  2. I am now a U.S. citizen. I have a co-worker who is currently sponsoring his wife for CR1. It appears that during my time the process was not the same. THe steps looks like it had been streamlined.

The question we have is: Where do we send the completed I-864 and evidences like the tax transcripts?

We tried to read in all websites even at the USCIS website we cannot seem to find any concrete info on where to send it. The sponsor (my US citizen co-worker) had already paid the $404 IV fee. He got a text form USCIS that the next step is to complete the I-864. I seemto remember that when my hubby was doing this there were instructions on where to file and everything seems to be very clear. But at this time nothing is clear, it seems.

    Thanks for any info.

  3. I didn't do the 3 yrs marriage to USC but instead the 5 year residency. During my interview today while waiting in the waiting room, I observed many numbers of spouses wanting to go in the interview with the naturalization candidate when they are called in. I don't know exactly what they were told as I only hear bits and pieces but I see them all walking back to their seats and the candidate being ushered in by the USCIS reviewer. They allowed interpreters to come to the interview though. I was near the door so I kind of hear and got the idea of what was happening. There was one spouse who asked to go in with the candidate who kind of looks old and lost. The USCIS reviewer told them both to wait outside for a little bit longer while she checks something. Then after 20 mins opened the door and called them both in.

I mailed my 400 application today based on 3yrs' marriage to USC.

Does the 400 interview require both husband and wife? I don't have a problem with that. It's just that I was thinking only the naturalizing spouse is needed and gets interviewed. Until I read on this forum that they now require state IDs from both husband and wife. And then I started wondering do they just need the IDs or they need the USC to be present... Thanks for your feedback.

  4. Thank you. Thanks for reminding I almost forgot about the SSA update.

Congrats to you and your son!!! Glad that everything went smooth at the interview.

Did not hear before about the 10 day waiting recommendation before applying for the passport.

I guess it is a good idea to have a certified copy of the certificate. I sent my in and had only a regular (non-certified) copy.

It is also now time to update your records with the Social Security Administration (SSA). You will not get a new number, they will just update the records indicating that you are a citizen now.

Also register to vote. 2012 election will be interesting :)

  5. Thanks everyone.

I guess they said to wait 10 days to make sure the naturalization records are in the system.

They said to make sure to get a certified copy before sending the original for the US passport. They said the Dept of State needs the original and then it gets sent back with the U.S. passport. The copy they were talking about are those ones where a notary public looks at the original and stampsthe copy with a seal and certifying that it is a true copy of the original. They said its good to do this as a back-up just in case something happens. I read somewhere here that someone sent in their original certificate for the U.S. passport application and the certificate came back mutilated to pieces. Then they tried to get a copy from USCIS and guess what....it will cost $375 to get another certificate. I guess the USCIS have heard of the horror stories..

Congrats from me, too, Aussie Girl.

One thing stood out in your story and it's quoted above. They really told you to make a copy of the Naturalization certificate??? I thought making a copy of this document was highly illegal and a federal violation. Did this recently change????

  6. Great news my friends! My son and I are now U.S. citizens. My son had his interview all passed and approved in a record 10 mins and mine passed and approved in 17 minutes. All completed at 12 noon back at 2:00 p.m. for the Oath ceremony. You were all very right! IO never asked for my tax filings and scripts nor for the pictures. Just asked me if I have been filing my taxes for which I answered 'yes'. IO was friendly, precise, efficient and quick. Started with the history test stopped at question # 6 because I got it all correct. Asked me to read a sentence 'Where is the White House', Told me to write 'The white house is in Washington, D.C.'. She had my folder 10 inches thick in front of her, checked everything she need to check asking me several questions related to marriage documents etc as she ticked each one she requires. She just made sure copies of of previous required documents( U.S. marriage related papers) are in the folder. We talked about my indicated preference to change my first name and I asked her if its going to mean that I won't be able to take the oath at 2:00 p.m today. She said not really but it could mean taking the oath at another day (in Baltimore the special name change oath taking occurs once a month and I already missed this month's), when I said I then changed my mind about changing my first name and that I would like her to include me in this afternoon's oath taking, she went out of the room to confirm if I haven't been booked yet and she processed my approval and oath taking for 2:00 p.m. After reminding me that really the best way to change the name is during this process because I will have to go to all blah blah etc procedures if I decide I want to change my name later. I told her I am very certain and sure that I'd rather be a U.S. citizen today she smiled at me and said..ok you got it...

All in all the hardest time in this N400 stage was the waiting... we left the house at 8:30 a.m. arrived at the place our appt is at 10:40 a.m. We are told in the letter not to arrive too early, so hanged around in a coffee shop nearby. Went inside the building at 10:15 a.m. and stayed int he waiting room, by the time I got called for the interview it was 11:45. My son was called at exactly 10:40 the appt time. Stayed around in the baltimore downtown just nearby the bldg area for the 2:00 p.m. oath ceremony. we were told to make sure we are back in the waiting room by 1:45 p.m. At exactly 2:00 p.m. everyone in the waiting room was told to form a single line and we were all escoted to the 7th flr bldg where each one of us 60 U.S. naturalization candidates were individually processed (we gave up our green card and submitted the paper that the IO earlier gave us. Oath ceremony finished at exactly 3:00 p.m. On the way home at 3:05 p.m. got home at 3:45 p.m. But I feel so tired now but I am thankful its all done.Btw, We were told to wait 10 days before applying for a U.S. passport and to make sure we get a certified copy of the U.S. Naturalization certificate before sending off the original to the Dept of State for the U.S. passport.

Thank you everyone for all your moral support. Now updating my info.

    Aussie Girl

It is again just in case they lost them and ask for them during the interview. However, 99.99% of the time they do not ask for them. So just relax, you'll be fine. Best of luck and please let us know how it goes.

  8. Hi! I filed using the 5 yr but its the first time I heard about tax filings. My interview is tomorrow... Feel like its panic time to go gather all our tax returns..and for 5 years? Pls tell me someones just kidding...

    Aussie girl

Well it does say specifically to include both sides of the Green Card, but it does not say anything about evidence of tax filing.

I also am filing on 5 years in the next couple of weeks and was just going to include the same as you.

Anybody filed 5 years withour tax transcripts?

  9. Thanks Jemmi & Heliosphan.

I indicated in my N400 application that I want to change my first name. Does anyone know if that would allow me to do the same day oath or if it will delay my oath taking in the baltimore field office. Also, I thought I read in one of the postings that during the interview I will be asked again if I want to change my name and then I can perhaps change my mind to not make the name change? I feel I don't want to delay my oath taking so I can soon be a fed employee or work overseas whichever comes first.

Congratulations aussie girl, i see you are going to have your interview in baltimore. they have same day oath just in case you didnt know :)

  10. Yipee! got the interview letter today...

  11. According to my observation based on the timelines from the May filers to August filers is that from fingerprinting to being scheduled for interview is on average of almost exactly a month (4 weeks or a bit more). My fingerprinting was on Sept 8 and my status is now scheduled for interview since Oct 7. Its Oct 11 now and I didn't get the interview letter yet. And when the interview letter comes I expect the interview date to be 4 to 5 weeks from october 7. And of course there are those really lucky people who get their N400 process completed in 2 months time from the time they sent their application to oath taking.

Oh hell no! REALLY ? I waited for a month! and now it's finally scheduled. I was in line for scheduling since sept 1, and finally scheduled on Oct 4. Your LUCKYY!!!!! and it's quite unfair!

  12. Thank you for that info. That was very enlighting. I guessed right we are of the same line of work. For a little while there when I was reading your last 2 sentences explaining how those 2 numbers tie up - I thought I was reading the way I would explain how some parts of the system works to somebody.

Anyway, what I learned from that link is that... (at the bottom part) mentions that we can only use the APP ID when querying the status in the automated system. But when we are using the phone to query the status, we can also use the NBC$ apart from the NBC*.

I am an IT guy too and information about this is available on various immigration forums

    http://www.***removed***....ipt-number.html

or you can just google and type " how to decipher uscis receipt numbers "

  13. I tried entering that NBC$ number at the bottom of my notices and replaced the $ with an * and it gave me the same status but the dates are off. I think its another person's status. The last 3 digit between my NBC* & NBC$ is 63 counts less than my application number. So I think what I was shown using that NBC$ is the status of another applicant. If what you are saying is true then there is a bug in the system. I am an IT person working for a Fed agency and the only way you would know the tie up between those numbers is if you are working on that application system. That's a pretty specific info on how the system works. Only the system people who works for that system normally would know those info you are talking about. :)

NBC$ does have a significance , it is actually the Unique pay id which is tied to the application num , the unique pay id tracks the fee paid for the case.. uscis uses claims 4 mainframe system for n400 applications which uses these two numbers to track cases

  14. The NBC* number that I am using coincided with the NBC* number that is in the Application Number of the very first letter and fingerprinting letter we got from USCIS. They are showing us the correct status all the time when we use those NBC* number to check our status. We do have the NBC$ at the bottom but I don't think that has any importance. When we did our fingerprinting, I specifically took note of the NBC* to make sure the person who was doing our fingerprinting did not make any mistake. The person told me the system automatically puts our NBC* as our reference number so there would be no manual input therefore will always be correct.

    I used the same website

but what was astonishing was that I got completely different results using the numbers

when I used the application number starting with NBC* i get " finger print notice sent "

when I used the NBC$ number at the bottom of the receipt and replaced the $ with a * , i get "placed in line for interview "

  15. I check my status using the nbc* number by going to www.uscis.gov. I got that nbc* from the very first text message I got from USCIS letting me know they received our N-400 application. The weird thing is... when I checked my status the other day I could also check other people's. All I had to do was add or subract 1 less or more number from my own. That is how I found out numbers higher than mine which I am assuming submitted their application much later than me already had their interviews scheduled before mine did.

si kiddy it is true and it really works ? when i check with my receipt num however i get the status " initial review sent fp notice "

  16. Good news! I checked my son's and my status tonight and it now says:

Your N400, APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION is now scheduled for interview. You will receive a written notice with a time and place for your interview. You should receive this notice within 14 days. If you do not receive this notice within 14 days from October 7, 2011, please call customer service at 1-800-375-5283 for further assistance

I do think they are being processed in the order received, but each office does their own. So an office like mine (Fort Smith, Arkansas) will be quicker because they have so few applications. I believe they get about 30 a month. Whereas NY probably gets 6000+ a month.

  17. it seems that the east coast processing is not going anywhere..like as if it is on hold while those in the other area is on speed mode... I don't understand the logic behind it. One would think they would process in order of receipt. Does anyone know what could be the reason why the east coast had kind of slowed down? Even California is on fast mode...go figure.

THANK YOU!!! to+ for updating my post.

  18. I am currently waiting for my interview to be scheduled. I just completed my fingerprinting on September 8. Since I arrived here in the U.S. on 2005 on CR1 visa being married to a U.S. citizen, I did not go anywhere outside the U.S. I've been offered several contracting work (I.T.) during the past 5 years and I did not accept any of them. However at this time, work is really getting harder to get and the pay is really low. I still have a job but I can see it about to disappear. I work for a govt contractor.

What effect would my going overseas at this time have on my processing? Is it okay to go overseas(UK/Ireland) or should I just wait for another opportunity to come my way? I've already declined 3 times in the past, I am worried I won't be approached in the future. I plan to just go back here for the interview. There is a possibility for the client to allow me to work from here in the U.S. but I still need to go overseas first to do the preliminary steps of the work that is required to be done first. Please share your thoughts and experiences on this. I was looking forward to a position I had in line to work for the feds as soon as I become a citizen but unfortunately there is a freeze in hiring that had been put in place indefinitely. I hear their workforce is going to be decreased even.

Thanks in advance for any info you can share.

  19. correcting my fingerprinting date to sheduled date per biometrics letter. I am thinking about doing a walk-in but accdg to the field office info, I need to make an appt via infopass... decided not to do the walk-in, just in case it screws up my timeline more instead of accelerating the progress...

Adding my fingerprint appointment as they might have changed since the last two times they took 'em...

  20. My son and I just received our biometrics letters. Both of our fingerprinting is scheduled for 09/08/2011.

Does anyone know if its okay to do a walk-in in the local USCIS office and have the fingerprinting done earlier than the scheduled date? Can anyone please let me know what to expect or what is the fingerprinting procedure when I do a walk-in? Wondering if we will be turned away and be told to go back on my scheduled date. Will doing the fingerprinting early make the process faster?

    Thanks for any info.
