Hi everyone ... can somebody please tell me how long it takes to receive the necessary paperwork for the advanced parole ... they should have all my paperwork now (9th May) and I need to go home for a family wedding on July 28th. Can somebody please advise me .

We recently got married. We are waiting for the marriage certificate to come in the mail. Can somebody please advise as to what to do next to ensure we are following the correct procedures and getting everything done as quickly as possible. We also wish to travel home (for me) to England in August, can anyone advise as to which forms etc i must fill out in order to leave the country ( USA) for a couple of weeks.

NO ... what if he stays past the date of his visa and the i94 and lets the K1 run out .... What if he stays here for some time and then finds someone else and they get married . Is that a possibility ? can that be done ?

my i94 runs out March 31st ... will I get a new one or ?? ... What is an EAD and how long does it take to get one? Is there any way to speed this up? I do not have a drivers licence from home. Have had all my lessons and am more than ready to go just need them to let me take it as it is a nightmare getting around! I will have my marriage certificate soon if that will help. you're all right of course .. don't think he's not been told or doesn't know himself .. he is obviously clutching at straws as he is desperate to stay here ... what if he stayed past the I94 expiration date and then got married ( i think he is out of status by a month or so now ...would he encounter a problem the first time he went home and tried to come back ? ) also will the SS number he got be switched off? he has had it since he was a student back in 2000 and he did a years OPT before going home for a bit and coming back with the K1.

Side note but way more important because it involves me lol ! I will soon be married ... do you think I need a lawyer to help me through the whole process .. status changes etc ... getting the forms to leave the country for a week in August (another friends weddding!) ?

I know this sounds like a "I have a friend who" situation but in this case it is true . I have a friend lol .. who has entered the country on a K1 to marry his girlfriend .. who is now having second thouhgts .. Is it possible for him to get a marriage licence with someone else even if he has one with his girlfriend ?

Can somebody please tell me what I can do as i do not have a I94 that is valid for a year. I have a ss number. I will be married soon. Please help as I really need to get a driver's licence. There must be a way !

NYS requires 2 major things and a few minor things before they will issue a driver's license.

Major list (SSN and one of the others required)

• SSN
• Foreign Passport with Valid I-94 card (VALID FOR 1 YEAR or MORE)
• EAD Card.
• Green-card
• Proof of US Citizenship.

The 1+ year I-94 card is what kills K-1 but does not kill K-3 visa holders.

Minor items just show NY address, things like utility bill, mail in persons name addressed to NYS address, bank account checks with persons name.

If you have a license from the UK, continue using it in NYS.

NYS recognizes your foreign driver license if you remain a resident of the nation that issued the license. You do not need to have a NYS driver license to drive in NYS unless you become a resident of NYS.

You become "Resident" when you get your green-card.

For the SSN, they'll take a letter from the SSA saying you are ineligible for an SSN if you're on a K3 without an EAD yet... but yeah, the K-1 is pretty much SOL in NYS.

The NYS dmv website shows how many points each item equals - you need 6. Without an I-94 good for a year or an EAD, you can't get a DL as far as I can determine.

I ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO GET A DRIVERS LICENCE IN THE NEXT MONTH. I DO NOT HAVE AN 1-94 FOR AT LEAST A YEAR. IT IS ONLY UNTIL THE END OF MARCH. THERE MUST BE SOME WAY I CAN DO THIS BEFORE THE END OF A YEAR ?? SOMECODY PLEASE HELP !!!!

I think I posted this forum a little while ago but I'm not great on this site at all and don't know if i got any responses. I despreately need to get my NY State Driver's Licence in the next month or so. Could somebody please advise me as to what paperwork I need to bring with me and what the process will be. I tried to when I was last here but they wouldn't let me as my I20 was going to run out within a year. This time I have my K1 visa until March 31st and will be married in the next 3 weeks. Other than that I do not know what I could bring with me.

thank you karin I had already seen that . I am wondering what other documentation they are referring to when they say "docs proving immigration status" as I do not have any. Just passport, Photo ID and Birth Certificate. Will that be enough?

Hi, I am trying to find out what information I need to bring with me to get my Social Security Number and Card. I have my passport with K1 visa in it(obviously). It has been stamped so that I can work (but it does not say anywhere on the stamp that is the specific purpose of it.) I also have my original birth certificate and a photo id. I have no other documents proving immigration status. Is what I have stated above enough to go to my local office with? Thank you in advance for any help you can give me !
