  1. I just sent in the page that has the doctor's check marks next to all the vaccination names. The one that you got with your medical exam in Canada.

Many recommend getting a US doctor to basically copy the medical results down on a new form. But to me it's going to read the same either way.

They accepted mine when I sent it in.

OK thank you very much for your advice! I think I'll do the same as you! If ever I get a RFE I will then contact a civil surgeon to fill that damn i-693.

  2. Hi!

I am about to send my application for AOS + EAD + AP and I have the following question about the Vaccination Supplement sheet that is required.

When I had my medical examination for my K1 visa they gave me a sheet called "Vaccination Documentation Worksheet"(DS-3025 apparently) (it says on this sheet "for use with DS-2053").

Is it the sheet that I need to submit along with my AOS application?

What about the medical documents that are in that big brown enveloppe that I still have and that was never opened?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi, first question, are in US now?I read all the answers of our fellow vjs and kinda confusing..If you are in US now, I am wondering why you still have that envelope..another question, did you get married? marriage contract is need for AOS..Lucians girl is right, why u still have that brown envelope that says "do not open" if you are here already. When I filed for my AOS, our lawyer didn't include the separated vaccination paper, she said that we'll wait if the USCIS ask for it. I didn't have an Interview nor asked for RFE or vaccination.

Yes I am in the US now and got married 3 weeks ago!

I just realized what brown sealed enveloppe you guys are talking about :-) I gave that one to the immigration officer at the border :-) The only brown enveloppe that I have now is the x-ray one. I guess I don't need to do anything with it for now right?

So you think that if I submit form DS-3025 ("Vaccination Documentation Worksheet") with my AOS it will be OK?

  3. Hi there good luck in advance. Yes include that DS-3025 vaccination supplement together with the form I-693 signed and sealed in an envelope by a CIvil Surgeon with your AOS application. The brown envelope "must not be opened". You will need to handed it to the immigration officer upon your entry here in the US and they will get it all.

I don't understand....I read at several places that the results of the medical examination that I had for my K1 visa were good for a year (I had that examination a couple months ago) so that I didn't need to have another examination when applying for AOS....

    Can someone confirm?

  4. Hi!

I am about to send my application for AOS + EAD + AP and I have the following question about the Vaccination Supplement sheet that is required.

  6. Hi!

I'm about to mail my application for AOS + EAD + AP and I just wanted to confirm with you guys that my checklist is complete:

    AOS:

    - Form i-485 and the following supporting documents:

    - Copy of my birth certificate + translation into english

    - Copy of my passport

    - Copy of my K1 Visa

    - Copy of my I-94

    - Copy of my
    NOA
    for my fiance petition

    - Copy of my marriage certificate

    - Copy of my vaccination sheet (obtained at the medical I had for my K1 visa a couple of months ago)

    - 2 passport-style photos

    - Form i-864 and the following supporting documents:

    - Wife's last 3 years of tax returns

    - Wife's pay stubs for the last 6 months

    - Form G-325A

    EAD:

    - Form i-765 and the following supporting documents:

    - Copy of my passport

    - Copy of my K1 Visa

    - Copy of my I-94

    - 2 passport-style photos

    AP:

    - Form i-131 and the following supporting documents:

    - Copy of my passport

    - Copy of my K1 Visa

    - Copy of my I-94

    - 2 passport-style photos

Fees: $1010 (money order to U.S. Department of Homeland Security)

  7. Hi!

The marriage certificate certified copies that I have have our dates of birth blacked-out as well as our SSN numbers (since according to the lady working at the court office those documents are public so they have to hide those information)

Is it going to be a problem if I use one of those copies when filing for AOS? Should I use a regular photocopy of the original marriage certificate instead (showing our dates of birth and SSN)?

  8. Hi!

Do I need to send my original I-94 when filing form I-485? (the instructions provided with form I-485 say "Attach a copy of the fiancé(e) petition approval notice, a copy of your marriage certificate, and your Form I-94"....

Does that mean a copy of the I-94 or the original?

    Thank you in advance!!

  9. Hi!

When completing form i-131 (form for Advance Parole), they ask "On a separate sheet(s) of paper, please explain how you qualify for an advance parole document and what circumstances warrant issuance of advance parole.  Include copies of any documents you wish considered."

Since I am filing for Advance Parole at the same time as I am filing for AOS, do I need to provide any extra explanations / documents (since copies of the K1 visa, I-94, etc...will already be attached to the AOS application)?

  10. Hi!

    I have a question concerning section 16 of form I-765 (I'm applying for EAD/AOS as a K1 visa holder):

Should I specify category (a)(6) (K1 visa) or ©(9) (Adjustment applicant)?

The example provided in the Example Forms section of VisaJourney shows ©(9) but I just wanted to make sure that it is indeed the correct option to choose when filing for EAD and AOS at the same time.

This is what the instructions given by USCIS say:

©(9): Adjustment Applicant: File your EAD application with a copy of the receipt notice or other evidence that your Form I-485, Application for Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, is pending. You may file Form I-765 together with your Form I-485.

(a)(6): K-1 Nonimmigrant Fiance(e) of U.S. Citizen or K-2 Dependent: File your EAD application if you are filing within 90 days from the date of entry. This EAD cannot be renewed. Any EAD application other than for a replacement must be based on your pending application for adjustment under ©(9).

    Thank you for your help!

  11. Hi!

I just got married last weekend and my wife (the US citizen) is planning on changing her name. Should I wait until she has changed her name before I file for AOS/EAD or can I use her current name if I want to start completing the AOS forms now? Or should she wait before changing her name?

Thank you in advance for your help!

  12. Hi!

I know there's a specific thread about EI and I have read most of it over the last weeks (20 pages....).

However I just wanted to validate a few points related to EI:

Note: My last day of work will be thursday this week (June 26) and I will be moving to Florida on sunday (June 29).

    - When should I appply for EI? Is it better if I wait until I'm already moved in the US or should I do it before I move?

    - Where should I apply? (online or by the phone?)

    - I will receive my ROE only a couple of weeks after my last day of work (so sometime around mid-July i guess). Can I still apply for EI and send them the ROE + I-94 later?

    - Do I send originals of the ROE and the I-94 or only copies?

    - Do I need to send them a marriage certificate once I'm married?

    I know, I know....that's a lot of questions :-)

Thanks in advance for your help!

  13. Hi!

I still haven't received my tax return from Revenu Quebec and I'll be moving to Florida next week....most probably before receiving that tax return. Although I'll have my mail transfered to my new address in Florida I was wondering if I will be able to deposit the tax return check (labelled in canadian dollars) at my bank in Florida? (I am a client of the Royal Bank of Canada and I also opened an account with their american branch RBC Centura).

    Thanks for your help!

  14. Hi,

I just received my K1 visa (yay!! That was really fast since I had my interview on monday!). The Montreal Consulate also returned my original Birth Certificate document but they didn't return other the originals of my Police Certificate and my girlfriend's employer letter.

Am I going to need those documents when applying for AOS?

    Thank you!

  15. Bus from Montreal to Vermont : 20$ (about 2 hours)

Gas to come back with truck from Vermont to Montreal : 30$ max.

I would save about 500$....(1300$ if renting in Canada vs. 800$ if renting in the US)

As far as the k1 visa goes I had the interview 2 days ago so I should receive it in a few days hopefully.

Are you factoring the cost of gas needed for the truck?? They get crappy gas mileage. And is the extra mileage going from Vermont to Montreal and back factored into the price?

I honestly think you're underestimating it, but that's just me. And you haven't answered my other question -- is the UHaul quote done by mileage or by flat rate? If it's mileage, and you're adding on extra by taking it up to Montreal, they might ding you hard. You may also have troubles at the border.

I wouldn't be renting with U-Haul if I would rent the truck in the US. I would go with Penske or Budget (Budget has unlimited mileage for the one-way rental).

What kind of trouble do you think I could have at the border?

  17. I've been comparing the prices of one-way truck rentals from Canada to USA and also from USA to USA (only option from Canada to USA is U-Haul).

It really seems that U-Haul is taking advantage of this monopoly situation on one-way rentals Canada/USA (they're charging around 1300$ before taxes and insurance fees for a one-way rental between Montreal and Orlando.... ; whereas renting in the US would only cost around 800$....).

So I'm starting to look at the option of crossing the border to go and rent my truck in Burlington (Vermont), then drive back to Montreal with the truck, load it and then drive all the way down to Florida.

Has anyone done something similar in the past?

The other tricky part here is that i do not want to activate my K1 when crossing the border to go rent my truck.

I am still kind of worried about this K1 visa activation question (I have read the whole topic talking specifically about this issue)....Do you guys think that I could have a problem crossing the border if I just bring my Canadian Citizenship card with me when I take a Greyhound bus through customs to go and pick up the rental truck in Vermont? (by bringing only my citizenship card I wouldn't have to present my passport with the K1 in it)

    Thank you!

  18. I don't see why it should. Most vehicles today have both mph and km/h on it. In the U.S., miles are larger since we use those, but in other countries (Canada included), I've been told that km/h is larger. Either way, the other unit of measurement is there too.

I was asking the question because my motorcycle's speedometer is a digital one and only displays km/h.... :-(

Have you checked your owners manual? My mom had a car a couple of years ago that had a digital speedometer and it could switch back and forth between mph and km/h (in fact...the car had originally been sold in Canada, she bought it used in the US)...maybe yours switches back and forth, too. :)

No, I've already checked that and unfortunately my speedometer doesn't have this functionnality :-( A new one costs apparently somewhere between 600 to 800$....

  19. Approved!!

I arrived at the Consulate at 7AM. I was the first one waiting. A lady and her daughter arrived a few minutes later.

Then other people started to arrive and we started to form a line.

The security guard came around 7:30AM and opened the door. I had to present him with my appointment letter and my passport.

Then some other guards asked me to put all my documents in a tray and empty my pockets in another one.

I was given a tag with the letter A and "Window #9" written on it.

I then went through the metal detectors and also got checked with the manual detector.

Then they told me to go down the stairs and wait in a waiting room until some other guard would come and get me around 7:45AM

I waited there for about 5 minutes and a guard showed up right on time at 7:45AM and led all the people waiting in the room in an elevator. We went up to the 19th floor where we were instructed to have a sit in another waiting room.

Then a few minutes later I got to present myself to a window and give my documents to a very nice lady: passport (she didn't sak for a photocopy of it), pictures, Xpresspost enveloppe, letter of intent from my girlfriend, birth certificate (original, translation (since I was born in France) and copies of original and translation), police certificates (again same thing: originals and copies), I-134 and supporting documents (I only gave her the letter from my girlfriend's employer as well as the W2's and forms 1040 for years 2007, 2006, 2005 ; she said it was enough supporting documents so I didn't have to give any bank statements or pay stubs). Note: She just took the photocopies of the W2 and forms 1040 and told me that they don't like to keep the originals of those documents so....

Then she told me to go to window #14 and pay the 131$. I just had to wait there a few minutes because window #14 wasn't opened yet.

Again another very friendly lady took my momey, gave me a receipt for my payment and told me to go directly back to the other window.

There I gave my receipt to the same first lady that had taken my documents a few moments before. She then took my fingerprints and told me to wait in the waiting room until someone calls my name for the interview in room 7 or room 8.

This is pretty much the only moment where I had to wait for a nice amount of time (about 40 minutes I would say).

I was then called into room 8 where a very nice man asked me fo raise my right hand and swear the all the information contained in the documents I had provided were true.

He then went very quickly through all the documents and asked me several questions about me and my girlfriend: how and where I had met, what was the name of the bar we met, what I was planning on doing for a living when I move to the US, what is my girlfriend's job, if she had kids, how old they were, if my girlfriend was already divorced at the time that I met her....

He didn't even ask to see any pictures, plane tickets, phone bills....nothing!!

He told me that I was approved and wished me good luck in the US.

He said he would try to have my visa printed this afternoon and maybe sent today or tomorrow at the latest so that I should receive it within a week or so.

At 9PM sharp I was outside!!

Overal it has been a very smooth experience and all the people that I had to deal with at the Consulate were all very professional and polite.

Congrats but you said you didn't leave until 9PM, well I suppose as long you were approved. Now you can look forward to the nice folks at your POE muttering, "Bienvenue aux Etats-Unis," or "Ou est la bibliotheque," I forget which.

    Sorry....I meant 9:00AM.... :D
