Since you dont have EAD yet before you applied for SSN, wouldnt your SS card have some kind of "not valid for employment" stamped on it?

Even with EAD you will have the "Not valid" wording... That is not removed until GC is issued

Just curious and wandering if getting SS numbers before EAD is advisable.

Why not... You may have a need to file a tax return with your spouse or open a bank account

Also, I dont think you can apply for EAD without AOS. That means, in your case, you'll have to wait till June.

You can apply for EAD before AOS by submitting the I-765 and fee payment of $340. but the EAD will expire with the I-94... sorta worthless in my opinion

But what the heck.. applying for an EAD is THAT expensive considering u may ONLY use it while I-94 hasnt expired yet. Oh well.

Guess that makes up my mind about not getting it anymor and just wait for AOS.

You mention getting a job to help your fiance with wedding expenses in October. The K1 visa is only valid for 90 days. You will be out of status if you wait until October to get married. You can only apply for the EAD (work document) after you are married. It takes approximately 60 days to receive the EAD once USCIS gets your Adjustment of Status paperwork. Having a Social Security number will allow you to open bank accounts but isnt valid for employment until you have your EAD. You may want to consider a courthouse ceremony prior to your wedding in order to be able to adjust your status.

Oooops sorry i forgot to mention about the civil ceremony this coming June then church wedding on October.

But i need enlightenment on EAD while still under k1, if i apply fo EAD now that means immigration will not allow me since im under k1?

Or can i apply just so i could start working asap?

Im just wondering if i could apply for a work permit even if i don't have the SSN yet? if yes, which US government office should i go to to apply for it? How much does an EAD cost? and how long before they could mail it to me?

Hi VJ friends,

Today has been a wonderful and humbling experience for me. I got approvd of the k1 visa petition and was granted visa pick-up even if i just live nearby the embassy

I got there at 5am with my friends dee (runs4fun) and his pinay wife lilly. But i had to leave my celphone iwth peewee, another VJ friend.

We have a 630 appointment and were asked to get inside at 6am. We submitted the DSforms with the appointment letter then were given a queueing number. Both lilly and i went for fingerscanning at the same time. Then abround 730ish my number flashed for the pre screener interview. He asked for my BC, NBI, CENOMAR, Affidavit of Support, 2007 ITR of my bf and 5 photos and letters but i gave chat logs coz i said we talk on the phone 5x a day so we don't write emails that much.

He asked:

-Who is my petitioner

-how did we meet

-when was the last time he was here and for how long

-are u both single and do we have kids

-whose in the picture with u (pertaining to a picture taken at subic with friends)

-if i have immediate family in the US

-what does he do for a living

He gave back the 2x2 pics given to SLEC then he said to wait for my interview with the consul.

Around 845 i was called to Window 27 for the interview with the consul. Again almost th same time the dee and lilly were also called. We shared the room with 2 consuls, there was just a divider but all the other rooms had just one consul i think.

The consul asked all the same questions plus:

-if i know the reason why my cousin introduced my bf to me

-describe what kind of job my bf does

then he said "well ur papers are good so just wait for ur name to be called again outside."

I wanted to ask if i was approved but i just assumed so just asked casually if i can pick up the visa and even right b4 i was gonna say the reason for my request, he smiled and said "that wouldn't be a problem" then handed me the dark pink slip i should present for visa pick up. I still told him my reason and he just smiled.

Thats it.

Tip: for those who wants to be granted the visa pick up, u may have a letter of request with you (but in my case i wasn't asked for it). But do not show the CO yet. Ask first verbally and casually. I have never read a denial for visa pick up so i guess it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Would just like to ask if i still need police clearance even if i have not stayed in another country for more than 6 months? It is clearly stated in the packet 4 that you just need it if you have been out of the country for more than 6 months but our lawyer sent me a list of requirements for my interview (on March 4) and it had the police clearance listed there.

To those who has had their interview recently, i hope u can shed light on this.

I read a post here and also on the USEM site that SLEC is increasing th medical fee. It will be effective on March 1.

A fellow VJer and I got really curious about the inrease and we wanted to know if TD shots (which is only available in the US and will be required for AOS) will be available soon thats why there is an increase. So i called SLEC today and found out that it DOES NOT include he TD shot. Haaayy. The lady i spoke to said that by April they will be able to answer if TD shots will be available here by then and if it is, then that's another increase aside from the March increase.

I wonder how much it will cost around that time

Oh well what can we do? I am pretty sure it'll all be worth it though when we all arive in the US to be with our loved ones.

I dont think it is possible for a visa pick-up a day after your interview. It usually takes 2-3 working days before USEM can advise you to pick-up visa.
