In regards to my case, my joint sponsor filed taxes jointly with his spouse but she didn’t earn income. So I didn’t add her to the I-864 or submit an I-864A as many people suggested I do. However I did have his spouse fill out an I-864A and took it with me to the interview in case they asked for it. They did not so I did not give it to them and we got approved no problem. This happens to a lot of people.

    Ok. Good idea. Thank you!

  2. The I-864 instructions say adding a household member is not required if sponsor has sufficient income. But I’m hearing a lot of people say the Embassy will ask for household member I-864A if sponsor filed taxes jointly.  Is this true in your case?

I don’t think the spouse of the sponsor should not be forced to fill out a I-864A. Some people say the sponsor’s spouse can fill out the I-864A but just write $0 for income earned, but that is essentially false because she did earn. It just confuses the matter.

I don’t want this to delay my case.
