Hi Lucyrich!

I noticed on your timeline that you received your passport in 10 days? Was this a routine application, or did you expedite it? We're in transition to moving to another house by the end of the month, and I'm afraid that it might get lost in the mail (if I have them forward it to the new address). Anyway, not really a big deal, but just wanted to ask anyway. =)

I'd recommend going to an office supply store, getting a stack of 100 index cards, and making your own flash cards by writing the questions on one side and writing the answers on the other. You can look up the questions and answers on the USCIS web site.

Of course you can get pre-made flash cards, but the act of writing the questions and answers down on a piece of card stock yourself can help cement the knowledge into your brain. Different people may learn slightly differently, so this may be more effective for some people than for others.

It seems like it was just yesterday when we first started everything. From the very first application we filed, to the biometrics, interviews, countless calls to NVC, etc. I can't believe that I've finally reached the end! I just want to thank everyone who helped me get this far. Thank you, thank you, and thank you!!

For those of you who are still waiting (for approvals, interviews, etc.), just have a little more patience. =)

One question though... is there anyone I can call to find out when (or which) oath taking I will be partaking in? I know I may be jumping the gun a bit, but I want to make sure that I'm here when they send me the letter. We're planning on taking the kids to Disneyland =)

Hi everyone!

Just wanted to thank you all for the support you've given all throughout the years. I can't believe that this journey is almost over. *tear*

Needless to say, I passed my interview this morning =) The process took less than 20 minutes. Waiting to be called in, however, felt like an eternity. My appointment was set for 9:05, but I didn't get called in until 9:20. I was out the door w/ a big smile and a huge sigh of relief before 9:45.

I'll keep you all updated when I get my oath letter. =)

if you're wondering what questions were asked, here are a few that i recall: (in no particular order)

1. what does the presidents cabinet do

2. how many chief justices are there

3. give one branch of the government

4. if the president and v.p. can no longer serve, who becomes the president

5. we elect a u.s. senator for how many years

i'm pretty sure there was another question, but i really don't remember what it was...?? unless there were only 5?? lol. i just know that even before he finished the question, i already knew the answer. =D

then i was asked to read: "when is columbus day?"

then i had to write: "columbus day is in october."

Received my interview letter last Monday. A very good way to start the week off, after ending the previous week w/ an appendectomy.

i just called safeway and was told that the most i can get for a single money order is $500. i obviously need $675 to cover all fees, so i guess what i'm asking is, would it be a problem if i got 2 separate money orders? one for $500, and another for $175?? thanks!!

thanks for all your replies. i sure do hope that she's got it all wrong. i have to be honest though, i'm still a little apprehensive about this, because afterall, she is the one who does all the immigration paperwork for their employees. wouldn't you think she's current with whatever information she has?? i don't know. just a thought.

I think this is the best place to ask this question. Anyway, we're still contemplating whether to file for citizenship or not. One of my husbands clients works as the HR person for this one company, who happens to be in charge also of their immigration/sponsorship department (I don't know what else to call it, but that seems approriate). So, my husband just briefly mentioned to her that we're planning to get my US citizenship, allowing me to be dual (canadian and us). Then she asked if we have any intention of moving back to canada in the future, which in fact, we do. So anyway, she said that if we did do this, that we would have to give up our US citizenship. Is anyone aware of this? I mean, is there any truth to this? I was trying to find more info on the USCIS website, but I haven't come across anything. She said that this change is pretty recent. I'm so confused. Can someone please enlighten me. Thanks.

Yes, assuming you're a normal taxpayer who files for the calendar year. Some taxpayers have a fiscal year that doesn't end on 12/31, but that probably doesn't apply to you.

faylen, wait until your citizenship is completed, then send in the stuff for CIC. Most CIC applications for spouses are completed within 3 to 6 months anyhow, so if your US citizenship is moving right along, you'll be in Canada by this time next year anyhow

James and I are starting the paperwork again to move to Canada. I honestly don't like it here much at all, its becoming familiar of course after nearly 4 years, but its not home.

I have an Aunt who lived in the US for 45 years and she never felt at home either. I don't think I'll torture myself quite that long

Itll take us a while to complete James' paperwork becuase he's got a criminal (juvenile) record to contend with that'll take us a few extra months to process. So in the meantime, we're looking to move to central New York state, closer to my family so I can just drive up for day trips whenever I want, and they can come down to see James and the dogs.

Hopefully the paperork won't take us much more than a year. Fingers crossed.

Thanks Reba! We might do just that =) So really, it only takes 6 months to petition?? I guess we'll take things one step at a time. Right now, the main thing is to become a citizen.. then move on from there. Well good luck to you and James. I hope everything works out for the best for you guys also. =)

I have to raise my hand for this. I am totally feeling all of you. I've been here for 5 years, and yet it still doesn't feel like "home" to me. My kids and I just came back from a nice long, very pampered, spoiled rotten (by my mom) vacation in Vancouver. We stayed for 2 months, and seriously, I didn't want to come back. My hubby and I are doing just fine. No marital problems whatsoever, but I have to be honest.. it's the "monster-in-law"!! She meddles just a little too much, especially w/ the kids. Anyway, that's the bulk of it. I just feel like I don't belong here.

Anyway, when we were there, I was so convinced that I didn't want to come back to the US anymore, inspite of everything that we had to go through with the whole immigration process. So, my hubby actually was the one who decided that maybe we should move to Vancouver. So here I go, running around the house with my 5 month baby in my tummy bouncing all around like an egg yolk... then someone had to burst my bubble and told me that since I became a PR in the US, that I can only be gone for so long, otherwise, it would mean that I've abandoned my status here! AHHHH! Had I known this in the beginning, I think I would've just stayed in Canada.

Well, to put me out of my misery... let's just say that I started doing my homework.

Well anyway, here's where were at now. Since I'm already eligible to file for US citizenship, we figured that that's probably the only way we could move to Canada without me sacrificing my status in the US.

Now here's the problem...... I'm about to send my application for US citizenship. Now, were thinking, and not to get ahead of ourselves too much, basing on how "fast" some people are getting their applications approved, we're hoping that at least by January, I'll be a citizen already. Well, since I still need to petition him in order for all of us to live in Canada, and knowing that this is also a lengthy process, we were thinking that maybe we should also start his paperwork now, while I'm applying for citizenship. I'm kind of hesitant to do it, just because I don't want them to deny my US citizenship application if they find out that I'm also petitioning my husband to live in Canada at the same time? I don't know. What should I do? Should I wait until I become a citizen, then petition him??

haha. thanks again. anyway, i was just reading another thread regarding the biometrics. just lately, the tip of my right middle finger managed to get some sort of dermatitis or eczema or something. well the bottom line is, the skins been peeling quite a lot. will they ask me to come back at a later time when my finger is nice and clean? i know, so random. but i couldn't help it.

i know that a lot of people here send a transcript, but it's going to take another 2 weeks just for it to arrive. i intend to send this by thursday since we're leaving for a vacation over the weekend.

anyway, here's what i have so far. i guess it's better if i just write it and you can tell me if this is enough.. or not:

1. copy of hubby's passport

2. copy of all our kids birth certificates

3. our marriage certificate

4. tax returns from the last 3 years (a whopping total of approx 30+ pages)

both of us had never been married previously, so obviously there aren't any documentation to send as proof of this.

Well, it's actually not me, it's my hubby =) So, we decided to move to Seattle... but of course we need to find a job first before we can do the actual "moving" thing. Anyway, I'm reaching out to anyone who might be able to help my hubby to find an IT job in Seattle. Recruiters are always good in my opinion. He's always had a recruiter find him a job before, or I should say, help him land a job.

It's been a month since he started looking, but no luck. We're giving ourselves until August, and, if he still doesn't have a job offer by then, we'll have to put our plan on hold until next year. ****big sigh****

I've lived long enough in California (it might not be that long, but 5 years is long enough for me), and I just really want to be closer to my family..... *a really big sigh again* ****and again***
