My wife is a USC petitioning for her mother. She is an unemployed housewife.
Will she be required to submit an Affidavit of Support and if so will our joint IRS returns be accepted? I make a low six figure income so I don’t see our joint income being a problem but will I need to also file an AOS?
Thanks for your replies.

Thanks. Do you know if it needs to be notarized?

Can anyone refer me to a vietnamese to english translation service in the Los Angeles area? I need to have a birth certificate translated.

When having a foreign birth certificate translated, what is required? Does it need to be certified or notarized in some way?

I've seen this number requested on the forms for AOS and I assumed it meant Alien Registration Number. I was not aware of Hieu having been given one and when I looked over our paperwork I didn't find a specific reference to this. But then I double checked and noticed that on our NOA2 for the I-129f petition where it gives beneficiary's name, there is a number above her name, AXXX XXX XXX. That is the only place I've been able to find this number. Is this the number I should enter when an AOS form asks for 'A#'?

I'm filling out the I-131 to submit with the I-485 and I'm not sure what to put as an answer to question 1 of part 3, "Date of intended departure?". We don't have plans yet to travel, but rather wanted to have the Advance Parole in the event we do decide to travel before receiving a green card. Am I confused? Is Advance Parole only for when you have exact plans to travel? If not, should I just answer 'undecided'?

Hieu has a letter from IOM where she got 2 rounds of vaccines in Viet Nam. The letter states that she is supposed to have a 3rd round to follow up in six months, which was yesterday. Where do we go? Is there an IOM office here in LA? or do we just go to a clinic and show them the forms? or is this part of her AOS biometrics?

Sorry, updated my timeline. Thanks, I will go to the website to update it now. It's been more than 10 days, so, I hope no problems.

Hieu and I got married yesterday. Who do we contact to to notify that we have fulfilled the requirements of the K1 visa? Also, we were told that the certified copy of the marriage certificate would take 2 months to arrive by mail. Is our copy of the license and marriage certificate that we received yesterday after the ceremony sufficient proof?

Hieu and I moved into a new apartment last month. Who do we need to notify?

I did a search using the title of this topic but didn't find what I was looking for. Hieu and I will be entering at LAX in a few days and while our case has been very simple so far, I want to make sure I'm not forgetting something important.
I'm looking for a concise list of all the documentation that will be required at the POE. Any other tips will be greatly appreciated. Thanks again to all the VJers that have helped us to get this far.

WOOT!!!
Grats to both of you!

Ya, it works fine. I've done it twice. You just have to fill out a form when you arrive. It takes about 10 minutes.
Good luck!
Great News - Thanks - did you use this service or another ?
No, I used the service provided by the travel agency that I booked my hotel through. It's actually a little cheaper.

I answered the question: "Yes, with work authorization". I didn't give any specifics about a profession.
If you haven't already, I suggest going to the Example Forms section. The link is on the navigation bar at the top of the page. It was a big help for me when I had questions like this.
Good luck!

I had a bad experience with DHL, but even FedEx takes three business days.
Good luck!

I've wondered this myself. My guess is the number of posts you make on the forums.

I made sure Thao watched Reno 911 when she came here so she would remember what to dial in case of an emergency.

For our evidence, I turned in my phone bills which only showed one single phone call during the year we had known each other. The only reason I bothered submitting them at all was to show the dozen or so text messages I sent her each month. Almost all our communication was done through Skype.
To show this evidence I went to the Call History tab in Skype and scrolled down to the first entries in the log, then I used Alt+PrtSc to copy the Skype window to the clipboard, then I pasted it into Windows Paint and printed it. I scrolled up a few days and repeated the process.
Don't worry about evidence of phone calls anyway. They aren't considered very strong evidence. What is more important are pictures of your time together and proof of other things that couples in love do for each other, like cards, gifts and a thorough timeline explaining your relationship in detail.
Good luck!

My wife is a USC and is petitioning for her mother who is married. She is not petitioning for her father. Basically, the parents are only still married because they are Catholic. Will there be a problem with the mother immigrating and leaving the husband behind?
Thanks for your replies.
