  1. When going thru JFK my husband and I both went in the non us citizen line together. Make sure you request your temp EAD stamp! It will be valid for 90 days! If you don't ask you won't get it! Once we made it thru we were sent to the immigration office behind the. Customs agents cubicle. It scared me but they didn't do anything but take our package from us and then we were fee to go on. All you need is your package your passports and whatever they give you to fill out on plane. Make sure you fill it out the entire form! I saw a lot of people who didn't do so and it pissed the agents off! Airline doesn't matter you all end up in the same place! It is up to the customs agent to determine whether your husband is free to enter! This would be rare if it happened! If you are with him it definitely won't happen!

    Good luck!

    Hi everybody,

Hope your DCF is going well. I have a few questions about the JFK point of entry for CR1-ers...

    1. Do we both go into the same line? If we do, do we go to the window together? (My husband gets a little nervous sometimes)

    2. Which documents do we need?

    3. Does the airline that we choose matter? We can do either Delta or Turkish Airlines.

    4. Can they NOT let my husband in? Is that something to worry about?

    Thanks guys! :luv:

  3. Have you been to the Ankara Consulate website??? Let me warn you - they are horrible at following procedure! We never got an interview letter. I had emailed the consulate and asked them if they could take into consideration that my father was dying and we would like to all be together for his last Christmas. I was asking only for an interview BEFORE Xmas. They responded and said- CONSIDER THIS YOUR NOTICE- January 8, 10 am appt. That was it- they never sent him anything. WHEN THEY ASK if he wants his interview in English or Turkish - TELL THEM ENGLISH- you are going to get it in English anyway. My husband said Turkish and boy was he sorry. Hope you don't get a Chinese American woman- She is a total B*TCH! We are still waiting for his visa they say another 4 to 6 months! Anyway, this woman is MEAN- She asked Zeki why he doesn't have a Turkish girlfriend and WHY did he HAVE to have an American.... Insinuated that his mother hated me and that he hated his country. Its really crazy. He said he could not wait to get back to Istanbul. He just wanted to cry. WE are going thru security clearances now.

We applied in early June- 2007 It may be a full year before he steps on US soil. I'm leaving for Turkey in a few days- ( every 3 months! )

I wish you the best of luck.

  4. OK EVERYONE READ THIS AND TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK. USCIS INTEROFFICE MEMO dated 2/4/08 REVISION to the 180 day FBI CHECK. 180 day limit still applies on your end- however once the 180 days is reached you can address them on this policy and they are to approve you until FBI gives them information to start a removal process. They are supposed to issue your card right away.

Here's the link to the policy!

  5. sipues,

First let me say you need to make absolutely certain this is not a language barrier, and it is not just because of the different languages that you are misinterpreting things. Sometimes I will make a statement to my fiancee, and he understands me to say something different than what I meant. At first I always asked him if he understood me when he got quiet. I would explain things to him if he told me he did not. As time has passed, we do alot better understanding one another, however we still occassionally have times one of us does not understand the statement the other has made. We just keep asking each other to explain until we get it right. Sometimes it is frustrating, and others it is just a matter of changing a word or two to complete the communication.

Maybe the communication is not as lengthy in other cultures as ours, however contradicting statements are the same in any language. If this is the case, and it is not because of the language difference, then I would view this as a moral and personal value issue, not a cultural issue. I wouldn't care if the person were white, black, yellow, or green, it is not ok in any culture to be deceitful with statements one is making.

If this is an infrequent occurance, it could be that it is simply a misunderstanding between the languages. She may be getting frustrated because she did not understand what you said to begin with.

I wish you luck with this.

  6. I was reading threads, some of the post says that, they got stuck with their Name check or FBI check process in their GC process.

How did they findout this? I wanted to findout whether my GC application is being delyed by because of the FBI background check or my Name check.

    Any help regarding this.

    Thanks

If you have already had your interview you are told that you will be going through security clearance that will delay your case. We thought all of that was done prior to interview- were we shocked!!!! We waited 5 months for approval and then have this interview- come to find out it can take up to 2 years for it to be completed! Have you been approved yet?

  7. I'm filing for dec just getting all of the papers together and making sure everything is correct!! If I file in dec do you think i'll get him over here to stay before may? I really want him to be here for my birthday he has never been there for any of mine ! :o *fingers crossed* lol

Its almost been a year since I first sent in my application!!! WE thought it would be months. I spent most of last year with him in Turkey and it's been almost a year since we filed. We have been approved and had interview but it can be another 1-2 years before they are done with our case- Dont expect ANYTHING!! thats all I can say!

I think I iwll be moving to Turkey to wait out the process~

  8. Just to start off my name is Jesse and I'm engaged to Sarah. Sarah and I met in the USA - she was actually one of my first customers at my business. Eventually after a wonderful relationship in the states, Sarah had to go back to South Africa (her visa expired). We decided it was best for her to go home to see her family and friends. It would also give us time to think about our feelings for one another. We also did not want her to stay illegally and ruin our chances of her coming back!

Sarah left on May 25th of 2007 (hardest thing ever). After a lot of phone calls, I arrived in South Africa rom the end of August to the beginning of September where I asked her to marry me. I arrived home on September 11th. After arriving home I found an immigration lawyer. I didn't want to do it alone. Joe has been a fantastic lawyer, worked for the government, and able to let me ask questions and get stressed out! Very important!

The good news in the beginning. We sent out the entire visa application on September 21st 2007. On October 3rd, I was reading the reports on receipt delays and was so stressed that we could just have to wait months for the receipt and to even start the process - that night I checked the mailbox and there was the receipt! I was shocked. I cried, so happy knowing that the road to getting Sarah back had truly started. I was also amazed at the speed of the receipt. Was that normal? The receipt was dated received on October 1st - we received a receipt in a week from the Vermont Service Center?

Waiting! It's been exactly 60 days since we received the receipt not any word. When I check online it states case received and pending. What would we receive next? I did speak to the lawyer recently and he sounded optimistic. He stated that he wouldn't be surprised if we heard very soon about an approval. I don't know though...I'm beginning to get very sad about the process. However, I had another great experience with Sarah. I flew back over to South Africa from 10/16/07 to 11/13/07 - ALMOST A WHOE MONTH THERE! It helped cut a month out of this long process..much needed.

I hope everyone enjoyed our story. I like this site so I signed up today to talk to others, help myself calm down about the process, and learn more. Best of luck to everyone today with visa stuff.

    Time line:

    Lawyer mailed 129f package - September 21, 2007

Vermont received and sent receipt - October 1, 2007.....only 5-6 business days!

    Now waiting on approval...

Im assuming you have received your approval by now. It took me almost 5 months to get mine. I thought it was so wonderful!!!! thinking the hard part was over... it hadn't even begun! WE are now into our 4th month of administrative processing after the interview. It could be up to 2 years before we hear anything else. I hope you are a hell of a lot luckier than we were!!!! Luck to you! Let me know how your progress is!

  9. Processing dates only reflect the ESTIMATED TIME it will take to complete your type of case. FOr Instance if your case is estimated generally to be completed in 6 months - Like K1 visas are- then it will say 6 months if a date is listed of January 18th, 2006 - that means they are waaaay behind and are just finishing a case that was filed on that day. so you would be looking at your case to be completed a year from now if todays date was January 18.

  10. I expected my husband here by Christmas the latest Never heard of going through clearance - Everyone we knew took less than 3 months to enter US. But he had his interview and was told it would be 4-6 weeks - BULL #######! More like 4- 8 months if we are lucky.

WE believe nothing anyone says anymore!

I think I will move to Istanbul first before he is allowed to enter here! .

WE are miserable and the not knowing is so hard on a marriage!
