    As an update, once he applied through the district Garda station, the process took less than 2 weeks. Thank you all for the help and advice.

    Hi all, my daughter is currently sponsoring her Croatian husband who currently lives in Ireland. Their petition was approved, and they moved to the next step where he needed the background check, he got the Croation translated copy within a couple of weeks, but the Irish background check seems to be taking forever. At this point it has been 3 months since he submitted the first request at his local Garda station which when he checked a month later, was told they could not find the application and so he applied again. We are now two months later, with no movement. Is this normal for Ireland, is there anywhere he can go to escalate his request? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Patrick
