2 things from me, proof of my uk residence so ill send my util bill and drivers license, BUT they also asked us to get a letter from home office stating i have permission to move and work abroad, i never heard of this letter before and i looked on HO website but nothing about this on there, any help please

You'll want to read the DCF guide here. It sounds like perhaps you may not qualify to file directly with the Consulate. What they are requesting is evidence you are eligible to do so. If not, you're going to wish you had filed correctly instead of incorrectly.

I dont think its a problem or anything i just wondered who i contact at the home office for this letter. i dont see why i need permission from the government to move

Which of you is the US Citizen. If "you" are the UK Citizen, this could have to do with your work. Do you work for the government? Does the US Citizen have legal resident status in the UK?

Please try to avoid pronouns as much as possible or at least make it clear who is who.

Wife - U.S Citizen on a 2 year spouse visa in the UK.

Im the UK citizen and i only work in a supermarket, not for government or anything, my wifes visa expires Jul 2009, so we want to move to USA asap. They put on the forms they sent to mother in law that they voided my credit card and want cash (my mother in law is going to pay the cash) but she just needs these 2 forms. I dont see why they sent the stuff to america without telling us

  7. ok me and my wife sent off our visa app to the london office because its faster, we havnt heard anything but my mother in law phoned up last week from america and told us they want 2 things from me, proof of my uk residence so ill send my util bill and drivers license, BUT they also asked us to get a letter from home office stating i have permission to move and work abroad, i never heard of this letter before and i looked on HO website but nothing about this on there, any help please

  8. It's really fairly straightforward. If she's only been in the UK, it will be quite easy indeed. Things that she can use:

    * Does she have a US bank account? US credit card? If these still have a US address on them, bring statements to the interview. If she closed her US account, she can (and probably should) open a new one with a US address. This can be her parents' address.

    * Has she kept her US driving licence up to date? This too will have a US address.

    * Is she still registered to vote in the US? A voter registration card can help.

    * Do you have anywhere to live lined up yet over there? This can be with relatives or not. If you're staying with her parents, have them write a letter saying you'll be staying there.

    * Does she still get any mail delivered to her over there? Something recent could help.

    * Quite a few people have said they brought quotations for moving house with them -- just contact a mover and ask them to email you a quote.

    * Does she have a job lined up there yet? Is she looking? If so, bring any correspondence.

This is usually not a biggie in London. I lived in the UK for 12 years, never intended to move back to the US, and had NO licence, NO US bank account or credit card, NO job, etc. I opened an account, had my parents forward me mail I had received from the Dept of Social Security recently, and brought a letter I had written to the Embassy outlining all the steps we were taking to abandon residency in the UK and resume it in America. If I could do it after 12 years, I'm sure your wife can after 9 months!

    Good luck!

Hi thanks for quick reply. Well she only has her drivers license, but our sponsor is going to ber her parents in the USA, so i was gonna kinda say to the embassy that she was on staying over here temporarily as they cant exactly say shes a permanant resident of UK if she has a 2 year limit on her visa. some people say domocile doesnt matter if joint sponsors like her parents are signing an afadavit. Thanks

  9. That's my understanding, course if you only need one of them to sponsor you, they they would tick d. the only joint sponsor.

but i'm still waiting to be approved, so maybe someone else will jump in and confirm.

You know - these are all the exact same questions I had when I was filling out the forms, we really need to add this info to the guides or the wiki or something.

    xxx Poit

All the USCIS checklists and instructions dont clearly relate to everything just overall parts, on the i30 checklist it sounds like they dont need my passport just my wifes and entry clearance stamp to the UK, ill photocopy mine and send it anyway just incase, they really should make a thread on here clearly, thanks again for your help poit, by the way by LA do you mean your going to Lousiana as thats state initials or Los Angeles?

  10. Your wife will have to fill out an I-864, as she is your sponsor. Your wifes parents will also have to fill out an I-864 as Joint Sponsors. If one of their earnings would cover you on the poverty guidelines, then you only need one of them to be your joint sponsor.

this is some info on the form:

    http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/men...00045f3d6a1RCRD

    and here's the form itself:

    http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/I-864.pdf

By the way, here's where you'll find where the London USCIS is with processing the I-130's:

    http://london.usembassy.gov/dhs/uscis/i130filing.html

They've been averaging about 10 weeks since I've been watching last July, so unless you've got loads of time to kill, I'd file your I-130 package, and get that stuff in order after.

Thanks alot all your advice is very helpful :) will get the I-130 sent off tuesday morning, just gotta get some photos done, thanks alot

  11. Hello, welcome to VJ :star:

London has it's own checklist, and it's own particular way of doing things. you need to Print out this checklist and follow it's instructions:

    http://london.usembassy.gov/dhs/forms/i130..._for_spouse.pdf

You'll notice that London only want the first page of the G-325A and NOT all 4 pages.

The consensus seems to be that on the bottom of the G-325A you tick 'other' and put on the line provided 'I-130 petition'. We did that and have been approved.

You do put your wife and your daughter on Q.17 of the I-130 as it only asks about your family, not about who's immigrating. The word 'dependant' does not appear. I hope your not confusing this with the DS-230. That form is for later in the process.

You won't need to worry about tax returns until your I-130 is approved. So don't stress about that now. When you are going for your interview in a few months, you can just bring a letter explaining that your wife didn't file for 2007 because she wasn't required to as she didn't earn enough to warrant filing. Since your not relying on her income for the financial sponsorship, it doesn't matter.

    best of luck

    xx Poit

Thanks thats a great load of worry off my mind.

Only other thing im curious about is if anyone knows what forms my parent in laws needs to file and what paperwork they will need so i have it ready for when i file I-130 and i get a package back i will have everything ready for stage 2, cheers again for your answer

  12. Hi all, my wife is a US citizen and i am British, we are going to apply for my visa in london.

Me and my wife have filled out I-130 and G325A (4 pages each lol).

1st question, on the bottom of the each page 3 tick boxes about what the form is for i.e permanat res, naturlisation or other, i know this sounds stupid but am i applying for permanant straight away or do i type in spouse visa etc.

2nd question, as my wife has lived in the UK since july 07 she hasnt done a tax return, will the last 3 she done in america be acceptable as to be honest she quit working in dec 06, and started again in aug 07.

3rd and final. therefore my wifes parents are also sponsoring us, i am aware that she still has to sign the main sponsor stuff etc, does this mean my mother and father inlaws have to file a g325a also.

So confused about all this i know the consulate will want my wifes tax returns, but the only part i know of so far is sending off our g325a and i-130.

PS. We have a baby girl 5 months old, does she get put on our forms if she is already being filed as a US citizen, because i was under the impression that question meant MY dependants as if i had kids before i married my wife. But the baby is both of ours. and we have another one on the way oct 1st 08.

PSS sorry about all the questions!!!

Oh me and my wife married 5th jan 2007, and she didnt work from jan 07 - aug 07, so when the consulate ask for my wifes tax returns will 04,05,06 be ok as she is still working in uk (aug 07-present but hasnt done any tax returns as she didnt know she had to) cheers everyone
