My wife and I just had our AOS interview and we're not sure what to think about the whole thing. My wife came here on an h2b Visa last October. We were married on Feb 1 and filed for an AOS on Feb 14. As far as I understand we're not approved yet. I've read a few other posts on peoples AOS interview experiences and some people talked about getting verbal approval at the end of the interview, but we didn't get anything like that. At the end of our interview the officer just told us she needed to do some kind of background checking or something (she was kinda vague) and that we should expect a letter from her in about 10 days.

The interview went ok I think, but was kinda nerve racking at points. I don't think the officer understood that how and why around my wife's entry to the US and she got pretty agitated at one point, kind of interrogating my wife about our decision to get married and about her job and why she wasn't still working (she worked at a ski resort that closed for the season on Apr 13). I think she might have been suspicious that our marrige was fake as the officer seemed to calm down when we gave her all the things we'd collected to prove our relationship. Also, my income and my ability to be her sponsor was an issue tword the end of the interview, although the officer didn't get upset or agitated at this point. Last year I didn't make enough to qualify as a sponsor as I was in flight school, although this year I have a job that should put me well over the minimum. I was difficult to show though, as she kept asking for w-2's and things to show what I made, but eventually after talking about my current job and what I have in saving she seemed satisfied.

Anyway, I know thats a lot of information, but we're a little unsure what to think about the whole thing. We were expecting something more affirmative but after how the interview when we're not sure what to expect and we're a little nervous. By the end of the interview the officer was a lot more friendly and had dropped her interrogating tone (she even offered us some advice on marrige), but even still we're not sure what to think. Any thoughts?

What if the person doing the translating is in Brazil? Can we still have it notarized here?

Who needs to translate it? I have a friend in Brazil that works as a translator, could she do it, or does she need some kind of credentials in order for the translation to be accepted?

Is it necessary to have your birth certificate translated if its in a different language when submitting a copy with the I-485 for AOS? Thanks

My fiance (who's here in the US working on an H2B visa) and I are a couple weeks away from getting married and we're working on putting together her paper work for AOS. I've read through the I-131 instructions and some of the old posts on this forum, but I'm still a little confused about how advance parole works. The instructions on the USCIS website say advance parole is "an extraordinary measure used sparingly" but it seems from reading this forum its not that hard to get, true?.

Also, I'm unclear on what needs to be submitted as far as her reasons for going home. Will it be enough for her to say she just wants to visit home for a little while? She wants to go home to visit for a month or 2 before she comes back and gets another (non H2B type) job. Also, we'd like to do some traveling to Europe and the Caribbean sometime over the next year or 2. Is advance parole something she'll have to apply for every time she wants to leave the country or will the documentation she gets after applying this first time be good for multiple re-entry? Will the fact that she first entered on an H2B non-immigrant visa make a difference when it comes to advance parole? Thanks
