  1. Hey Ya'll,

So I am finally sending off the DS-230 package today. How much longer after the case is complete at the NVC will I have to wait to get an interview? Do they send the interview notice to the both of us? Or will we receive notice via email? Is my process going way too quickly? Kinda scared by that. I have been calling NVC daily, but they are taking forever to look at the I-864 packet and they have had it now for almost a week...maybe I am too excited. And for those who did receive the interview letter in Kingston, Jamaica, how long did u have to wait? How reliable is the postal service there and if u don't get it, what do u do next? Thanx for any info. I have gone thru different threads but I got a headache trying to find the specific answers that I need, so if anyone can answer the questions for me, I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanx in advance.

hey...we waited about 2.5 months after our case was completed before NVC informed us that we'd been scheduled for an interview. look through other yardies' timelines to get a feel for how long the process should take.

if u don't get the interview letter, then the NVC will email it 1 week prior to the interview date. you need the letter for the medical exam though, so if it doesn't come before then, call and ask for a supervisor at the NVC and see if they'll have mercy on you and email it to you in time for the medical.

    hope this helps.

  4. Congrats Melissa that is great news :dancing: Sounds like it was a breeze!

Please let us know as soon as you hear anything about the Visa issue 3 days to 10 weeks WOW. I am anxious to hear about this because I planned on waiting for the visa with my husband so we can return to the US together.

    Has anyone heard from Javes'girl?

all of you guys are the BEST!! we were approved on monday! thank the Lord! i just got back last night so sorry for the delayed post.

we were #134 at the interview. we were asked like 5 questions (when we met, how many times have i visited, where did we get married, etc.). i had our scrapbook/photo album and all sorts of phone records, but the guy didn't ask to see any of it. jave was really nervous (he won't admit it but he was) but everything went very, very smoothly! jave just called the DHL center in mo-bay and they said that the the package is already there for him to pick up. that was pretty fast. he won't be coming home for another 6 weeks though since we're having our vow renewal in jamaica on our 1 year anniversary.

WARNING: do not bring a camera, your phone, lotion, umbrella, ipod, or any other electronics. i happened to have ALL of these items in my purse because i was traveling. LOL! i was so pissed at first because the security guards told me that they couldn't hold my belongings and that i should leave my stuff on the ground outside but that i needed to move along because i was holding up the line! i asked the security guard shoving me out the door for a better suggestion of where i could keep my stuff and he suggested paymaster across the street, but they weren't open at that hour. so there are some folks outside who hold your stuff. i had to pay $500JD for their services. sigh. first, i made sure that it was a legit hustle. i made sure to get my holder's real name and i checked his phone number out before leaving my stuff with him. i told him no disrespect, but i had to be sure he was legit. so don't make my same mistake and just leave all of these items at home or in your car!!!

    QUESTIONS:

    1) ok...so the guy said that we would get our original docs back at the port of entry. i am so confused about how this works. does he mean that the service center where i filed will route the docs to me? or does he mean that the docs will be forwarded to customs/border patrol? someone plz explain how the process works.

    2) when i sent in the DS230, i checked the box requesting a SS card. however, how long does this take? i called the local SS office and they advised that it takes about 3 weeks following the receipt of the visa for the SS card to be sent to our US address. however, the lady didn't really seem to confident with her response so i'm wondering if it would be easier/faster to go to the local SS office?

i'd appreciate your feedback, guys! thanks so much!

Good Luck to Islanddream and Javesgirl who have interviews on Monday!!!!!

thanks dillon!!! i'll report the good news when i get back on wednesday! thanks for your thoughts and well wishes! they're much needed and much appreciated! ;)

  6. I went last week and the interviewer literally told me "Thank you for coming to the interview maam, you make it easier for us and easier on you"

but they did make us wait for like3 plus hours and i think it is because they were watching us..........

thanks shrewd. i went ahead and booked my ticket last night. hopefully he'll get approved!

You have to be more confident than that! He WILL get approved!!!!!!

you're absolutely right! we WILL get approved. thanks for reminding me to have faith. ;)

Just make sure you let us know about his approval!

i definitely will! i would send a text, but my text messaging abilities are so iffy in JA. sometimes my texts go through, sometimes they don't. i will let you all know as soon as i can though. have any of you ever had problems with the embassy not receiving the original docs from the NVC? just curious...

  9. please advise...should i go to the interview or not?! my concern is taking off from work - especially since i just returned from vacation. it seems that most people go to the interview to be with their spouses. however, it seems that most interviews end successfully even if the spouse can't make it. what do you guys recommend? should i just call in sick to work and shell out $450 to fly to jamaica for the interview, or do you think it would be ok to not go?

    HI Javesgirl,

I am in the same boat as you so I completely understand. :( They already look at you sideways at work when you say you need to take off and go to Jamaica. :o So I stopped telling them why I was taking off and just go. I am anxious to hear what the other VJers think as well because I have been debating this myself. I am supposed to be going next week for a long weekend but thinking I should maybe save the ticket and go for the interview instead. I jut don't know......

when is your interview philly? i would definitely reschedule your weekend trip if your interview is soon. after reading sus' reply and talking to some friends/fam about the matter, i'm leaning towards going. i still wanna see some more responses though.

  11. Congrats Pecky and Shrewd... I'm so excited for you too! I'm glad things were relatively painless for you!

I'm beginning to freak out- so any advice would be appreciated. McKoy's medical is Thursday. This Wednesday is a national holiday- Ash Wednesday- and everything will be closed. We still don't have McKoy's interview letter and I called NVC on Friday and they were very clear in telling me, regardless of the medical, they will not email the letter any earlier than one week before the interview (March 10). So basically, I need to have the letter faxed to McKoy by the end of the business day on Tuesday- so I need to have it waiting in my mailbox when I get home from work tomorrow...

So... what if it isn't there? Does anyone have any ideas on who I can contact or what I can do before the end of the day Tuesday?!

    Thanks!

Where is he going for the medical? Did you try talking to the doctor's office and ask them if he can do it without?

i spoke to lila (i believe she's a supervisor) at the NVC and she advised that she would make an exception and email it to me if i still hadn't received it before jave's medical. thankfully, the letter came friday and jave is at his medical now.

  12. Javes- I'm in the same boat- made a few calls today and was shocked to get the same reply. Seems utterly ridiculous. McKoy's medical is on Thursday- and still no letter... I'm getting anxious!

I'm not going to the interview- I travel for work and I'll be in China while he is at the interview... 13 hour time difference... wonderful! Are you going?

Ok...so my letter finally came in the mail yesterday when i checked it after work. Thank God! Yours should be arriving soon. What part of CA are you in? I'm in SoCal - Culver City.

Anyway, if you still don't have the letter after you check the mail on Monday, I would call the NVC and ask for a supervisor and explain the situation to see if they would be willing to make an exception and email the letter to you.

I'm debating as to whether I should go for the inteview. I just returned from Jamaica last week and I would love to pocket the additional airfare money that it's going to cost. Reading through other people's interview experiences, it seems as if I can get away with not going. But at the same time, I'd kick myself if I didn't go and my husband got rejected for the visa.

    Thoughts anyone?

By the way, safe travels to China!

  13. Congrats Mrs Buggy and Good luck Pecky and Shrewd!

Have any of the folks for March interviews gotten their interview letters yet? McKoy's medical is a week from tomorrow- and still no letter. I assume he won't get his in time, but I thought I'd get mine?!?!

my husband's medical is scheduled in mo-bay this upcoming monday, feb 23. i STILL haven't received the letter from the nvc either! i was told that it was mailed out late last week. i was in jamaica last week, so i had a bunch of junk mail when i came back home. i was surprised that the letter hadn't arrived because i usually get mail from the nvc within a few days. i even scoured through my trash to see if i accidentally threw it away. hopefully it will come today or saturday.

to be on the safe side, i called and spoke to an agent at the nvc and told her the situation. i asked if she could fax/email the letter to me so that we can avoid having to reschedule his medical and his interview. i spoke to about three different people and each one told me that it's nvc's policy to not email interview letters until 1 week prior to the interview date (what a dumb a$$ policy)! anyway, i called and spoke to one of the managers and she advised that if i still don't have the letter by monday morning, call her first thing and she'll email it to me. then, i'll just fax it to the medical center in mobay. so i feel a bit better, but i'd feel best if i had the letter!!! my belly is in knots. i can't wait til all of this is over.

meliss - are you going to the interview with your hubby?

  14. Hey all... anyone waiting on a march interview? I'm hoping and praying...

YES! i'm praying for a march interview date as well. our case was completed at the NVC in late november, so i'm keeping my fingers crossed for march. i'll be visiting my hubby in negril next week and i'd love to know NOW as to whether or not he'll be interviewed in march so that we can take care of his medical stuff while i'm there.

i'll keep you in my prayers, meliss!

  15. I don't think it matters hourly rate vs. salary because it all works out the same in the end. Don't you only need a co-sponsor if you make less than the required amount? If you are a contractor, can they list how long your current contract will last?

the problem is that you have to show three years' worth of tax returns (2007, 2006, 2005). i was in school for a large chunk of the past three years. and once i did graduate in 2005, it's not as if i got my "dream job" where i was making a substantial amount of money. i've only been earning a substantial income since the end of 2006.

i've been working my current contract position since jan. 2007 and my contract is probably going to end at the end of this year.

so, i'm just worried that because i've only had a solid work history since the end of 2006 and because i'm only a contractor, these factors may work against me and i may need a co-sponsor. based on all of this, what do u think?

  16. i posted this question in another thread but haven't received a response, so i thought that maybe i'll have better luck if i start a new thread.

anyway, i'm a contractor. i haven't received my i864 package yet, but i've started the process of getting my stuff together. i requested a letter from my recruiter yesterday, but she felt it necessary to include my hourly rate as opposed to my annual salary. also, when describing my position, she noted that i am a contractor. do you think mention of these two facts will hurt our case? i.e., do you think that i'll likely have to have a co-sponsor?

  17. some of you probably already know, but effective as of last week, NVC is no longer accepting online AOS fee payments. i received my AOS bill last week and i was trying to log in to make the payment today when i realized that i don't have the invoice identification number. so i called NVC to get the number, and the rep informed me that they're no longer giving that number out because there have been too many complications with online payments. so the only option is to mail in your payment. sigh.

  18. Cannot provide something that is still NOT accepted by IRS. 2008 is NOT over yet and therefore you cannot file your taxes for 2008, can you?

WHAT IF you just started working on Jan. 2008?? Would an employer letter suffice?

they state that u do not have to provide ur past 3 yrs returns..just the yr ur filing

Hate to say it; but you are going to need a sponsor.

thank you all for your feedback. i'll definitely get a letter from my employer. i must say that it feels good that i finally sent off my I-130 application yesterday and got the process started!

Javesgirl......did I send you over here from the other site? Are you one and the same?

    YES JG - it's me!!! ;)

  19. I just sent off my I-130 form today and I'm trying to plan ahead for the rest of the process. I see that I will need to send in an Affidavit of Support with tax returns for the past 3 years. In 2005 I was a student and unemployed although I'm pretty sure that I had sufficient income to show on my 2006 and 2007 returns. If I can't show any income for 2005, will I have to use a co-sponsor?

I'd appreciate any feedback I can get.

    Thanks!
