  1. I see two major things missing from your list - perhaps you already gave them these and didn't include them in your post -

    1) Tax returns in both your names

    2) Utility bills - water/gas/electric/phone etc.

    Good Luck

We already gave them our tax returns (filed jointly). We really don't have any utility bills. We are staying with my uncle, and we pay him rent which also covers the utilities, so no bills. But we explained that to the IO.

I have tried to fill my timeline but it's not working for some reason. We were interviewed a second time almost a year after the first interview, and after the interview, we received this rfe. Our lawyer thinks what we have is enough. I'm gonna get an affidavit from my uncle who we are renting from. Thanks for all the suggestions.

  2. do you have any greeting cards addressed to you both from family or friends? Maybe add an affidvit from friends or family indicating that you are married and living together

We don't have any of the above. I think we can get some affidavits. Just in case we don't, do you think what we have will suffice.

Life insurance, will, medical and I'd still send pictures.

You're right Haole, for sure! life insurance policies nameing each other beneficiary, wills (for both), and pictures (even though they said they didnt want them) :star:

We gave them our life insurance policy and lease with both our names already. I will try and get the affidavits. The rfe is due by the 24th, so I really don't want to cut things close.

  3. Hi All,

    I recently got an RFE for bona fide marriage documentation. My husband and I gave them our lease, life insurance, and some letters from the bank regarding our account at the interview. I guess they want more. So far this is what we are adding;

    1. Copies of our debit cards.

    2. Copies of our credit cards.

    3. Copies of our Macy's cards.

    4. Copies of our JC Pennys cards.

    5. Netflix envelope showing our current address.

    6. The most recent bank statement.

    7. Copy of a voided check from our joint account.

    8. Copy of our car insurance with both our names.

Do you guys think this is enough. Our interviewer did not want any pictures. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

  4. I filed for my AOS in February, 2008. I was interviewed in June. After the interview, the officer requested some documents which I sent in, but I have not heard anything from them since then. My husband and I got a letter addressed only to him, asking him to come to the office next week, and bring his driver's license, his passport, tax returns for the past 3 years, and any other documents he wants the service to consider regarding our relationship. It says the reason for the appointment is Form I-485 and Form I-130 (which are the forms still pending). I'm confused because (a) the letter is only addressed to him and he is the citizen, and (B) there is no mention that this is even an interview (the word interview does not appear anywhere on the letter). We don't know what to expect. Does anyone have any ideas???

  5. Wow...this is funny. My husband and I also had our interview on the same day in Houston. We were also given an RFE, which we submitted right away...and still nothing. As I was informed, local offices don't normally update the case status online when they receive your rfe. As long as you have some sort of confirmation, that it was received by the office you should be fine.

I'm in the same boat as you, and its driving me nuts. I've actually stopped checking my case status online, because seeing the same unchanged message day after day was really getting to me. The only thing I would advise you to do is schedule an infopass. Do you remember the name of the IO that interviewed you?

    Hi everyone............

I was wondering if anyone else had gotten an RFE during the AOS interview and how long did it take to get your green card after submitting the info requested? We had our AOS interview in Houston Tx on the 23rd of june 08 but they said I needed a small pox vaccine, so they gave me a RFE which had to be sent back within 30 days. At the interview they took my I-94. Anyway, we sent in the RFE on july 15, 08 but we still have not heard from them. Any ideas?

When I check my case status it only has the feb 11 reciept date for when I sent in my I-485, nothing more recent. Anyone know who I can call to get more current info, like if they confirm receipt of the RFE sent back to them on the 15th of july. Thanks, Dave and Diep

  6. I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. We had our interview on June 23rd, and at the end we were asked to mail in some more information. The information was received on July 3rd, but we have not heard anything yet. Don't worry I'm sure you will be fine. I think its a good sign that he took the I-94. I was asked for mine but I had misplaced it and didn't have time to file for a replacement.

I'm trying to be positive and patient. I trust everything will work out well, and I hope the same for you.

    Good Luck

  7. I'm not sure what package it was. The IO just flipped through all our paperwork a bunch of times, before asking for the missing form. I would definately take what you have with you to the interview. Better safe than sorry. The annoying thing is that after we got home, I realised that we had a blank forn in our possession all the while. We could have filled it out right there. Anyway we're gonna overnight it to him today. So hopefully we hear something by the end of the week.

    Good luck with your interview.

We also have our AOS interview in houston tomorrow morning........ anyway, I have a set of g-325a forms I filled out the same time my wife filled her's out when we were preparing her AOS package, then I realized the directions did not ask for the G-325a forms for the applicant's spouse so we did not include mine in the application packet. Looks like I better bring them along just in case. Do you know what packet you filed that they say did not include your husbands G-325a forms, because I am pretty sure they were not required with the AOS packet, anyone sure about this? Dave & Diep
  8. I really hope there isn't another interview. The stress of this one nearly drove me crazy. Our lawyer assured us everything was ok, and she stayed behind to speak to the IO after we left. I guess I just have to wait to hear from her. I wanted to ask the status, but I was too nervous to.

    Hi everyone,

I had my interview today in Houston. As far as interviews go, it was quite painless. Rather anti-climatic really. Anyway we got called in by a stern looking but nice guy, and the strange thing is that he never swore us in. He didn't ask the Yes/No questions either. He asked my husband how we met and asked for proof of a bona fide relationship. He then issued an RFE for my husband's (USC) G-325A, which apparently our lawyer never submitted *rolls eyes*. He told us to mail it in and returned my passport and EAD. That was it.

I wanted to remind him to ask me the Yes/No questions.

My problem is I'm worried that since he did not swear us in, he had already made up his mind to deny us since he returned my EAD. My husband says that he was just tired cause we were the last couple to be called in before lunch, and the IO just wanted to be done with us...lol.

    What do you guys think??

    That's strange

He may have just been tired like you said. If he asked how you met then he was supposed to at least swear you in. If you were denied he wouldn't go thru the trouble of asking for more forms either (I would think).

I expect there's no decision and you may have another interview scheduled after you return the G325a. The best time to clarify things is to just ask the status before you leave the interview.

  10. Well we had our AOS interview today at Garden City, Long Island (NY). We waited for about 45 minutes for our name to be called for the interview. The person who interviewed us was VERY friendly and courteous. He didn’t ask too many questions….well I’ll just get to it: WE ARE APPROVED.

Below is a little summary of our interview process.

    My Questions:

    1. What is your wife’s name

    2. What is her Date of Birthday

    3. What you like about her

    4. What don’t you like about her?

    Questions for my Wife:

    1. What is your husband’s name

    2. What is your address

    3. What is your husband DOB….she actually answered this one wrong but I don’t think the guy caught it…lol

    4. What do you like about your husband?

    5. What don’t you like/ what annoys you?

    6. Why do you want to stay in America?

He then asked to see some pictures…we had 4 albums. We browsed through them very quickly. He then asked for all the required paper work.

    I submitted:

    1. The I-864 packet with signed form, job letter, copy of 2007 tax Return with W2, Bank statement, 3 months’ pay stub and 401K statement.

    2. Evidence packet: bank statement, copy of car insurance statement, Health Statement from my employer, some ‘beneficiary’ letters.

He also took 1 picture with both of us for the File.

We were then told to wait for 45 minutes to receive the passport. 45 minutes later we received the passport. It had the 551 stamp inside valid for 1 year and a letter about what the next step is (the Removal of Conditions).

Finally we were told to expect the Green Card within 5-6 weeks!!!!

Quick Question: We did not get back the I-94 Card…is that normal? We kept the EAD card.

NO MORE USCIS till March 2010. YEAH!

Thanks to everyone who helped us out. I wish everyone good luck.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!  I hope this is also the case with mine later on this month.

  11. Before I get into all the details...I just want to thank everyone on here for all the advice. I've been lurking for a while, but have finally come out of the shadows.

On to the issue at hand...my husband and I recently filed for my adjustment of status. I was content to do it on our own, but our families told us to go with a lawyer. We got a "good" lawyer, and gave her all the information sometime in November with the assurance that everything would be filed by Christmas. Last week I got a call from the lawyer's assistant informing me that I had given her the wrong amount for the filing fees (she quoted the old fees), and I needed to also submit Form I-495A and pay the extra $1000. After politely explaining to her that she was wrong about pretty much everything she told me, she then informed me, she would consult with the lawyer and then get back to me  I called the office today, and once again I spoke to the receptionist, and she told me she had mailed out the forms  At this point I was overly excited, and then decided to ask her if she mailed it to the Chicago lockbox, but then she told me that she had mailed it to the Texas address because I live in Houston :o

I'm pretty upset because I am sure all applications need to go to Chicago. I'm not too happy with the lawyer right now. I knew I should have done this myself. My question is, does anyone know if USCIS will return the application to the lawyer so it can be sent to the right location or will be transferred to Chicago. Please help!!!

Hi I can only tell you what happened with our attorney. she mailed our I-130 to ur service center (Nebraska) and it was automatically forwarded to Chicago lock box. If i am reading correctly ALL forms are being sent there for processing. again this is speculation from what i am seeing and hearing and reading.

    Bill

I really hope this is the case in our situation. Thanks for the quick reply.
