  1. Hi y'all. I just found this site and am thankful to have some info on the carta blanca rumors as I haven't been able to verify anything that my boyfriend has heard in cuba in the past month- whether it be rumor or not. I've always assumed it was the latter.

However, yesterday he was on the bus and encountered an immigration official who assured him that the Carta Blanca system was now over. I'm still doubtful, but we'll be checking it out and I'll keep any updates posted.

My fiance's cousin works for immigration in Pinar del Rio and the Carta Blanca is still in place. No news yet as to when it will be removed.

  2. He has everything submitted to Vivienda, just waiting on the inspector to come to the house, he's going to pass by today to see how the process is going. He is also waiting for a letter from his school today saying he doesnt owe anything and they were supposed to have it for him a week ago, so he finally got fed up and is going today and said he is not leaving until he gets it, that is the last paper he needs to hand into immigration. They told him he would receive a card in the mail that he needed to take to immigration and that once he got the white slip from Vivienda he can buy his plane ticket, so lets see after today what is going on. I'm anxious for him to get it already because I am planning a trip on the 13th of June and returning 16th of June, only going for the weekend and I really want him to come back with me.

oh my gosh you must be on pins and needles. that is good he will go to the school and just wait for them to produce it. i guess he has nothing better to do, and nothing more important to focus on than getting his final papers in order!

good luck in making the deadline -- i hope he can be on the plane with you!

Well he finally got the school letter yesterday. All we have to wait for is the inspector for vivienda and a card that he is supposed to receive in the mail which he has to take to immigration. This is so stressful!

  3. It all depends if you're on the ball submitting all the necessary paperwork. From what I know, it may take 2 to 4 weeks. Also be prepared to plan ahead and buy airfare as quick as possible...

Does anyone know how long it takes to get the carta blance?

i feel like i've heard of some folks getting it in about a week, other places have said allow up to 4 weeks. I'm doing an internal plan to hope for 5 weeks max, including preparing the paperwork to submit.

and as usual, it is probably different in different cities/provinces.

where are you in the process now?

  4. I talked to my fiance yesterday and when he was at the consulate picking up his visa a woman that was also there waiting told him they were removing the carta blanca on the 15th of this month. This is just speculation right now but he is going to immigration tomorrow to find out if this is true and I will post what he finds out. His cousin works with immigration so he should be able to get pretty accurate information.

Ok my fiance went to immigration today and you still need the carta blanca, what a pain.

  7. That's fantastic!

    How did the interview go?

Please give us some information and details so we can all be more prepared!

    Thanks, and best wishes!

Ok so he WAS APPROVED!!!!!!!!!!!!! I spoke with him yesterday and he said they let everyone in about 8am and then he had to hand in all the paperwork to be checked and the bottom half of the DS-156K was filled out for him and he had to sign infront of the employ checking the paperwork. Then they got called in by groups of 15 into another waiting area where they were called to be interviewed. When it was his turn they called his name and he had an American gentleman interview him who told him to speak Spanish slowly because he had only taken a 6 month course. Then he started asking him questions about how we met, how many times I had traveled to Cuba, when was the last time we saw each other, if he was part of "La Juventud", also I had faxed a letter to them requesting that they move up his appointment because my mom needs brain surgery, so they asked him what my mom suffered from that she needed surgery. Also, in that letter I accidentally wrote the word husband instead of fiance and they questioned him about whether we were married or not, so if any of you ever email or fax them be careful what you write because they defenitly keep records of that stuff. Then after all the questioning he told him congratulations he was approved and that he needed to come back the following day at 2pm to pick up his passport with his visa. I am so excited!!! All we need is the final step, la carta blanca, and he is here!!!

I want to thank everyone on this site who helped me get through this long process and for posting their experiences which helped me a lot in getting ready for all of this and I wish everybody luck who is still waiting.

  8. I give up I think, I have been trying to call the 1800 # to see if they have sooner appts, Ive called the consulate, Ive emailed, and faxed, and no luck.

Has anyone had any luck with this?

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!! I CANT BELIEVE IT!!!! I was ready to give up and yesterday I decided to give it one last try. I called the 1-800 number to try for the last time to see if they had a cancellation and THEY DID!!!!!!!!! His new interview is this MONDAY!!! I cant believe it. Ive called 3 times just to confirm the appointment. Im still in shock. I am so happy, so for anyone trying to get their appointment sooner DONT GIVE UP!!!!!!!!!!

  9. Good luck, and it looks like your interview is the same week as ours! Are you planning to be there? Maybe we should get together for a pre- or post-interview de-briefing!

I wasn't planning on being there since there is so many costs already in getting him here, and I would have to go through a 3rd country since I was there last November and I went through Miami. I wouldn't want that causing an issue since I would technically be going "illegally"

  10. Ok this question is for anyone who applied for a K-1 Visa for Havana, Cuba because it works different in Cuba.

I received my I-129F approval letter, then I received the letter from NVC with the case number, I called the 1-800 number and scheduled my fiance's appointment and its July 7, 2008. Now if I call the NVC they say I don't have an appt scheduled and my fiance has not received anything in the mail or been contacted. Am I missing something?? I have read other posts regarding the IV bill fee being received and package 3 being received, I don't have any of that.

I downloaded the forms he needs online and we have everything done, can someone please give me advice or give me some insight into the process because I'm worried we did something wrong. THanks
