There do not seem to be any routes from Africa to South America. I did look at South African Airways and they had the most ridiculous fares of anyone to fly to the EU and the US east coast.

Wouldn't you know it, as soon as we finally finished up with the Nairobi Consulate after nearly 4 months or wrangling for our daughter's visa, a volcano is now keeping us apart! I just cancelled out the tickets for the morning on BA in hopes of rebooking on either Qatar or Emirates as they are still flying regular service to the States. I went over to the airport to see what are the real options from BA. As of now they are rebooking no earlier than 10 days from now but expect the earliest to realistically be about 2-3 weeks before the weather pattern will change enough to get regular service! ARGH!!!! Yes, I even looked at transatlantic cruises but you have to get to Germany or England...that's not realistic now. Now the $3000 question, Why is it nearly impossible to book an east bound flight to the States!?!? United wanted to add a $3000 surcharge to tie an itinerary from Kenya through Hong Kong to Washington!!! But The segments booked separately are almost the same cost as flying through Europe. das ist scheiß! or should I say, Hii ni takataka!!!
So how is the shut down of the European air service affecting you?
What contingency plans have you made if this situation does not subside in a short period?

Thank you! He was actually staying at a relative's house just a few minutes from the Embassy, so he actually went there in person to schedule the interview as opposed to trying to get through by phone. Now we just sit and wait until May 17 ....
The waiting is the hardest part.

I just got a reply from the Consulate to my email (with a scan of the visa attached) apologizing for their error. WOW, I can't believe any of these people would have admitted it. So, the journey continues by going in on Monday to see about this matter.
-
I've launched my inquiry this morning as soon as I saw it. Thanks for helping me confirm my suspicion of error.

Does the "R" mean relative?

The child's visa actually says K-1?
YES it does.

My wife went back to Kenya to finish up the visa for our 9y/o daughter. After these painful months apart, I just received the document scans and see that the Consulate issued a K1 visa to the daughter. I thought it was to be a K2? BTW, my wife has her Green Card which has added to my mind's confusion. I am making a leap in saying that I will need to go through the whole AOS mess again but the only information I can find on K1 visas is based on the Fiancée process which doesn't appear to fit the situation. Any enlightenment would be appreciated!

My fiancé's last phone bill was $800
We do talk a lot though, I think it was about an average of six hours a day on the phone.
We do talk every day via facebook when he's at work and then every night we're on yahoo messenger and web cam....
We just need to upgrade his sound card so that we can talk via skype now!
I think the card should be a no brainer versus an $800 bill!?
-
We try to use Skype when possible but since I am on the go constantly, I found a specialized calling card for Africa from Locus that gives you 1 hour 13 minutes for $5. Vonage is my backup but a bit more to use. Its about the same as Skype-Out. So, we talk at least an hour a day, and 2-3 hours Saturday and Sundays when my cell has no surcharge to the access number. The cards really help to control the cost because we could go on and on for hours otherwise and Vonage will grab the money out of your account every $100 immediately but I can at least meter out the money on the cards. We spend nearly $300/month yaking and I eat a lot of pasta when she's in Kenya to help the budget. I miss my Sweetie (can you tell?)

And thus, that's probably why it took another 3 months for us to actually get the K2 visa after they told us to come in. BTW, our daughter was at the original K1 interview. Hello?
-
Is this something that is definitely necessary with the K-1? My lawyer says that it isn't.
The safest thing to do is to submit everything (and make sure its translated!)
Yes, it can be painful but having everything makes the process run smoothly.
BTW, take lots of pics in different locations together!
As for the lawyer, you may want to check on what other info they're giving you also to make sure that
you have the right lawyer. Especially if you plan to be out of the country. ( not that much usually happens for the first few months)

Generally, you want to answer the questions truthfully. "Sort of related"? I would imagine that a very distant (family tree wise) cousin shouldn't pose a problem as most states don't have a problem with 3rd + relations. However, we seem to be in a different boat as for the bar appears to be way higher than if we were to marry another USC. Hopefully, some other members could shed light upon the topic.
Best of luck!

Yes the petitions will be split up so you need to send what each forms request for so doubles for most stuff. You need 4 passport photos, correct. If you send the AP as well then it would be 6 passport photos. For the marriage cert you only need a colour copy of the certified copy to send in, but you can send a certified copy if you want to instead.
So, since we only sent 2 pics, how do we submit more pics?

That's wonderful! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

In our case, since I've been in business on my own for about 15 years, I am taking the "unpaid internship" approach for my VSO if anyone asks. (Craigslist is full of it [i mean them]). She wants to do something in the business but frankly has a lot to learn. I plan to take her on shoots and show her the ropes while we await the employment paperwork to see if it really is her "cup of coffee". But long and short, I suggest that you work on the planning of your business and its financing especially in these times before rushing into bending the rules. Echoing the previous posts, its a short period to wait for an all clear when there is so much to plan out. Plans "A"-"E" and beyond should be well thought through since we are being held to a higher standard for marriage and support than the average USC-USC marriage would dream of.

Did you actually send (3) I-129f applications per your signature? Therein-lies the problem. Perhaps one of them was approved and the others rejected. Keep following up and get your Congressman on the case ASAP! You don't have time to dally.

Visa is in hand but now trying to catch the airfares at the right level. It seems to change drastically $400-800 up and down now that she is able to fly. Up until this point it was pretty stable at $880... figures. Going to try for the 26th looks the lowest until May 31. I'm willing to bite off on the higher fare but I just want to make sure that the money is on the right side of the ocean to pull the trigger as the quotes here and there are on a see saw. (Higher there and lower here, then lower there and higher here)

Hi everyone,
So my fiancee is from Nicaragua, where they do not have a very reliable mail system. So she obtained a post box so that she can receive mail without any issues. We are initiating the K-1 visa process, and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with using a Post Box instead of a residence address? The I-129F form has two places for an address, Part B 2, 3a, and 3b and then 15. I'm wondering if one part should distinguish an address to receive mail and if another part is to distinguish address of residence? Also, I'm concerned that having different addresses listed on the I-129F and G-325A will create issues with the consulate.
Any insight?
Regards,
Dan
In Kenya it's pretty much standard for P.O. Boxes to be used. Even the Embassy in Nairobi has one! So, if its the local standard, I wouldn't think it would be a problem. It was very important to have a good local phone number in the documents for my VSO as a backup contact point. We had a few snags in our process and had to be very proactive to shepherd the paperwork through including "Bogarting" the gates with the NOA2 on several occasions. Best of luck on your journey!

Its in the fire safe!

I am sorry that it did not work as planned and hope that you both find a happiness somewhere. It seems a total shame that he would not go back with you. Nothing would keep us apart and I personally have been working on contingency plans to live and create work for myself in Kenya if for some reason my VSO couldn't get here. God Bless!
-
Congratulations! Sounds like you had good timing! Start pressing for the physical NOA2.

I am a federal agent and am compiling the K-1 Visa for my babe in Thailand. Does it pay to be a federal agent? She has lived in England and is completely bi-lingual. I guess what i am asking is do I need an immigration attorney for this or does the fact that i have top secret clearance grant me some leeway?
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think if anything, your top secret clearance is going to make this process longer? Because your name will already be in the systems? I could be wrong though!
When I applied for the CIA several years ago, having a wife that was a non-US citizen was a deal-breaker. I had the background - Military Service, Speak 4 Languages fluently, & International MBA from Duke. They were ecstatic about my application until the moment they found out about my wife. They dropped me like a penny off the Empire State Building.
I don't know for which agency you are working. However, my guess is that once they find out about it, you are likely to run into a truckload of bureaucratic chicken S*%& on this one.
Yet they have thousands of FNs working all over the world with clearances on-site? Its a logic free zone.
