  1. Yizhen got PINK !, she had to wait again, but this time she was done at 11:30 instead of 12:45. I have not heard about JBHypno, but we are 8 out of 9 so far! I sat in the coffee shop with 2 other gentlemen who also got pink, a K-3/K-4 and a K-1. Only saw a few blues and they looked like students or tourists. Thanks and Good Luck to all, Mike & Yizhen

    Congrats Mike!!!

  2. Rod, you will need to file an amended return to get a refund for 2007, and you will also get the stimulus credit for 2008 when she has the SS#. It keeps life interesting! Mike & Yizhen

Thanks Mike, I sure won't forget to file an amended return for 07 and 08 as I owe taxes for both years

  3. yea, i know at this point i'm paying more tax than i should, but i can file an amended return after she gets to usa.

my CPA is saying my wife doesn't have documents are acceptable as proof of identity and foreign status in order to qualify ITIN, but i believe a formal letter from my CPA will sound a better.

i believe CPA was saying my wife needs to have a valid VISA or past entry to USA in order to get one (as just her foreign passport isn't enough). This topic really sucks and confusing.. but i'm sure there are many other folks filing "single" status like i do.... and the extra paper from their CPA won't hurt (if VO even bothered to ask for the tax return)

  5. Hi guys;

Wife's interview is coming up, and I read some posts on CFL regarding the filing status for the tax returns.... which bothered me quite a bit.

I got married in 2007, and I filed as single only because there was no way I can choose any otherway in that turbotax software without asking for spouse's SSN or tax ID. So, this year I contacted my lawyer directly and he suggested me to have my CPA to find the pertinent part of the law and issue an opinion letter to that effect, just to avoid being questioned at the time of her consular interview.

So looks like I won't be able to file tax myself this year.... as I just made an appointment w/ my CPA and they will have a formal letter in regards to my filing status as well as the section where IRS stated it's legal....etc

Sounds like a lot of work, but I think this is a better approach to address this matter. What do you all think?

  6. you can also try http://www.elong.net/

i usually buy tickets from elong when i have to travel within china.

For roundtrip international flight, i book my fare from Worldwide Travel Inc. agent, they tend to have the best prices for me. give them a try, doesn't hurt to shop around:

718/886-1623 ask for Claire, you can tell her Rod Chu referred you.

  7. Wow congrats… you might plan on a week in Guz, Attend the American Citizen Hour .. I think it’s on Monday’s now. Some think it makes a small difference. Take a day or 2 to get the medical. If all goes well it’ll take 2 days to pickup the visa after the interview at the China post. There are rooms for rent in the same building as the consulate which makes it easy plus the people who rent them will check over your paperwork and escort you to the medical, and visa fee if you wish. Good Luck

(The hotel address is A805 room, 8th Floor, Tian Yu Garden(¢ò Phase),136-146 Lin He Zhong Road, Tian He District, Guangzhou, China. Phone: 1372482886

can you verify that phone number again? looks like it's missing a digit

  8. By the way Rod, are a member of "Candle for Love", if you are, what is your display name? CFL is a site for Chinese American couples. There are many knowledgeable members willing to help get you through the process. My wife and I will be arriving in GUZ on the 20th. We are staying in the same building complex as the Consulate.

    Good Luck, Mike & Yizhen

Mike; i can never get to register a proper acct on that CFL site... like a day or two later, the acct is missing or deleted... where will you be staying? provide me the contact info, if you can.

maybe we can all meet up and have dinner.
