  1. FAQ: 5.12)...Is it okay for us to go to the US Virgin Islands or Puerto Rico on our honeymoon without Advance Parole?

    http://www.visajourney.com/faq/k1k2visa-enter.html#5.12

Hawaii is a STATE, so there is absolutely no problem traveling there.

I figured I could go to Hawaii, but heard it was not a good idea to go outside of continental US, Hawaii is not continental even though it's US state, wasn't sure. Thank you SO much!

  2. My husband and I had our interview in Chicago on 1/28/08. The officer approved the case, but then made it pending as our lawyer requested some proof to his words(he was ready to take away my I-94 and EAD and leave me with nothing, but his word), he made our case pending. I didn't apply for AP as my lawyer said it may weaken our case if deportation process has to take place. I entered on J-1. My question is where can I travel to non-continental US right now, can I go to US Virgin Islands, Hawaii, Puerto Rico? Does anyone know anything about risk of using AP if case is technically pending?

Thank you so much in advance.

  3. whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat a greaat relief...we just had an succesfull green card interview yesterday at the chicago office. the interview officer was nice and asked my wife my date of birth, where I worked and where we live. And then he said I am going to approve your case and you should recieve your greencard within two weeks. We also got those CRIS emails saying card production ordered.

    :dance::dance::dance::dance::dance::dance::dance::dance:

But now just a little problem. Yesterday when the officer said, you are approved, we were just happy to hear that and we left the building. But then I realized that he did not put anything in our passport saying we have been approved. Did anybody from here got any proof after their sucesfull interview..??

I mean, what if the greencard does not come in the next two weeks and my wife wants to apply for a job or anything like that. (they took the EAD card). What do we use for the alien registration number for her..??? ne helps/tips/suggestions.. please.?

Same problem here. The office approved the case and said the card would come in the mail, but we went with a lawyer who insisted that the office either provides us with a letter or gives me my EAD back. The lawyer told us that it was against the rules to confiscate everything from an immigrant without any proof that the case has been approved. She talked to the manager to resolve the issue, meantime the officer got mad and decided to make our case pending. My lawyer said it was safer this way. We had our interview on 1/28 in Chicago office, nothing has been touched since. I wish you best of luck and hope the officer kept his word!

  4. That's so annoying.

It seems to me (from reading over the years) that some of these AO's just behave that way. Or maybe it's their office policy. Even though these offices have to follow the same rules and laws, they are under different managers and different management styles.

It might even be workload. In very busy offices, some AO's might take interview appointments one right after the other for days on end. They literally might not have time to sign off on the file till they have a day blocked off for paperwork.

Plus - you don't get the emails until after the AO and their supervisor have both signed off on the file. Then theres a clerk who keys in the information. So if they are all swamped, the process becomes more protracted.

Well, we had to get his supervisor involved as my lawyer wanted any kind of proof of what happened in the room, the officer didn't seem to know what exactly he had to do. At first, he wanted to approve the case, but without any written approval, he asked us to "take his word for it" Then when my lawyer politely explained that it wasn't the law and talked to his supervisor, he decided to make our case "pending". A lot of ego and such and I am not able to function mornally, the enxiety is getting to me like crazy :help:

  5. Michael,

We had the same situation, but in Chicago on Nov 29. The officer was nice & pleasant, just asked us the normal questions were did we meet, how did we stay in contact, then we gave her all the proof of living together and pictures, she kept it all. She said it looked like she has everything she needs but has to review our file once more on her time and we'll hear. When we asked "are we approved?" she didnt respond with an official "Yes", she just said she needs to review the file to make sure its complete and then talked about removal of conditions in 2 yrs.

I keep checking almost daily on the USCIS site, and no touches, so not sure if the file is sitting waiting, or what.

When I asked the officer about the I-551 stamp, she said its no longer given out. She said if my husband needed to travel for emergency reasons only, he could come back for the stamp then.

So I guess we have to be patient.

    Hello everyone,

we just had out AOS interview today in Chicago, no answer as well. I was wondering if the officer gave you anything that said you were approved, any paper? First he took my i-94 and EAD, then gave it back, any ideas on what's going on?

    Thanks!
