At your wife's spousal visa interview in Colombia, about 14 months after filing the I-130 petition if all goes well, you will need to provide evidence of sufficient, current, US-based income to sponsor her, or have a joint sponsor lined up.  Also you'll need to provide evidence of US domicile.  Do more research on these two issues so that you are prepared when the time comes.  There is nothing fast about this process, be prepared for a long wait.  Good luck!

    Thank you so much!

People can apply for anything.  B2 is a visitor visa alright but the chances of a spouse of a US Citizen successfully applying for one are slim and none.  A person with immigrant intent is, by definition, not qualified to receive a non-immigrant visa.  There are some rare exceptions made but not simply because, "She wants to visit."

    Thank you for the warning.

just know you need to file tax returns even for the time out of the states

    over $100,000 foreign income exempt

but tax transcripts are asked for to complete the process

some just use a W2 and letter from employer to show current income

but you still need to file

    Thank you.

You could file now and you could delay at the NVC stage. Only thing is having the mailing address before hand

    Thank you.

  5. or you can buy stickers from ebay for three dollars and save the room in her suitcase. better yet, she can go to any computer store in her city and buy them for 10-20 rubles before she leaves.

You might want to grab a Russian/English keyboard...it made my wife's transition much easier.

How do you say "stickers with Cyrillic characters" po rusky? Spasiva...

  6. Again I would like to thank you for your very informative answers and for the advise. I have an update. I spoke to my future stepson, he with soda and I with piwo, and I explained to him the importance of getting the green card. We agreed that he will be here for one year to get his AOS and to finish his second high school year and then we will evaluate the whole thing for his mother to decide what to do. His grandparents (Masha's parents) would take care of him with our financial support.

Once I heard that our generation is the last one to hope for our parents approval, and also the first one to also hope for our children's approval. Probably a philosophical, sociological, psychological, but definitely not very logical an issue. I am a hardliner. I don't believe in bribes for children although one can argue that bribes are the lubricant that makes the wheels of XXI Century turn. I spoke with him the way I speak with my daughters: these are the issues, this is what is good for you, take it or leave it. I didn't promise him a car or even the last model of the skate boards that he loves so much. Yet, he would have to work hard in school. Our house, our rules.

Again, I know that you offered me your most sincere advise and I want to thank you very much for it.

  7. Thank you all for your kind answers. Yes, the boy is being manipulative and his reasons are childish (he has a new friend :crying:). However he is not stupid and eventually he will try to come. When and how are the questions. If after six months, I don't think I will be able to go through this again. I believe, the best is for him to come now, get his green card and then decide what to do. If I were in charge ... let's not get there. Thank you again for your kind and informative answers.

  8. If I understand correctly, Masha and her son have just had their interview and were told that they would receive their K-1 and K-2 visas respectively. Is that correct?

If so, there is no need to worry about the appearance of having misled the Consulate to get an early interview date. Things can change. Congrats, by the way, on getting the interview date moved up. Good to know that the Consulate is still willing to be accomodating to such circumstances.

So, now they should be receiving their visas soon. While they certainly don't have to travel to the U.S. together or at the same time, unless I'm mistaken, they both only have 6 months (from the date of visa issuance) to enter the U.S. using these visas. And, they are single entry visas. If he comes over and goes right back (before even getting AP), then it could be very difficult (and many years later) for him to come back to the U.S.

IMHO, a decision needs to be made (by your fiancee) as to where her son is going to live, and it needs to be made very quickly.

    JMO.....I could be wrong.

Yes, they will receive K1 and K2 respectively. Thank you for the congrats and for the advise. At least is good to know, like fwaguy and you said, that she can travel on her own.

  9. Friends,

It seems everything went well during the visa interview for my Masha and her son. I will add a review later. But a new development has surfaced. The 15 y/o boy does not want to come to the US. What to do? We checked in the application that they will come together. What will happen if only she shows up at the port of entry? Will they allow the boy to come by himself on a later date?

Of course I could ask directly to the Embassy what to do, but there is one more piece for this riddle: Initially we were given an interview date for August, but because I claim the boy would start school August 18 here, they moved the interview to today (July 10). We don't want the embassy to think that we used the boy for the sole purpose to move the interview earlier (we swear we didn't).

I see some "hardliners" raising their eyebrows saying that a 15 y/o boy has only one option and initially I would agree with that. This is not the point of this email, but to ask if you know what the consequences are. One possibility would be for she and her son to come together and he going back to Russia before September 1st (when classes start there). But can he be back before we get married? Can he be back before AOS?

In Russia the boy would live with his grandparents.

    Thank you.

  10. But like Slim says, vaccinations are NOT needed for visa but will be needed for AOS. The question is of course, do we want to pay in strong rubles or in weak dollars?

Regardless of how weak the dollar is, it's still going to cost you more to get it done here; healthcare is SO much more expensive in the U.S.

We had to get a lab test done and one shot. Even at the public health clinic the shot was still $28. Luckily insurance covered the lab work so we didn't have to pay anything for that but I'd venture to say you could get it all done for one price in Russia if you talk to the right person at the clinic. "I need this shot, this shot, this shot and I need it all documented on this form. That's what, $28?"

The lab test was for the chicken pox (varicella antibodies test) so just make sure it's documented on the form as well. "She got a chcikn pox when childhood." (Doesn't have to be perfect English, just as long as the Indian guy working at the clinic can read it.)

Well, this is nice. Masha has her medical exam in 35 minutes... Chicken pox is NOT required by the list from the Moscow US embassy web site. She has all vaccinations that they require in that list, and again, chicken pox is not one of them. Maybe for the AOS... arghhh :crying: r u sure?

  11. Steven,

FYI. My Masha called IOM and they charge US$20 extra for the DS 3025 per person: ($100 for exam+$20 for form) x number of people.

Please share as much as possible about your fiancee's medical experience. Masha has hers on Tuesday at IOM.

    Best,

    Javier

    Javier,

So does the clinic have the actual form? My SO will be going to IOM tomorrow (change of plans) and was unable to get the DS-3025 form printed out. Best case would be that they have the form and she has her vaccinations done then and the form filled out.

Does anyone know where I can find exactly what vaccinations are required? According to the Medical Exam pdf on the embassy website it sounds like she just needs tetanus-diphtheria, measles, mumps, and rubella. I will let everyone know how it goes. Thanks!

    Steven

    Steven,

I am assuming they have the form at IOM. I think your vaccinations list is as complete as mine. We got it from http://moscow.usembassy.gov/vaccinations.html But like Slim says, vaccinations are NOT needed for visa but will be needed for AOS. The question is of course, do we want to pay in strong rubles or in weak dollars?

Good luck and share with us please... Javier

Well, she had the exam with no problems, I will talk to her later about it and share. If you have any specific questions get them in now :)

    Yes.

    1) The form?

    2) Were they nice and professional?

    Thank you and congrats.

    1. They gave her a record of her vaccinations in English, I do not believe they had the actual forms there with them.

    2. She said they were "bureaucratic" i.e. professional and brusque and that things took longer than she thought. She picked up her results the next day. Nothing untoward happened.

Thank you. Masha's big days are Tuesday and Thursday.

    Regards,

    Javier

  14. Dear Group :help: ,

My Masha, always creative (F) , claims she would need apostille translation (?) of

certificates (birth and divorce). I told her  no but I promise to ask in the

forum  . In case this makes a difference: She has a boy who will start

high school this year here. Your replies are very very very appreciated.

    Thank you

  15. kak skasash "dumplings maker" po ruski? Hoo! My accents sucks even when I write, so...

how do you say "dumplings maker" in the language of Dostoievski? ;)

We have something called a "pilmineetsa" which is loosely translated as "pilminy maker." It's a plastic circle with 36 holes in it to cover with dough, insert meat, cover with dough again, and then "make" the pilminy by pressing them through the little circles. Works great, but I still have to knead the farsh because I have strong arms. Time to introduce the electric mixer.....

I don't know if dumplings would be pilminy or vereniki or whatever else you have at your house. It's pretty much all the same stuff.... one's just a little bigger than the other and doesn't have a "malinkaya popka" built in.

    Thank you very much.
