  1. Well unfortunately things aren't working out the way we planned or hoped. After trying to reconcile some things, we are thinking that separation is the next step. With the lack of jointly owned things or assets, what is the course to take? For example, I own both vehicles (titled solely to me) which have no payments. The apartment is in a "live here and be good" lease-less agreement. We don't have any joint bank accounts or any "shared" debt of any kind. As far as I know and can recognize, there is very little if any shared assets between us.

  2. We were approved, but pending submission of our employment letters. We both started working since we first submitted the AOS packet, so once we get the letters in within the next 2-3 days, then he will stamp it and send out the green card. We waited for an hour, but after we sat down and were sworn in, it was in/out after like 7 questions. We didn't even OPEN the folder with our information, proof, etc. Happy but kind of bugged that all the prep work went to waste :( YAY!!!

    Updated timeline too.

  3. I know the interview notice is given to individuals entering via different methods (visas), but the duplication is a bit annoying. In three different areas, the same is asked of the US Citizen. I feel as though I'm forgetting something, but it asks that I bring my birth certificate and proof of citizenship like twice. Oh the anxiety....really, when I step back and read the list and then check my folder, its not as much paperwork as I imagined.

  4. As I imagine that the question has been asked at least a dozen times this month alone, is there a useful/general list that "translates" the Interview notice?

I figure that most of the list requests official documentation like current passport, any travel documents, etc, but where I am confused is regarding some of the

more obscure things like "All documentation establishing your eligibility for LPR status"...what on Earth does that mean?

Like I said, I'm not looking to carry out another thread on this, so if someone (ideally from Canada) would either PM or point me to a recent thread that deals with this, it'd be appreciated.

  5. She is leaving tomorrow for a short visit home to Canada. Got an important question regarding her passport situation.

Currently, she has one in her maiden name and while she is home, she intends to get one in her married name. According to Canadian passport rules,

you have to surrender your old one before they will give you the new one. Her old one (maiden name) has the I-94 and K-1 Visa inside.

We need both these documents for our interview on June 1st. Can we simply remove those pages with them attached or what should we do? Please help asap.

  6. Another update

Well, the gentleman, who was a nice guy for working at the DMV (people seem to loathe these offices), put her maiden name on her FL driver's license.

Her SSN has her married name, her EAD has her married name, her Canadian passport has her maiden name, and her Canadian DL has her maiden name.

Which piece of ID is the DMV most concerned with regarding her name? I thought it would have been her EAD. Is it worth the hassle/time to wait and try to get that corrected or

did the gentleman simply following the letter of the law and put the name he saw as being the "legal" one?

  7. Update

Made it to the DMV this afternoon and it all went smoothly. She had all her ID's/proofs/etc with her and she was asked for SSN, EAD, passport, and Canadian license. He made copies of them all and she got a sheet titled "Temporary Driving Permit" with her DL # on it. The card will be mailed in 2 weeks, pending verification of all the information. Glad it went smoothly :)

  8. Maybe every state's DMV is just as confusing, but on the FL DMV website, there is this statement:

Original Driver License or Identification Card Florida law requires identification, proof of date of birth, proof of residential address, and proof of social security number from all customers before a driver license or identification card can be issued. The name assigned to the social security number must match the name that will appear on the Florida driver license or identification card. If you have recently changed your name, update your records with the Social Security Administration before you apply for your license or identification card.

I read that as needing a Canadian birth certificate, a bank statement with her current address, her Social Security card, and her current Canadian license. Am I mistaken? The "greeter" at the local DMV told us that the license would be granted in her married name so long as the piece of US government-issued ID was valid. Her EAD which she just got is what we will use and the license will be valid for 1 year, correct?

All Canadian citizens will be issued an original or renewal driver license for one calendar year from the date of issue.
  9. Hate to dig up an old thread, but this is relevant. When applying online to make an appointment, FL DMV has three status selections:

    U.S. Citizen

    Immigrant(Resident Alien)

    Non-Immigrant(Non-Resident Alien or Visitor)

She currently has her EAD and AP but still waiting on GC pending AOS approval, so I have read that the EAD is what will suffice for government ID. Which selection should I choose then?

  10. I've been checking the mail everyday now for any sign of USCIS mail. I'm a little worried because both her AP & EAD were approved on the same day, but

one took an extra week to arrive. I wonder if our mail is getting sucked into some sort of USPS "black hole" along the way. We and Yves seem to be the only

ones in our "block" on the spreadsheet who haven't received any interview notice. The rest of ya'll seem to have moved along nicely.

  11. I think they maybe meant how long it took to get the appointment letter...

Quick question, is there anything my wife needs to be here for if she were to travel back to Canada? She needs to take care of things

at home and we don't have the AP yet. We were thinking of sending her back anyway and when it comes, I will mail it to her. Should

she stay here instead or is there only "waiting" between biometrics and AP/EAD arrival or interview?
