  1. Hello,

I have a Q regarding the passport photo. In the USCIS instructions they do not state the exact dimensions of the photo itself that they need. Just that the full frontal image must be one inch from your chin to the top of your hair. I read an informational page on a site giving a very precise description to what the photo should look like, also stating that it should be 2" by 2" in dimensions.

The problem with this is that everywhere he has gone to get a passport photo they only do....about 1 and a quarter by 2" and some 1 and a half by 1 and a half. So our option would be is if he went to a professional studio, who then told him it could take over a week to get the photo, we are trying to send this application ASAP! What should we do? I don't want to take a risk that USCIS will reject our photo and ask us for another and delay our app. so should we go ahead with the professional photographer.

Oh and yes, he has already tried to make one on his computer and keeps coming out with problems.

    Thanks!!!

We got ours done at CVS pharmacy and they were the correct size. Try other pharmacies, such as, Walgreens, Rite-Aide, etc.

  2. yes , what you have heard is true. i am working on the freeway just outside el-paso, building a bridge (mile post 8 ) and the checkpoint is in the north bound lane. they change the location every now and then. one week they will work it m,w,f, and the next will be t,th,sat. always in the north bound lane . not once have we seen them pick-up anyone. they are moved by 6 pm. best way would be to fly to el-paso and take a cab from the airport. they don't bother the cabs as far as we can tell. am going to jaurez with my wife later this spring/summer (after the bridge is finished) for my wifes interview/waiver and we will fly from washington state to el-paso anyway just to be sure.

Well we will be coming from Georgia which will be on I-20 and I-10 west all the way. So should we be concerned for that??? I mean we will have the appointment letter showing that we are going to CDJ for the interview/waiver.

  3. Well after all the hard work and fighting with the consulate, we got our appointment for his passport. We went to Atlanta this morning and after all the standing in line in the cold outside and fighting with the people inside, they didn't want to give him his passport. They told him that he didn't have an appointment even though we had the confirmation number. She told him "you are not in the computer". Just so happened that he remembered the name of the lady he spoke with on the phone last night so they let him go ahead. Then the next problem was them telling him that his birth certificate was not an original because it was not the right color. She said it should be like a orange/reddish color. His Momma sent this one from Mexico. It is not a photocopy. It has all the stamps, seals, etc. The only thing is it looks like it is the back of a carbon (used to make copies from the old typewriters). So, it ended up they gave him a one year passport to give him time to get his original birth certificate, which he already has. The other people inside told him that it was much easier in Mexico. Just go to the bank and pay, then go do the fingerprints and paperwork (about 5 minutes) and then come back in two hours for the passport.

My question is: Since our appointment is hopefully in July/August would it be best to have his mom request an original b/c or just wait until we get to Mexico and renew his passport? We will have some time there before/during the appointment because we want to visit his parents. I know we will have to renew this one because it has to be good for six months after the appointment date.

    Any help would be appreciated....

    "BUMP"...please help!

  5. On the immigrate2us.net website, there were several people concerned about "checkpoints" by immigration when crossing state lines and getting closer to border. They report that some people have been close to the border traveling to CDJ and gotten deported. This concerns me because we hopefully be traveling to Mexico this summer to visit his parents and then to CDJ for the appointment. I had had never heard of such a thing, but they say they are mostly in the northbound lanes and not the southbound. Anyone have any information? :help:

    Why would you be deported?

Are either of you in the U.S. illegally?

    I'm confused.

Yes...my fiance is here illegally. He has to file an I-601 waiver for illegal presence.

  7. Do you think it is a big deal if I do not have an engagement ring yet? We have lived together as a couple for the past 1 1/2 years and just decided that it was time to get married. It was not a "get down on your knee" deal. All the people I know in his family have bought the engagement ring and wedding band together as a set right before the wedding. To me it is not big deal, but I thought maybe to the consulate it might be.

Also, one of the questions is: When is the wedding date? Well when you are going through a process like this and especially like us have to file a waiver for illegal presence, who could plan on anything. All we can say is within three months after we get in the US. We don't plan on having anything big so it won't take a lot of planning anyway. Should we have a date in mind so that we can answer that at the interview???

Oh yeah, I mailed our I-129f in on 1/4 and they cashed the check yesterday 1/8 and mailed our NOA1. Just hope they are that fast with the NOA2!!!!!

    Thanks in advance!!!

  8. Yeah, but now they have the Infopass system in Mexico (Cuidad Juarez) where you get your interview appointment about 4-5 days after your fiance interview. After I find out our appointment date for the I-129f, then I call the number in Mexico and schedule the waiver appointment. If I have good enough hardship letter, he will be approved that day and pick up visa the next day.

  9. I just did our I-129f timeline (and yes I know its just a projection), but it says that the file should be adjudicated in June. What does that mean?...that it will be approved and sent to NVC or we will have our interview by then or what? :help:

That's when your petition could be approved. Then it's forwarded to NVC then to the Embassy where the interview is given.

Would anyone happen to know how long it would take after June to get our interview in Mexico???

We were hoping to go in July, but looks like that is not at all possible???? :(

When should we plan on going for our interview??? He has to have a waiver for illegal presence so I need to gather all my documentation and don't want it to be too outdated.

    Thanks!

    We filed on December 5th.

I'm hoping to be down there in August.

The process takes anywhere from 6 to 9 months.

Click Here for other time lines of people from VJ whose service center is also Vermont and their fiance from Mexico.

You can get a look at how much time you are looking at.

You'd be very lucky to make it there by July.

Yeah, I know. I was hoping since I teach school I could go during summer break. Otherwise, I am probably going have to do a leave of absence without pay. The link you gave me showed about 6-7 months until the interview. Thanks!!

  11. Not sure if I understood your post correctly.

So just to clarify. From your post I assume that your fiance is in the US illegally. As far as I know (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong), the beneficiary has to reside outside of the US. I would suggest to contact an experienced immigration lawyer in your case.

    Good luck for your journey!!

No, they can be here but of course we have to file the I-601 waiver because of illegal presence. I received some replies on immigrate2us.net that clarified my question on the addresses.

  12. Just a bit of background knowledge....my fiance is from Mexico where he entered without inspection in 2004. He had a catch and release the day before he was successful. Therefore, we know that he will need a I-601 waiver.

We mailed the I-129f this past week to the Vermont Service Center. The usps.com website shows that it has been delivered. I was wondering if anyone has had this experience and could enlighten me on what to expect. I have read a lot of the posts/experiences, but there were not many who needed the waiver.

If we filed in January 2008, when could be expect to be in CDJ? I teach school so I was hoping to be able to go during the summer (June or July) for the interview with my fiance. Otherwise I will have to take a leave of absence without pay.

One more thing - the packets they send will go to what address? I put his address here because we currently live together as a couple. Then of course I put the address abroad where he lived with his parents. I need them sent here, but not sure where they will go.

    Any help will be appreciated!!!
