  1. Today the unexpected happened. I received my Green card in the mail less than four months after filling. I never had an interview or anything, although I understand as my case was transferred to CA you don't always get one. Anyway, I've got it now and I'm certainly not complaining!

So what I'm trying to say is, keep faith everyone, it'll work out eventually!

PS It doesn't exactly come with many instructions, just a note saying you've been approved! I only got my EAD two weeks ago and now I'm not sure if I even need it anymore!

  2. I called all the offices within reasonable radius, and found that only one of them would actually do it! The others had either moved on, no longer offered the service or had appoinments for weeks!!!

I think I'll risk it by sending just the stuff I got in London - seems like a good bet and well worth a try. If I get an RFE I'll call Dr Arnold.

Better go an cancel that $165 appointment!

    Thanks for all your help!

  3. I am getting ready to file my AOS following arrival here as a K-1, and the wedding etc. I understand that because I had a medical exam as part of the visa process in the UK, all I need to file is the vaccination part of the medical exam form.

However, I only just realised this means making an appointment with a US civil surgeon, and having he or she verify my vaccination records and signing the form. I made this appoitnment and was told it would cost $165.

This seems a little steep considering all they need to do is look at my record from the UK, along with the US Department of State Form signed by the doctor who did my official medical exam, and sign a form.

I was wondering it a) I am doing this correctly, and B ) if this is a normal price to pay for such a simple service.

Any other experiences would be appreciated.

On a related thread, is a print out from my UK doctor going to be enough 'proof' that I have had the vaccinations. It doesn't look very official, but worked for the visa med exam.

    Thanks

  4. Hi,

Can anyone advise me on the following two issues... I read the form guides but I still don't know how to answer.

    I-485

Part 3 - Non Immigrant Visa number

Where do I find this? I'm sure I've used it before but I can't find anything that specifically matches this description.

    B - List your present husband/wife.

Should I use my wife's maiden name or her new name (my family name)?

And advise would be greatly appreciated!

  5. Thanks everyone for info on this, was wondering if anyone was able to clarify something for me...

I arrived on October 25th on the K-1 visa. I do not seem to have an emplyment authoristion stamp in my passport.

Today I went to my local SSA office to apply for a new card (I already have a number from a previous visa). First I was told that I would be eligable to work straight away, she just needed to process my information. Then however, she said there was a problem verifying my info and I would have to wait 30 days for DHS to verify it for me. Then she said, I would be able to work straight away.

But this is different from what I had previously thought. I do not have an EAD and do not intend to apply for one until I apply for AOS on January 1st after I get married.

So, If I finally get a new Social Security Card, will I be able to legally work?

    Any ideas much appreciated!

  6. Hey everyone,

On everyone's timelines people keep referring to being touched! I am just wondering, is this something that comes up when you check you status online, and what exactly does it mean?

Also, a different note much further down the line, I have previously had a J-1 summer work visa so I had a social security number. I no I keep the same one eventually, but does anyone know if it will be sorted any quicker? And in fact, does anyone know if this might speed up or delay my case at all?

  7. Hey!

My fiance in the US filed the I29F in the middle of December - we are still waiting to hear anything. We're currently planning a wedding for December. However, I have just a couple of quesitons which I really cannot find answers to...

The dates of the visa - does the 90 days start from when the visa is issued or do we at some point get an option to pick a star date?

I'm sure I read somewhere that you can get permission to work before the wedding - does anyone have any info on this?

Finally, does my fiance in the US have to be earning more than a certain amount of money? I have never heard this before but just read this on a different post. She is a student at the moment and therefore does have a salary.

Any responses would be most appreciated!
