I am a Canadian who has been on a TN for 10 plus years. I am planning on marrying in the US to my US sweetie who is a USC, but my TN will expire before the wedding (may 08 TN expires, wedding later). Should I renew my TN, then get married, or should we legally get married, and then re-new my TN. Once I have more time I will file the AOS, EAD ect. Any help would be beneficial. Thanks.

From my research un-employment is a state by state thing, some states consider it to be a means tested benefit, and others do not consider it to be means tested.
I-864 specifies sponsor is responsible to pay back means tested benefits.
Unemployment inusance is a benefit solely funded by employers.

It doesn't bother me...I don't write much visa info these days but I answer other questions on the boards sometimes and ask questions. I think a "thank you everyone" is fine instead of having to thank each one individually, especially if you get lots of responses.
I agree.
And in case I've forgotten to thank people over the months....Thank you
I see that you are in Fairfax, good luck! The district is a little behind in processing cases ( coz of volume) but my interview experience was painless!

If USCIS needs you to do another biometrics, they will send you one for your AOS. The NOA usually have a code# for what type of biometrics they need you to get. When it is a 3 it is for both AOS and EAD. A code 2, I believe,it is just for EAD. Hope all goes well with your journey.

When I applied for a name change for my SS#, I was told that I don't need to change my name-it is optional. It is not a requirement. It applies to all identification. - a person has the right to keep their name from birth unless the country of origin has some regulation on this. I carried my ex-spouse name when I applied for my visa, all documents relating to USCIS was on my ex-spouse name. Passport, EAD, driver's license and correspondence. No questions. You just need to have joint proof of ownership, insurance, etc in your husbands name and the name you have on your passport for consistency.
Hope this will give you some peace of mind. All is good. Don't worry too much, keep yourself busy, volunteer, knit, travel and enjoy each other, take some pictures to remind you of the wonderful life you share with your husband.

p.s when I had my interview, I was never asked why I didn't change my name.

I have been a VJ reader over the past few months. I have learned a lot from this site. I thought of posting and replying to some issues but since I don't know much about US immigration laws, I thought, I'd keep to myself. Stress, anxiety, lots of worries - this site seemed to have given me answers to my questions. So thank you VJ members.
Today, we had our interview and it was painless. The DAO was just as nice as anyone would hope for. DAO did not ask a lot of questions, just the basic biographical info submitted on I-485.
She swore us in -
Asked for :
our identifications -
Birth Certificates -
Marriage Certificate -
Here are the questions -
When and where did you first meet?
What was the wedding like?
Have you left the country since you last entered?
How many times have you been married?
Do you have supporting documents?
DAO looked at the originals of the supporting documents we had - didn't ask for joint tax returns, just original and copies of utility bills.
And then DAO made some copies and typed something on the computer, stood up and DAO siad one document needed to be submitted. And that was that. The whole interivew lasted 20 minutes including looking at documents and casual talk.
We were told that as soon as I submitted the requested document, DAO will make decision.
Are we approved or not, quite frankly I am not sure, - but right now, we are just happy this event is over!
Thanks to all!
I will post again when I get a decision.
