According to the Department of State website, they shouldn't, but do they follow these guidelines? Anybody have experience with this? Specifically HoChiMinh Consulate?

In regards to my case, my joint sponsor filed taxes jointly with his spouse but she didn’t earn income. So I didn’t add her to the I-864 or submit an I-864A as many people suggested I do. However I did have his spouse fill out an I-864A and took it with me to the interview in case they asked for it. They did not so I did not give it to them and we got approved no problem. This happens to a lot of people.
Ok. Good idea. Thank you!

The I-864 instructions say adding a household member is not required if sponsor has sufficient income. But I’m hearing a lot of people say the Embassy will ask for household member I-864A if sponsor filed taxes jointly. Is this true in your case?
I don’t think the spouse of the sponsor should not be forced to fill out a I-864A. Some people say the sponsor’s spouse can fill out the I-864A but just write $0 for income earned, but that is essentially false because she did earn. It just confuses the matter.
I don’t want this to delay my case.
