  1. I got a yellow letter from USCIS yesterday, requesting me to bring my state-issued driver's license or state-issued photo identification card to the naturalization interview. There is no interview date in the letter! I wonder if anybody had this similar request, and what it is about? And how long should I expect for an interview letter?

    Thanks

Wonder what brain started this? To get that drivers' license or state ID card, in my state they want to see your green card as the key form of identification, so that is only a secondary form of identification.

For my wife, we had to supply all kinds of proof as to who she was to the USCIS, birth certificate, passport, medical, and work records, bank accounts, credit cards, and fortunately she worked for an American based company that helped considerably, plus I had to prove who I was with our marriage certificate that also required a lot of proof as to who we were to get in our state just to get her that green card. And all translated into English.

Ha, I wondered what would happen if I met a girl living in the jungle without all that paperwork to back her up. So now they want a state backup based on the USCIS and the FBI? Sounds crazy, but one thing for sure, after all this, you are not even sure who you are. Then with all that additional proof they want for the N-400, did they ever think on what you went through even to get that green card? Or maybe, they just don't think.

haha. I agree. And this was with the same logic, we neglected to include the documents mentioned in the separate documents checklist for N-400 (my wife just got her permanent card a month or two ago), plus it was an oversight. Now we did get our first NOA, but it does not say anything about RFE - but I expect that shortly, if not having to bring the mentioned documents again at the interview.

  2. Hi,

For those who travel with an expired GC and one year extension letter.

When you get back and got a stamp (on your passport) at your port of entry. Did the officer write anything on your stamp? I just take a look at mine. They wrote APC on the stamp. I wasn’t sure what’s that mean.

    Any idea?

    Thank you.

We just took a cruise, and my wife's passport was checked in USVI, since it is a US territory, and upon return to Orlando, FL. No stamps were issued, but they did look at the stamp after seeing that the GC had expired.

  3. Apparently, there are several threads of the same nature in this forum right now, and it seems to be happening more often than not. However, since I started this thread, I thought I let everyone know about where we stand.

Someone recommended to take the passport to the ASC during the biometrics appt. to see if they can stamp it with I-551 for extension. As it turns out, these people had no clue about I-551 (wifey says they suggested that they are just contractors), so InfoPass appointment at the filed office is inevitable, if we do not see the NOA for extention letter in mail soon.

  4. I'm also in the same boat as you. My wife received her Biometrics appt. letter for her appt. scheduled for the 18th. We're still waiting on the extension letter. My wifes GC is now out of status, and we need to go to her biometrics appt. with that expired GC and no letter of extension.

I don't know if this is solely a VSC issue or now, but we seem to be the ones this happens to more often that other places.

*keeps fingers crossed and hopes for the extension letter.

Hey Xsoldier2000, thanks for sharing your experience as well. Our biometrics appointment is exactly a week away. I was thinking to ask them about this when we go to the ASC for it, or alternatively, make an InfoPass appointment at the field office. Since the time frame is unknown at this point, I will much rather be prepared, in case we have to travel outside of the US.

I shall keep everyone posted through this thread.

  5. Has anyone else experienced this? We received the biometrics notice first, which is dated the same date (2.29.08) as the transfer of our file to VSC, per the case status online (see below). I was actually looking forward to either the transfer notice or the notice of receipt because as I understand it, it would've included the proof of extension for another year, such as what many members here are getting.

Should I be concerned about not getting these notices in any particular order? I already see that some of us wait longer than others, but now I think that some USCIS notices are not sent in order, or worse, never actually arrive. I am glad that this did not happen with our Biometrics notice, because that would possibly pose a bigger issue if it was indeed lost. As a side note, I actually know someone else that received their intial notice, then two weeks later, received the BIO notice, where as, everything seem to have happened on the same day for us. I am especially getting concerned about the possiblity of it being lost because it does indicate below that I was sent 'a notice of transfer'

Oh yeah, and must I add, that I also do not like the fact that we recieved the BIO notice very close to the actual appointment date for it, which is next week (3.19.2008)!!
