  2. I've also been told that I've got a bit of an accent now. I now say soda now without even thinking about it. It's funny I remember it sounding so strange to say when I first got here.

I just started school again to become an RN and absolutely loving it! :) Something that I probably wouldn't have realized if I was still in Toronto.

Definitely gained weight the first few years too! Have lost some but still working on it!

The difference in the grocery stores and stores in general has totally spoiled me. In terms of variety and sales/coupons, I just feel like my money goes much farther. I almost died when I went to a liquor store here and saw how cheap alcohol was! I don't know if it's just around here or everywhere in the US, but I'm still amazed to this day when I go to buy wine or beer! I'm always bringing back "american" sized liquor for my family. It's a bit of a joke with my family. Last time I visited my grandparents I brought them their favorite baileys in the biggest bottle I've ever seen and they were just dumbstruck! They couldn't believe that it actually came in a size that large. My husband and I don't usually keep much in terms of alcohol in the house but when we have guests or I'm bringing wine or something somewhere I find I buy much more than I would have if I were in Canada.

  3. Just added my NOA! :) They were super quick with it!

  4. I would agree with jundp. You're a U.S. citizen and it shouldn't matter if you were born here or naturalized. You should be able to file for AOS so long as your wife is here legally and you both meet the USCIS requirements for AOS.

Also if you give more info on your situation I'm sure someone here could give you a more detailed answer that is specific to your case.

    Good luck !! :)

  5. My honey laughed at me when I made a fried egg sandwich on toast with mustard...its the best!! Then at McDonalds I ordered the McChicken sauce for my fries....to die for! I'm not a big french fry eater...and not really a fan of fast food so I had to do something to make it taste better.

Totally weirds out my hubby also!! Honey mustard with fries is another good one, though I don't think that's super odd. Only to my husband :P

  6. Chips in sandwiches are awesome!! So funny to see this thread... I just had a chicken salad sandwich with bbq chips yesterday for lunch. My husband thinks the chips in the sandwich thing is really odd. Maybe it's not done in South Jersey?

I was unaware of the absence of all dressed chips (which would be the chips of choice) until I moved here :( I'll be bringing some home with me though once I get AP!! :D

  7. Hi there,

I just sent in my AOS package and they recieved it yesterday. Today I'm kicking myself because I did not send my husband's W2s along with the Affidavit of Support. I can't believe I missed them!!

I called USCIS and they said I could mail them in but that I risk it getting mixed up with another case or it getting lost and them sending an RFE anyways. Should I just wait to see if they request them? Or should I go ahead and send them another package? Has anyone else had any experience with this? Suggestions?

    Thanks! :)

  8. For me the train has always been the easiest border crossing. The last time I took the train was just over a year ago and they didn't have anything on board with them to check passports. It's nice that they come to you in your seat also. On my last trip via train the border officer looked at my passport and ticket and asked me what my plans were, who am I going to see, etc. and I told her I was going to see my fiance for a week and that was the end of it. She didn't ask me for ties to Canada or anything (though I was quite ready for her to!).

Flying was never too much of an issue for me either, but for some reason I always found them to be extremely intimidating. I took the bus once early on and it wasn't too bad (but I was probably lucky in my ignorance of all this stuff). Driving across was the worst. Almost every single time I was taken in to secondary for questioning. I was even turned away once. I had my whole folder of proof of ties to Canada and the officer barely looked at any of it. Very upsetting experience. Went back the next day though and that time the officer didn't input my passport info so I went straight through.

I think if you're looking for the least harassment though, the train is the way to go. But like everyone else is saying... you should be just fine any way you decide to go if you have all your proof of ties docs and so long as you're truthful.

    Good luck !!! :)

  9. Hi there,

Has anyone done the vaccination supplement form recently? I'm just wondering if I can send the vaccination record that I have from my initial medical along with my AOS forms. I've looked at the guides for AOS here, but the I-485 instructions itself does not specifically say this. Has anyone done this? Any RFEs?

Most of the civil surgeons I called wanted to do a full medical on me even though I do not need it. I remember from a while ago there were some posts about a civil surgeon in Texas that will do the forms via fax/mail and didn't charge a ridiculous amount of money. I do not remember the doctors name. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

    Thanks in advance! :)

  10. I also went to police headquarters in Toronto. Very quick and easy. They'll also have the form at the office or you can pick it up at your local division. I'm not sure but I think it was $25 or so and I paid a bit extra to get a second copy just in case. Mine came in the mail about a week or so later as well.

  11. I'm not Canadian, but the Jersey thread caught my eye... I live in Bellmawr, NJ in (Camden County) closer to (Gloucester County). I have seen flags on lawns in my town.

    Yay more South Jersey! :D

Where would the halfway point be for everyone to meet up? Did you have something in mind thetreble?

Hopefully it won't be long before I can drive. I'd love to be able to make it :)

  12. For the medical, I went to Dr. Seiden's before I got my interview letter and it wasn't a problem. They just wanted to see the most recent correspondance from the consulate (so I showed them the package from the consulate... just the cover letter is probably fine). I'm sure most wouldn't care either way so long as they get paid.

Some of the instructions on the forms and the instructions that the consulate gives you don't make sense. Follow whatever the instructions are from the consulate. In my instructions, Montreal told me to mail the DS-156K as well as the DS-156 (to be filled out online --not handwritten) and the DS-230 Part I immediately (don't worry about part II... I didn't need it so I'm assuming you wouldn't). You probably want to send in the checklist with those, because that will get you into the system sooner for interview dates.

The DS-156 that I filled out was at http://evisaforms.state.gov.

For the schooling question, I started with high school.

    Hope that helps! :)
