  1. You are not alone in your dilemna. Read some peoples' immigration journeys and you will shed tears for them. My fiance's K-1 visa was denied in Lagos in 2007. DHS wrote to inform me that I would hear from them later. That was 6 months ago. I have written to them. No response. I even went to USCIS District Office in Houston. I was told to contact the California Service Center. I have even involved my 2 U.S. Senators and my Congresswoman. Still no response. Since you are in AP, at least you know where you stand. I have a feeling they are doing what they are doing to discourage U.S. citizens from marrying from abroad.

Did you watch CBS "Early Show" today, June 9th? In one of the segments, some members of ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) went to Baghdad, Iraq to rescue abandoned dogs. While dogs (considered properties, by law) are allowed to immigrate to the U.S., our spouses are kept out of the country by U.S. Embassy and Consulate staffs. Who would have thought that dogs have preferences over humans when it comes to U.S. immigration issues?

  2. RickieAndEva, you are right. I checked the Showtopic that Brian&Mel indicated. Contrary to the posted information, the VJer in question did not have her petition approved in 42 days. She has been a member of VJ since March 2007 and her approval came from the notoriously antiquated Texas SC. If anything, her approval took more than 365 days. So much for quick approval!!

  3. Hi kelly1290:

My main reason of wanting to provide you with my e-mail address is to ask you to provide me with the type of questions you were asked (when that time comes) at the Consulate. My fiancee was there in September 2007 for a K-1 petition and was denied. So I went to Nigeria in December and got married in January 2008. I am not worried about the petition process in the U.S. end. Rather, my concern is the Hollier than thou ConOffs at the Consulate who are more interested in impeding couples from being together. I am interested in each question asked and would appreciate if you could send them to me. Anyway, here is my e-mail: eilome@hotmail.com Thank you, and good luck.

  4. Hi kelly1290:

I have been reading this thread for sometime and I have particular interest in your postings because our situations are similar: we are both filing for K-3, and through the U.S. Consulate in Lagos. I haven't received my NOA2 on either my I-130 or the I-129F yet. I filed in January 2008. Could I send you my e-mail for better communication? I am happy for you, for having your petitions approved.

  5. This is for all VJers, especially myangel2. I hope you all can give me some advice here. I have been visiting many forums on VJ with the hope of finding someone whose visa journey is similar to mine and maybe, share ideas on how to remedy the situation.

My fiancee's K-1 application was denied at the U.S. Consulate in Lagos, Nigeria in September 2007. According to the short letter they gave her then, the reason for the denial was: The relationship that is purported in this petition is not a real relationship. This is a relationship established for immigration purposes only.[/color] The Consulate subsequently returned our petition to USCIS in California. We weren't even given the opportunity to appeal.

But my fiancee and I did have a genuine relationship. In December 2007, I went to Nigeria and we got married on January 2, 2008. I filed an I-130 upon return to the U.S. My question is, what do I do to remedy the September 2007 denial so that she would not have the same experience when she is invited for an interview the second time? Based on what I have been reading, I would need to file I-601. Would I need to? My fiancee has never committed any crime, has no police record, has never been deported, and has no communicable diseases. I need some advice, pleeeeeease.

  6. Hi VJers:

I am new to this tread but have been reading and following what many of you have been writing, especially lawrence_jeramie who has been doing a fantastic job updating many people's visa journey. I hope it is not too late, but I would appreciate if you could include me in your January 2008 filing list. I am filing a K-3 and here is my timeline:

    I-130

01/02/2008 Married my beautiful Lady O in Nigeria

01/12/2008 Sent I-130 packet to Chicago Lockbox

01/21/2008 USPS delivers packet to Chicago Lockbox

02/16/2008 Received NOA1 from Vermont Service Center

    I-129F

02/26/2008 Sent I-129F packet to Vermont Service Center

03/07/2008 Received NOA1 from Vermont Service Center

Now, the dreaded waiting for NOA2 starts...

    Hello A & O,

Go to this link and update your timeline. It would be helpful. It adds to the websites data. And would benefit all.

O.K., I did, as you suggested. Thank you.

  7. No, I did not try to get it stopped. I don't even know if I could have even stopped it. The letter my fiancee was given only stated that the petition would be returned to the USCIS office that approved the petition for possible revocation because, according to the ConOf at the Consulate, she didn't think a genuine relationship existed between my fiancee and I. But that wasn't true.

I was here in the U.S. and my fiancee went to the U.S. Consulate herself, as many significant others do. Our plan was for her to obtain a K-1 visa, get to the U.S. and we would then marry within 90 days of her arrival. Since the visa was denied (in September 2007), I then travelled to Nigeria in December 2007, we got married in January 2008, and have since filed an I-130 and subsequently another I-129F for a K-3 visa with the Vermont Service Center. The whole experience was a shame because a ConOf at the Lagos Consulate had to play Almighty and decided what constituted a genuine relationship.

  8. As I read many of the posts in VJ, all I can read are from people writing about their experiences in their journey to secure a K-1 visas. What I haven't seen are situations where visas are denied at the U.S. Embassies or Consulates. I am opening this thread with the hope that others who have had such sad and sorry experiences would share and write about what happened and what they did or are doing to remedy the situation. I know, because my fiancee's visa application was denied at the U.S. Consulate in Lagos, Nigeria, in 2007.
