  1. Hi Everyone,

I am so excited my wife got her visa approved in Montreal. She brought so much evidence and they didn't even look at it. They just ask her to tell them how we met and asked her if she is currently working, where and what. That's it! Then they say you are approved and she was so surprised that she asked them did you need to look at my evidence? They said no they trust her! It literally took her less than 5 minutes for the interview! Yipee!!!!

Anyways, she got her brown envelope for Port of Entry. We are leaving this Saturday to California. Do you know that when she hands in the envelope at port of entry, where it is suppose to go?

Also we would like to express our thanks to everyone on Visa Journey, we've learned so much and got our paper work done right because of you guys! Wish you all best of luck!!

  2. Hi There,

We were in somewhat of a similar situation as yours. My wife (Canadian Citizen) entered the US under a visitors visa and our wedding was a big wedding. However, we were so ignorant that we didn't look into the paper work involved prior to our wedding in California. We just thought, oh we just get married and then file the paperwork, it couldn't be that complicated. It would only make sense, two people fall in love, get married then worry about the paperwork later. We didn't know the existence of K1 visa and stuff. Anyways, we got married she moved to the Caribbean with me where I was studying and then during Christmas we both came back to California to spend Christmas with my parents. At this point we've sent in an I-130. It wasn't until my wife decided to look up the internet and discovered visa journey that she found out that she was suppose to be back in Canada. Because we had a super big wedding that was within 15 days of my wife's arrival, we could not do a change of status for her and we wouldn't want to jeopardize our situation. So she moved back to Canada and we have been married for a little over a year now and she is scheduled for an interview in late Oct.

In your situation though because you got married in Reno, technically you can justify it as a spur of the moment and unplanned. Keep in mind, it's only planned weddings that are pinned for intentional. But then you got married 61 days after your arrival so that can be iffy too. I personally think you should contact a lawyer ASAP. If worse comes to worse, you can always go back to Canada and wait for the paper work to be processed properly, that's if you hadn't attempted to change status yet and just filed an I-130. If you have filed for a change of status, you should contact your lawyer.

  3. Hi There,

I just submitted one and it was the police certificate provided by the RCMP. At the time, I wasn't sure if they wanted the one with my fingerprint or just the certificate itself. Anyways, I decided to get the fingerprinted one, just to be sure. My case was completed on Aug. 28 and my interview is scheduled for Oct 28. So yes, I believe you only need one from the RCMP.

    Goodluck!!

  4. My wife went to her family doctor to get her immunization record and her doctor told her that he has no previous record of her immunization. Because my wife's family relocated from Manitoba to British Columbia when she was a child, all of her immunization record was left back in Manitoba.

Her family doctor said that he could provide her with all of the immunization again. My question is should she go to her family doctor to get all of the immunization or should she wait and go to the Doctor appointed by US immigration and get her immunization done with him? Is there a price difference?

    Thanks!

  5. Hi All,

My wife sent in her orginal Police Certificate to NVC. For the interview they require her to bring a Police Certificate, my question is, is it okay for her to bring in a photocopy of the Police Certificate considering she has already sent her one and only original copy to NVC already? or does she still have to bring in an original copy of the police certificate. In the latter case we have to reappy for it again.

Thank you so much for the advice!!

    Cheers!!

  6. There is something odd with the system. My wife is from Canada and I filed her I-130 since last year, July 2007 and she just got scheduled for her appointment now for Oct. 28th. What was worse was some people filed their I-130 at the beginning or even mid of 2008 and they are where we are at. Pretty unfair I'd have to say. I am extremely happy for the people who didn't have to suffer much and their paperwork was smooth sailing but I do think it's unfair that some are left waiting for so long and others not at all. I really don't know how CIS and NVC organizes things. It's definitely not first come first serve basis, I can guarantee you that!

  7. Will you please share with us when your case was completed at NVC? Just curious if the timeline between case completed at NVC and date of interview has decreased any. Thanks!

Hi there! Our case was completed at NVC on August 26, 2008 and then I called in yesterday to speak with an operator and was told that my wife's interview was scheduled for October 28, 2008. He said the letter of confirmation was sent to us on Sept 15, 2008.

    I hope that helps!

Click on the embassy info tab at the top, and then Canada and then Montreal. Gives you all the info.

    Thanks you so much!!

  8. Hello Everyone,

My wife called in yesterday and found out that her interview will be held in Montreal on Oct 28th, woohoooo!! Finally after the long painful wait.

I was wondering does anyone know the address of where the interview will be held in Montreal? We are still waiting for the confirmation letter but want to get a head start in booking flights and hotel.

    Thanks!!

  9. Oh no, I am so sorry to hear that! I'd like to wish you and your husband the best of luck.

I'm sorry to hear about your situations. It could be worse though... My husband and I filed in September of 2006 and did not get an interview until January 2008. Since he wasn't approved we're now waiting for a new interview.

hey Doc. you are not whining at all you are just frustrated like all of us (the reason we come here to this website)

You usually don't need a lawyer unless you are really busy. This process needs some free times to work on. You have submitted all documents as far as I see but probably you need to call NVC and ask them what is going on. USually when you get RFE for lack of evidence, that delays your case a bit but not more than three weeks. So you should be there.

Have your tried call NVC and have your case number and talk to a live person?

I don't know if you have already done this but call NVC number which is (603) 334-0700 anytime it (automated system works 24/7) and find out about your case number.

If you have already known this, then call tomorrow between 8-5 EST and talk to a live person.

Haven't you try to follow any of the guides which are around here? They are helpful.

I guess we got a little details about your case, mean while please elaborate little more see if we can help you so you don't get frustrated.

    Be in Peace

    Good Luck

Thank you so much for your time and help. It makes me feel a lot more relieved just hearing you say that we are on the right track. I will definitely contact NVC directly and I will fill you in on the details of our case after going through my papers.

    Once again, thank you!!

  10. Well here is my case. My wife is Canadian and I married her last year July 15, 2007. We mailed in our I-130 on July 20th, 2007. We got a letter from the USCIS indicating that they have recieved our I-130 in Mid-August 2007. I am a US citizen but attended medical school in the Caribbean, so my wife and I left for the Caribbean for school. We thought that by the time we came back the paperwork should be well on its way. We came back to California in Dec 2007. Since my wife is a Canadian and we filed the I-130, she had to return to Canada to wait for her interview. Since I am prepping for my board exam and I don't want to be far from my wife, I have decided to stay in Canada with my wife. We figure we would wait for the interview together and when the interview and the immigration paperwork was done, we would move back to California together. This way we don't have to be separated.

We came back to Canada after Christmas Dec 29, 2007 and we did not hear anything from the USCIS until Mid April 2008, we got a letter indicating that we were now transferred to the NVC. In June 2008 we were asked to submit the I-864 and DS 230. Since I am a student with no income, I had to have my sister be my co-sponsor. They recieved the documents at the beginning of July 2008 and sent us another a letter in mid-July 2008 requesting that my wife provide them with her Birth Certificate/Canadian Citizenship, her criminal record, her pictures and our marriage certificate. We sent the documents in a week later and have not heard from them since.

I don't know if I am doing anything wrong? My wife and I are so surprised at how long this is taking and we just want it to be done and over with so that we can start settling down and live our married lives. We have family hustling us and blaming us for being stupid and not going through a lawyer. Then I go on here and people who filed their paperwork long after we did have received their interview? Perhaps we should have gone to a lawyer?

Sorry for the whining, both my wife and I are literally so depressed!! We just wish there was something that we could do. Everytime we see someone approved we are so happy for them but then we feel so bad because we haven't made it anywhere yet, especially when people who are approved sent in their I-130 much later than us and live much further away then we do. You would think that since my wife was Canadian, it would be quicker, but I guess not.

Thank you so much for listening. We really appreciate it!

  11. Pretty much that's where we are at, do we still have a long way to go?

So you are at NVC, with a case number and you got an RFE?? Is that it??

    Nita

I am so confused with the immigration process. I filed an I-130 for my wife right after we got married on July 15, 2007. Up until today, still no interview date issued. Last I heard from NVC is for her to send in her criminal record, her citizenship from Canada, her pictures, etc. I am looking at other people's cases and they seem to all go smoothly and they file way after I did, at least 6- 7 months after, but has caught up to where we are at. My wife is from Canada too, it shouldn't be that difficult. Are we just doing something wrong here? Sorry, I am just so frustrated and worried. This immigration process has caused us so much grief, we are literally getting depressed just waiting for this to finish.

I will fill out the timeline when I get home to check my papers so that it's more accurate. Perhaps you will have a better idea to give me suggestions.

A fully filled out timeline and any other information (dates things were sent, requested, etc.) would be helpful.

It should be a requirement to fill out a timeline if you are here -- it is the one thing that everyone can do to give back to the community. It provides real data about what's going on at USCIS and NVC.
