Updating my timeline...

Had a successful interview today.

Civic questions:

1. What does the President's cabinet do?

2. How many justices are on the Supreme Court?

3. If both the President and the Vice President can no longer serve, who becomes President?

4. How many amendments does the Constitution have?

5. Name one branch or part of the government.

6. What did the declaration of Independence do?

Reading test...choose 1 out of 3 questions

-When is Columbus day?

Writing test...IO told me to write...

-Columbus day is in October.

Done in ten minutes. The IO gave me the approval letter and told me that there is an Oath taking ceremony today but unfortunate that they do not have the same day schedule. She let us go back to the waiting lounge to wait for an Oath sched. letter, for August 22nd.

BTW, the IO allowed my husband inside the room.

You need to contact the USCIS and they will open a case to the local office. I applied on April 22nd and i didn't receive the FP letter, so i called them on and they asked me if it passed 30 days since priority date, i said yes. After that lady on the phone and gave a Case # and said that she send a request to the local office and they should contact you within 30. A week later i received FP letter in the mail.

I agree with nab400... I also called USCIS for my PF sched...I sent in my application on 4/26, it was over a month and I didn't receive any Biometric appointment letter. Two days after I called them, they sent me the letter which I received 6/9 for 6/15 sched. (thanks for the 5 day window). I walked in early on 6/10, got my FP and on 6/14 my status changed to inline sched for interview.

BTW, I just came back to VJ after 2yr. break...finally was able to update my timeline! Anyone please add me to April filer's list (don't want to mess up the organized filers list). Thank you, I appreciate.

Toroku Gempyo is apply for any registered document. ex. Kon-in Todoke (marriage certificate)

Do you mean Gaikokujin Toroku Gempyo Kisai Shomei?

That's the Alien Registration Certificate that you need to get from the municipal hall where you resides. It shown all the informations from your first entry- re-entry to Japan, places you lived etc. You need to show your Alien Registration card and passport to get this certificate.

Hi Justin and Masako,

I haven't read all your previous posts yet, but with regards to your wife's Social Insurance (Shakai Hoken) not Pension (Nenkin)? which I assumed is automatically being deducted from her monthly salary is no need to pay once she quits job and comes to the state. While Pension (Nenkin) for future guarantee is your wife's choice whether she wants to continue paying or not.

In replacement for her Social Insurance although with less benifits like hospitalization she can apply for a National Health Insurance (Kokumin Kenko Hoken) which she only needs to pay 3000yen/month if she declared she's jobless. I started paying this amount since June.

I hope you two will be united soon. It has been a long wait, but now you are close to the finish line. Did you guys get the ticket already?

No, not yet. We still need to figure out an exact date and that kind of depends on some other things like packing and shipping of her things and some tax and other government paperwork she needs to do. We are shooting for late September, maybe the 24th but we aren't 100% sure yet.

I hope everything is going well for you and your wife!

What kinda tax and other government things is she doing before she leaves? I want to make sure my fiance is aware of some of the things she needs to do before she leaves Japan.

She has to pay up the remainder of her taxes (as they get paid month by month the year after apparently) and file some paperwork about moving with the tax agency and her locality. Also she has to do something related to social insurance, which we have to continue to pay even though she will be in the US. About $140 a month in her case. I think she had mentioned some other things as well but I don't remember what. I can ask though, and I may have gotten some of this wrong so you should do your own research into the matter. Hope this helps as a starting point though.

Sorry, was soooo busy didn't have time to open my PC. I'm here still alive. :whistle:

Actually, we were sitting behind you at the Embassy.

Got the visa two days later, arrived in US August 18th. POE in Seattle, although there was an hour and a half wait in the line POE was painless just like the interview. The only question asked was what is my address in US.

By the way, you're the sweetest couple I've seen at the Embassy. :star:

Well the only one I haven't heard from for the August 11th interviews is Sarudoshi. Maybe I just missed it though. I am not sure who's interviews might have been on this last Monday, but surely there were some here.
What part of Hawaii are you from? We were married in Kauai on Lydgate Beach.

It's quiet a while.

No, no, I only paid 15,000 for the missing vaccine. So, the total for my med. was 60,000. :whistle:

I went to Tokyo Medical Clinic, just infront of Tokyo Tower. The service was good, no wait, but I paid 60,000 yen coz I was missing one vaccine. I was sweating in pain not because of the vacc. but because of the bill , too expensive

60,000 yen for ONE vaccine? Ouch!!!

I feel for you, and boy do I hope we aren't missing that vaccine!

Do you know if it was just one or did they give you a combo of all of them?

I went to Tokyo Medical Clinic, just infront of Tokyo Tower. The service was good, no wait, but I paid 60,000 yen coz I was missing one vaccine. I was sweating in pain not because of the vacc. but because of the bill :whistle: , too expensive :crying:

The medical was at the Catholic Hospital in Tokyo, if you need more details let me know, my wife won't be back home until Wednesday. It's not a one day service. Appoinment is for one day in the morning ( for example ) and pick up of docs at 5 p.m. the next day. I remember she said, afternoon appointment and pick up of docs two days later in the morning. Again, costs ( for us ) was $ 495.00 ).

There is one there that offers same day service, but its loads extra. Unfortunately that's the way we have to go since my wife lives in Nara and the Kobe office wouldn't get us the results before our interview. So its an expensive appointment plus the shinkansen fare (~$120 each way). We are looking at a possible total cost of about $940 for two together. I am not sure which it is that offers that, I know there are three places you can go in Tokyo but if anyone is interested I can ask my wife about it.

We also didn't have an issue with her visiting me during our I-130. She came in at Minneapolis, St. Paul International (MSP).

Quick update. My wife found an appointment rescheduler on the Japanese language Tokyo embassy page, which does
not show up on the English language site ( that's strange isn't it? ). Anyway, I sent an e-mail and voila, 1 hour later I

received confirmation that our appointment has been rescheduled for July 28, We are definitely very, very pleased :thumbs:

When I sent a Choice of agent e-mail to NVC. I included all the petitioner and benificiary's telefax. nos. and e-mail addresses.

This got me thinking, where on the paperwork does it show my e-mail address to communicate with? I looked at the DS-230, but I can't find it. NVC must have it, since we communicated. But I am not sure if that becomes part of the record. So I am not sure if my lawyer ever put my address anywhere. Bummer. A week or two earlier for the interview would be nice instead of 40 days waiting.

Same here, husband received an appoinment letter from NVC on July 3rd but at the same time received an e-mail from Embassy that our interview is re-scheduled on August 11. :thumbs:

NVC AVR(automated voice response system) changed from "CASE COMPLETE" to "YOUR CASE HAS BEEN FORWARDED TO EMBASSY/CONSULATE in TOKYO on JUNE 25, 2008...PLEASE CONTACT THE EMBASSY FOR FURTHER QUESTION"....

I called NVC and asked what was been forwarded, operator said all the documents submitted to them were sent to TOKYO thru DHL.

I wander if there is a separate instruction packet from the Embassy to be sent, at this point I'm only expecting the appoinment letter. But to play safe ,probably better have all the orig. docs. available during the interview.

Let's keep posting for any update.

sarudoshi, one question for you. How did you find out that the docs were forwarded to the embassy and the date?
As far as docs are concerned, the way I read it, it is required that everything that was sent to NVC is again available

in originals at the interview. This excludes the police report. So, we are getting all Japanese docs like birth certificate,

wedding certificate etc. again from City hall, just in case.

Are there any other documents need to bring to the interview aside from med. exam result. As far as I remember all original documents were submitted to NVC and they forwarded it to the Embassy. Am I missing something :innocent: ?

Any info. will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I just heard that my wife passed her interview today at the tokyo embassy. i haven't gotten the details yet, but it was a very long wait (couple of hours) followed by a very short and easy interview. the interviewer (conducted in english) asked just a question of where and what the husband does for work. that's it. although she brought many documents and proof of relationship, no additional documentation or evidence was requested. very cool.

Unfortunately, I also don't understand how NVC schedules interview. I was thinking it's the priority date (non-sense) when an applicant submitted the I130 but I was still ten days ahead from Jason True's application. He's just lucky to get a week earlier interview :thumbs:

My husband called NVC, talked to an operator and found out the interview date, he wants to make a flight arrangement and show up to the interview :innocent:

Again, this is not good news. How can someone figure out why a completion date of June 12 ( sarudoshi ) gets an August 25, yet a June 19 completion ( JasonTrue ) gets an August 18 interview. How do these people work? I have a question for you : Did you find out about this by calling the NVC phone line? I am in Thailand now and waiting for an e-mail from NVC, which of course is not at all speedy. Waiting for 7 days now for a response.
