I have filed my 2021 and 2022 married and using all 9's for my spouse social security number and both returns were accepted and they are loaded in the IRS website to obtain as transcripts without issue.  I did try to apply for an iTIN for my spouse and the application which I submitted in February 2022 it's still being worked on my the IRS in Austin and still not issued.  Call it crazy but I no longer need the ITIN.

Thanks I will do the same, I tried to add 0,s but it refused. I will check the way you did.

If I am not mistaken ITIN works only year and each year you need to renew it, the fact that you still don’t get the ITIN you applied back in February is crazy.

That just isn't true.  "Married filing separately" is available.  As a tax issue, you cannot legally file as single if you are married.  There is no immigration issue at NVC.

You might want to amend your tax return once your spouse has a SSN.

If I'm not mistaken, when you file your tax return, even if you're married filing separately, you'll need your spouse's SSN or ITIN. If that is the case, and my spouse is outside the country, and I can't receive a W7, which is the form used to apply for an ITIN since the spouse is not in the country, how can you file Married filing separate? At that time of filling the tax return, the system does not permit me. I attempted to bypass the SSN box, but the system would to let me.
Please advise on how I can do that.
    thanks.

  3. Hello, I filled out an I-130 for my overseas spouse, and this year I filed a single tax return because I couldn't add her because she doesn't have an SSN or ITIN, and when I looked at my IRS tax record, it only showed my name. My question is if there will be a problem when I send my Affidavit of Support to NVC, or whether they would just check to see if I reach the normal limit above the poverty level.
