  1. Does anyone know a cheap and good lawyer in the LA county area? It would be even better if she/he was Filipino. I dont know anyone and I dont want to be scammed. I dont have any money. Thanks much

I know someone, he has an office in LA and San Diego and he is a Filipino. PM me your email address and ill send you his number and website.

Guys just please make sure the lawyers you are recommending are "cheap" as good quality lawyers you can get. I dont have any money. I am new here and have been supporting myself. Im trying to look for a second job.

  2. Oh gosh, it was not really a question of why but what to do. My husband and i believed that we loved each other when we came into this marriage and there really is no "legal" grounds for divorce (i.e. adultery, abuse on both sides etc). We care for each other , he just thinks that getting divorced is better to move on. He doesnt like misunderstandings.

He wants me to leave ASAP because he's scared that I will disappear and he will be legally responsible for me. In short -go TNT.He's scared as many other foreign nationals are.

I just really needed advice on the legalities and what happens to me once my husband calls immigration and says we're getting a divorce. Maybe more on what I can do for myself to keep myself here.

My advice to fiancees are get to know the other person as much as you can, dont rush in. Know your rights and read up about this before going to another country or you will be left on your own grasping empty air. You are entrusting your everything to another person.

Thank you for the prayers. I appreciate them.

  3. Just wanted to post my nightmare exp at St Luke's and how I still proceeded with scheduled interview without medical results.

My K1 case was expedited and I got a scheduled medical on Nov 28 and interview on Dec 5 2007. My wedding was scheduled for Dec 23!

Anyway, travelled to manila, arrived at 6:30 am on Nov 28 and went through all the tests. Everything was so slow and people were not organized. 2nd to the last was my physical exam and the absolutely rude lady doctor treated me like I wasnt a person! Then she noticed I had a scar on the wrist which was from an accident when i was 8yo but didnt bother to ask me what it was. So i thought everything was ok. continued to other procedures..Atlast 7:30PM comes, my name is called but the counter guy says I cant get my results because the examining physician referred me to psych exam. It gets worse and worse. I have to pay addtl 1000! Plus thursday is fully booked for psych interview (Nov 29) and they are closed on Nov 30!!! So my option is Tuesday again. Cutting it really close since it takes 2 days to release exams. I had no other choice but to go back to the province and return next week. I was still hopeful

Tuesday comes and I arrive for my schedule. My psych interview is quick -no problem. Then, the counter guy says to me that the original examining physician who referred me to the psych interview took a month's vacation and she is the only one who's authorized to sign release papers!!! I hate her. She didnt even transfer the case to another doctor. As a result, i had to undergo physical exam again and line-up. It was hard enough the first time. Problem was i had my period and guy said they dont do it when a woman has her period. I plead to them and cry in front of people saying that why should I undergo the same exam when i am done with it.? I asked if another doctor can sign for the other and he says no. I tell him my interview is next day and my wedding is on the 23rd. I plead and plead and still he says we will just ask Immigration to schedule another interview date. My gosh.

I still decide to stay in Manila and willed my period to stop eventhough it has just begun. still I go to the interview without my medical results. Thank goodnes I did! I go through the window and explain my situation and I was allowed to proceed.I go through interview steps without a hitch. The American interviewer is nice and makes some jokes. My interview lasted just around 5 min and is approved ! In my excitement though and the interviewer's forgetfulness, he forgets to mention the next step when I ask him what to do. he just says, wait for it in the mail. So i left and didnt get any paper or pink slip or pay DELBROS. stupid me.

Anyway, i go for another physical exam after the interview. I dont get my results. They say they will mail it directly to US embassy next day since I had my interview already.. I call them next day and ask if they sent results to US embassy and they asked my name and said yes. I thought everything was ok and go to my hometown until I learn the next week from Immigration that they didnt have my results one week after. I had to call St Lukes again and make sure that they give my results because my flight is on the 14th.

Anyway, everything gets messed up because of St Lukes and their incompetent personnel. They should get a bigger facility first of all so people wouldnt be like sardines in their building and they should HIRE more people!! They are getting so much money esp since they are the only agency approved for medicals for anyone immigrating to the US and other countries. They should be more efficient and organized too. -use technology for goodness;' sake.Their personnel are not exactly the nicest people even when you are just asking some info. They are really the worst.

For people going for a medical-arrive really early because eventhough they are not yet open, the guards hand out numbers already. I didnt know this so eventhough I was early, I was 100+ already.

  4. Thank you all so much for the replies.I am trying to work out my marriage. It's complicated.I was not trying to point fingers at anyone nor solicit pity. My husband is not a bad guy. I just stated the facts to ask advice regarding my immigration case. If it really doesnt work out I will try to call Phil embassy or try to get working visa. But I am like other Filipinos who believe marriage is for keeps and problems can be overcome.

    Regarding my case:

I logged in at USCIS and it says there that last update was Feb 25, 2008. Seems like no one is working on it. I see most people's cases filed same time as mine being touched. I tried calling but they couldn't help me. Last notice I got was from National Benefits center.

  5. to answer some questions, yes I was petitioned through K1 visa. I dont have really funds for hiring an immigration lawyer and thats why Im here seeking advice on legalities and what i can do to continue to stay here inspite of going through a divorce and not having a greencard yet. im expecting the interview sometime this July but will I be deported because Im going through a divorce or do they wait till its finalized? what do i say during the interview? Im really lost.

  6. im sorry to hear about your situation. I dont really have an advice because Im new to the country too . just wanna say that i think a lot of citizens who go to another country and meet someone and fall in love have wrong expectations of their spouses to be. They persuade that person to come and live with them here and promise a good life and when they find out once the marriage starts that they dont really know each other well or he/she is not what they expected, they think they can just deport or send someone back as if that person was something bought from a store and can be returned just because there is divorce here. They dont consider that the other person left a good career or future behind, their families and entrusted their future to this citizen .Being sent home after just a few months of marriage is so embarrassing esp if they defended the marriage to their family and friends and in their home country divorce is frowned upon.

  7. I'd go see a immigration lawyer. If your hubby has shown any signs of mental or physical abuse you may be able to get the GC on your own.

Hopefully your AOS was transfered to CSC and you have a good chance of getting your GC without an interview.

How do I know exactly what is happening to my case or if it was moved to the CSC? Last I checked online it was transferred to National Benfits center or something.

  8. Hi kababayans,

Im new here but need some advice. I came here and got married December 2007. it's May,less than 6 months married and my husband wants a divorce. I love my husband and dont want a divorce but I cant be on a marrige on my own.I

I filed my AOS and EAD on Feb 2008 and just got my EAD card. I'm working now and can barely support myself. I dont really want to return to the philippines right now because of the stigma of divorce.I dont want to be 26 and divorced so early into the marriage. Wala akong mukhang maihaharap. I dont want to go back to all my friends and family with my tail behind my back after I defended this marriage albeit wrongly. I had a good career there and if I return now, I dont have any money on my own because I send my extra cash to my family. This is another reason I dont want to go back-I have siblings I need to support. I'm well educated and have good working experience.

My question is: What are my options after divorce when my AOS is still pending, I dont have a greencard yet and my husband will definitely not support my getting a greencard. He actually wants me to leave ASAP so that I wont be able to get it because we are expecting an interview this June or July or he is afraid Ill be TNT which obviously I wont be doing. What can I do while we are going through the divorce process? I dont even know how long it will take. I was thinking of going to Canada or Middle East instead so atleast Ill still be earning more. What are the chances that if I go back to the Philippines and cancel my AOS application, I can get a US visa in the future? Im really lost, please help me.

  9. Hi! I opened this thread for who ever going to file for AOS or EAD.

    Good Luck!

Hi everyone, im new here. Just wanted to ask some help..

I filed my AOS,EAD Jan 31 in Chicago. It was received Feb. 01,2008. I received my NOA Feb.6. Got my biometrics date on 2/11/08 and had biometrics taked on 2/23/08.

Now my question is this- the day after I sent the AOS package, my husband cancelled the check because we had some problem with our bank account and some mix-up so anyway 2 days after cancelling problem was resolved and we had the problem fixed at our bank and check should have been good. We were hoping that the check problem had been resolved before our AOS was received by the USCIS. I received my NOAs and biometrics appointment so i thought everything was ok and then I got a letter dated Feb 19 that our case was put on hold because the check was cancelled. We remedied it by following the instructions in the letter and resending payment before the due date. Has anyone been on the same situation before? Do you know how long the application will be delayed and other things that might be of consequence? I tried checking my case status online but the latest news was from Feb. 19/07.Thanks
