    Its a fantastic feeling!!

Enjoy and Have a Blast !!

Im flying out tonight... need everyones prayers...

    Best of Luck CJ!!

    Everyone's prayers are with you!!

    You will succeed!!

  2. COngrats... we are so nervous/scared... your post helps alot!!!

real quick.. you are K1? why did they ask your fiancee if this is her first marriage?

CJIndia, what they meant by first marriage is whether this will be the first marriage between the two parties.

  3. Another question.

On the Affidavit of Support I-134. I have given my wife the following documents.

    1) I-134

    2) 2006 Tax Returns

    3) W2 of 2006

    4) Company Letter stating my title, salary and how long I have been working there.

    Do I need anything else?

    Thanks!

    and a bank letter?

you don't need a bank letter as long as you are making above the minimum required in the US. ( i am not sure what that amount is but somewhere in the mid - late $20K). againt doesn't hurt to have it.

  4. Congrats to both of you!  I hope they find your lost bag.

It would be good to just drop into a SSN office early next week (before 14th) and apply for the SSN, the name will be in the system then and it can avoid a hassle later (if you delay applying for SSN, then they will refuse to let you apply for it until the green card arrives, that could be three or more months!).

Come early for your court wedding on the 14th, it is one of the most popular days of the year to get married and I hear people wait in lines for hours!

Thank you v. much for your suggestions ELW. I will go for the SSN right after the marriage then, this way we don't have to go there again for a name change. Hopefully we wont have to wait for hours, the city mayor is doing our ceremony and apparently there are only 4 that day that he is doing. (of course i had to pay a donation so its not really free :)

  5. Thank you very much for everyone's wishes. you are a very supportive bunch.

for people who are waiting for their interview and are feeling v nervous, I do want to mention that we were very very nervous and scared and have spent a sleepless night or two. we tried to cover all possible scenarioes and questions. we actually carried about 10kgs worth of additional documentation with us for the interview.

most of all its the wait that gets to you. eventually you just want to do the interview and get it over. at the embassy I wasn't that nervous but my fiancé was but it went fairly smoothly and we didn't even have to take out a single piece of paper from our 10kg bag. my fiancé said that it almost felt like they had already made their decision beforehand.

so please even if you are nervous and scared, just be prepared and believe that you will get the visa. I truly wish the best for everyone on this forum and hope that people get united with their loved ones soon and without hassles.

  6. Just wanted to share our experience of the K1 VISA process. This is a great forum and everyone is great at trying to help everyone else. Although I haven't contributed much but have picked up a few things by reading the posts. Thank You Everyone.

    ---Interview Experience---

We arrived there fairly early. I had gone from the US to be with my fiance, wasn't really sure if they'd let me into the embassy but was worth a try. Our interview was at 8:00 am and they started letting us form the line outside the embassy around 7:30. I was allowed in without any issues. I told them that I am the petitioner and showed my US passport.

There were two interviews, the first one was by an Indian person and the second one was by an American one. I did not accompany my fiance to the actual interview but was waiting in the seating area and was able to see her during her interview. I will try my best to recall the questions as my fiance told me.

    1st interview (around 8:30am)

    1. Is this your first marriage?

Gave the 156K form to fill out (but not sign)

Handed all the proof of relationships & original docs back that were submitted via VFS

    2nd interview (around 10:00am)

    Took finger prints

    Asked to sign the form

Gave the oath (of saying the truth and nothing but the truth, the American person actually said this in hindi)

    1. What does your fiance do?

    2. Why do you want to get married in the US?

    3. What do you do currently?

More questions about fiance's job in India

    4. How did you first meet?

    5. How was the meeting arranged?

    6. How many times did you meet before your engagement?

    Visa Approved.

Visa in hand the following Monday (3 business days later) from the Blue Dart office. When asked if we could get the visa in the embassy in the evening, they said only VFS can help.

Flew back with fiance on Feb 1st. The POE was very smooth. No questions were asked, my fiance was taken to another area where they process all visas, the officer just informed that we had 90 days in which to get married and that was it. Everything was smooth except the airline lost one of our bags :(

Marriage scheduled with the court on Feb 14th. We didn't file for my fiance's SSN as the courts told us that it is not required as long as I have a valid one. Will file for the remaining paperwork afterwards. Will look to this portal for help again :)

  7. my wife's interview is coming up soon, and she is worried about what language the interview can be conducted in...

her english isn't that good, but she speaks gujarati and hindi fluently.

are the interviews in english only, or do they have interpretors ?

    thanks

they will provide an interpreter during the interview. they will ask if she needs one. if they don't then she can say that she needs one.

  8. I do have one question though, was your fiance wearing a mangalsutra at the interview? If so, doesn't that signify that she got married in India in which case don't they object to giving the K1?

    Thanks..yes..we are relieved.

We applied for K-1(fiancee) and NOT K-3(spouse) so not sure what has this got to do with wearing a mangalasuthram or not?

I would only think they are just following protocol to grill people..

My impression was that only married women wear the mangalsuthram. So if your fiancee was wearing one, that would mean that she's married to you and would qualify as a spouse and not fiancee? My knowledge in this area is not so good so apologies in advance :)

  9. Congratulations!!!! I am sure you are very happy and relieved.

  10. It doesn't matter if you staples documents/proofs or clip them together. I would organize it in a way which makes it easy for the person reviewing it to go through your papers. A cover page would definitely help. First you should make a list of all the proofs that you are planning to send on paper. Then see in which order you should arrange it. Put all the similar documents together (i.e. airline tickets, emails, phone records, receipts etc.). If you can put this in a multi-pocket folder then put all the similar documents in one pocket, label each pocket describing what's in it and what timeframe does it correspond to. For example for your airline tickets, you should label all the different dates that you went back and visited. This way they don't have to search through the documents to find out.

On the back of yor pics, make sure you label them with who is in the picture and when it was taken. The cover letter should have the list of all the documents that you are sending and in which label folder they can be found. Some of this maybe overkill in organization but think about their mindset. Make it easy for them to find and follow your documentation.

    Other things to include

-receipts for any gifts that you've given

-if you went on trips and stayed at hotels, give those receipts

    -letters/cards that you've exchanged

Be confident at the interview and go in with the mindset that YOU WILL GET THE VISA.

    Best of luck.

  11. I've been trying to do something useful in this forum. There are a lot of you out there that have shown a lot of support and have provided a lot of help and guidance. That is awesome and its great to see this forum as a good support center for people in the same situation.

My fiance has her interview date this month at New Delhi and of course we are very nervous and want to be prepared to the best of our abilities.

Someone had given my fiance this advise which I wanted to share regarding going to the interview. This person mentioned that you should make sure that your face, ears etc. are not covered during the interview. Sometimes they will put the visa into questioning and pending further investigations if they feel that your face matches that of a terrorist or someone on their list of people who should not be allowed to migrate to the US. They can usually tell the difference by looking at your ears and lips so its important not to cover them.

This is not a really big tip but hope this helps.

  12. hi,

The Jan interview list would be out by now. Have you checked the Delhi consulate website. I think you would be up for in Feb

    God bless u

    Jigi

In the same boat here. The US embassy in New Delhi does not have the Jan dates posted on their website although according to their information they should've done it by Dec 15th. You can try calling them (which I haven't done yet). I will try the numbers given on this website under the 'Embassy Info' link.
