  1. Thanks for your help. I can't believe it costs so much for one copy of something they shouldn't even need anyway. We couldn't have gotten to the AOS point without being approved. It's insanity. The embassy people took all my husband's originals and his copies and told him that he wouldn't need them again. SIGH. They even have my birth certificate as I sent him my original. What a pain.....I still have the email confirmation, so i may just send that on as we don't have the extra cash right now. It will be risky....

  2. I won't go into the long explanation here as to how I do not have a copy of our NOA2 approval.....it's too embarrassing! We are fixing to apply for the AOS (once we have that dreaded filing fee together) and I read in the Guides that we will need to include the NOA2 in our packet. Does anyone know an easy way to request a copy of it? Is there a way to email? Or does anyone have a number?

As always, thanks to this brilliant community for all the information you share.

  3. My fiance arrived recently and we're going to request his SSN in a few weeks. I am looking at the application and I wondered if anyone knew where a completed sample of this form may be located. I'm a bit confused by questions 10-13. Am I as his US fiance supposed to put in my info there as "acting on his behalf"? Also, is he considered a "legal alien allowed to work"? Any help is appreciated. I hope this was not considered a threadjack, but my question kind of dovetailed with this. THANKS ALL!

I love this question! I raised the same question with the SSA and they said that their form was crystal clear and that any idiot could answer this question. I supposed they were right because they were able to answer it for me. Inspite of incredibly poor wording, what the question is trying to ask is: Has the applicant ever applied for, or has anyone acting on behalf of the applicant ever applied for a SSN for the applicant? If your fiance/spouse has never applied for or had an application submitted for them to get a SSN then the answer is no and proceed with the rest of the form. If they have had an application filed on their behalf for a SSN, then the other questions must be answered.

    Hope this helps.

Wow. Now that you put it that way I kinda feel a bit dumb?? That actually does make sense! Thanks so much!!!

  5. Hi all!

I did a search on this issue and I'm still not clear. My fiance is set to arrive in the States this Friday. I moved to a new address after he had his interview. Which dept. should I call to inform them of my (our) new address? Do I send a form somewhere or just wait until we send in the Adjustment of Status packet? I'm figuring that I should do it before then as the govt. will probably want to know that he will not be at the address we used in the K-1 packet. Any ideas?? Thanks in advance!

  6. ARGH! I posted a while back about how my fiance went for his interview on Thursday, May 22 and our Letters of Intent were not current enough for the interviewer. We sent off updated letters the following Monday. We still have heard nothing from the embassy and Walsh has not received his visa! He called last Friday and they said they were processing and if there were any problems they would let him know. Should we call again at the beginning of next week? I really didn't expect this to take 2 1/2 weeks. We keep expecting the courier any day now. I want to book his flight!! By the way, aren't tickets crazy expensive right now?? Jeez...

  7. Just wondering why he has to bother, all the things you mentoned I have done from the US.

His father will be selling his house for him. He figured that he'd need a power of attorney for his Dad to sign the paperwork.

Thanks for the links!! I have forwarded them to the fiance.

  8. Hi all! I am hoping beyond hope that some brilliant person can help me with this (and yes, I'm kissing up!) In order to expedite my fiance's arrival to the States, he will need to sign over power of attorney to his father for property issues. His Dad will need to sign for him on mortgage/bank type stuff after he's left England. I am in the legal field here in Tennessee and I know that you do not need a lawyer to draw up these documents. In fact, I have drawn them up for our clients, so I have a general idea of the wording. We need to SAVE MONEY and I don't want him to have to pay a solicitor to do this if I can do it for him. Would anyone have a sample of an English Power of Attorney document? Or any information about terminology? Has anyone done tried to do this same thing? Obviously, a sample would be awesome!

    Much Thanks in advance!!

  9. Thanks for the congrats!! It was dated April 19 and the interview was May 22. I really should have thought to date it forward, but at that point we really didn't know when his interview would be. We were face to face so I just went ahead and gave him the original docs and the signed letter to have with him for the interview (instead of mailing them later). He said the woman who interviewed him was a bit difficult (those aren't the words he used...lol).

  10. Hi all! Well, my fiance had the big interview today! We are approved pending my sending a more updated Letter of Intent. I mailed him an original letter of intent and my birth certificate, etc. after he got his packet 3. Well, that was a month ago and the interviewing harpy woman wouldn't accept it. So, I have to get a more updated one over there in a hurry so that they'll release that visa!! Just thought I'd pass that tip along. Also, the only question he got was to describe how we met and they didn't even look at our updated proof of relationship! He was there about 3 hours in all.

  11. I've read through some resources and I am still confused about retention of UK citizenship. My fiance and I have been discussing whether or not he should become naturalized when the time is right. He does not want to revoke UK citizenship. It appears that the UK will allow a person to retain their UK citizenship even if they become a citizen of another country. My question is...When you swear your oath of allegiance when becoming an American citizen do you renounce your UK-ness? Has anyone here from the UK become a US citizen and is still a UK citizen?

    Thanks all!

  12. My fiance received his packet 3 on Saturday and none of the forms he is supposed to send back were enclosed! That's not right, is it? I have emailed him the forms which I hope are the latest versions so that he can get this mailed out asap. Was I wrong to think he would be receiving these?

    Thanks VJers!!

  13. Hey all!

I have done some reading on this subject and I am still a little confused. My fiance has ordered a police certificate (last week) from his local station and paid 10 pounds. The officer said that this was the form he needed and yadda yadda. I had seen the ACPO link and I thought that was what we were supposed to use. Assuming we will have our interview before August (I read that they will supposedly accept the old certificates up until then), and the certificate will be valid this whole time, is the local station certificate ok to use?? Should I order an ACPO too or is that just being way too ####### retentive? I really don't want to make a misstep with something that should be pretty easy. What's the consensus on this subject?? Thanks!!

  14. I'm sure this question has been asked before, but I'm having trouble locating the old threads....

My fiance is meeting me in New York in April for a little romantic getaway. I am worried that since we have filed our I129F that he could possibly be turned away upon entry in Newark. Does anyone have any advice as to what kind of evidence he should carry to show he will return to England or for how to handle the questions the officers may ask? He will likely carry my itinerary for my visit to England in May to show that I am coming to see him. He is self-employed so he doesn't have pay stubs to present. The last thing I want is to be in NYC alone for the weekend!!!!!

    Thanks ya'll!!!

  15. the judges say you should post it here for review.

Er.....I don't know if I could handle the amusement of my fellow vjers, too! I haven't heard from the fiance yet. I can't wait to hear what he thought of it. If it was good, I might have a new career???

And yes, we do crazy things for love! I'm meeting up with my fiance in New York City in April for 2 days. He is flying from Manchester, England to see me for 2 days!!

  16. Are we talking about naughty-good or naughty-bad? I hope I did something naughty last night. I wrote and emailed my first ever erotic story to my fiance (Gotta do somethin' people!!) I had no idea how hard it would be to find words to describe certain body parts and not sound like a complete moron. So, he'll either think it's naughty-good or he'll be laughing the rest of the evening!!
