  1. Stepdaughter couldn't renew her passport to save her soul, her biological father refused to sign for her, but loved to ###### that we wouldn't let her leave the country to go visit him. Only purpose of having a foreign passport at your US citizenship interview is to verify your trips out of the USA. But if it is expired, naturally, you couldn't make any of these trips. But bring in your expired passport anyway, especially if you did make trips outside of the USA lasting over 24 hours while you were a lawful permanent resident with a valid green card.

Regarding entering a field office, I have entered them all the time without any form of photo identification, just say my wife or stepdaughter is inside. As long as I don't have a camera or a cell phone, fine to go in. But my wife and stepdaughter need to show their whatever appointment letter and green card, I think they want to see their green cards to make sure they are still here legally. They are also searched for cameras and cell phones, never tried to bring in my 30.06, really nothing to hunt in there anyway.

Yeah I hear some field offices are requiring a secondary form of photo identification like a state ID or a drivers' license. Obviously they need psychiatric help in that they are paranoid as you can only get this form of ID if you have a green card to show. Or a born in the USA birth certificate. Wife did get a probationary drivers' license that expired the same day as her EAD card, then another when until her conditional green card expired, then a permanent one with her ten year card. Now all she has to do is to state she is a US citizen, but I gather that varies from state to state. One country, 50 different states, 50 different laws to abide by. Crazy.

I have a valid driving license - they gave me a 4 year one when my conditional green card arrived, I did explain to the nice man who issued it that it was supposed to expire in 2 years not 4 but he said it was fine as it was. Now I know to go to that office 3 minutes before they are due to close :) My husband always gets asked for ID at field offices but he has DoD ID so they accept that. We are planning a trip back home to introduce him to my family sometime next year. If I have a US passport for that it will be fine otherwise I can always renew the British one.

  2. is it a u.s passport then yes get a new one, you will need to make a copy of your passport for the n-400 application, if it's a passport from another country if your not plaining to traval any time soon, i don't know how you go about that ,

I am applying for US citizenship - I don't have a US passport - I need to know if my out of date passport from home will affect my citizenship application.

  3. I've been thinking about getting an online certificate for this BUT I don't really know if spending $1500 is really worth it. (usa careers pricing)

Anybody who is now studying this course or is already working as a Medical Billing and Claims specialist here?

    Any advice? Tips? Info?

How easy is it to get a job afterwards?

How much is the pay for new entry level?

What school did you go to?

DO you really get to work at home after obtaining the certificate or have to have experience first?

    Thanks!

PS: Do I have to get my University degree transcribed for this? TOFEL? GMAT?

I believe most of these courses are just designed as money making schemes by the institutions offering them.

Medical billing and coding is a dying job and is being replaced with automated systems that will process this when the clinician sees the patient. A fair amount of stimulus money has been allocated to help fund Medical offices to buy one step computer systems that will hold medical records and do the billing and coding at the same time.

  4. Hi all

I got my EAD yesterday and start to find a job. I am an IT professional with 3 years' company experience and 3 years private. Now how to find a job that suits to me in America? Thanks.

I think it really is a case of keep sending in applications and treat your job hunt as a full time job.

I applied for any job I felt I could do whether it was in my field or not.

I kept 3 master resumes, each showing different aspects of my previous experience and qualifications. They were all truthful but played up different aspects of my skills. I would then tailor the best fitting master to the job I was applying for and make sure to keep a copy of which resume I sent for which job.

I finally applied for an admin job with a small company in my field. Three hours after I faxed my resume I got a call and was interviewed the following day. I was offered the job and will start with admin and move into IT training and some training with Microsoft and Intel for the technical side of the job. The good thing about a small company is that there is room to expand the job to fit the company's needs and make myself indispensable.

Don't just look for IT jobs but look for IT companies where you can use other transferable skills just to get your foot in the door.

I really didn't expect my first job in America to be in a field I was qualified for but it happened. I'm an ex nurse with a Masters in IT and will be working for in medical records IT systems.

  5. Since I got here three years ago I've been busy caring for some of my husband's relatives. I have just been offered my first paid job here and am unsure of what paperwork the employer and I have to file since I am not a citizen. I have a 10 year green card and have my social security card. Does anyone know if there is any paperwork for me that is different from that used when employing a citizen.

My new employer owns a very small business and has never employed anyone with a green card before. He has no HR backup at all.

I can hardly believe my luck that I've been offered a job in my field and with the chance of more training to get some American certifications. I just don't want anything to go wrong and don't want him to decide it's too complicated to hire me. I am supposed to start first thing Monday morning.

  6. :o So for such industries as mining, there is almost no difference between the US and third-world?

    :crying:

Nothing has improved in 40 years I'm afraid. Even when I was a child I heard my father and my uncles talking about how dangerous it was to be a miner in the USA. Not one of them would have considered working for an American mining company. They were all miners or mining engineers working in Scotland in old pits with narrow seams that made getting coal out virtually impossible with machines so they all worked by hand cutting and hauling. The biggest thing for them was that by working in a nationalized industry their managers had to abide by safety regulations and though they all got hurt now and again I only know of one fatality in 40 years in the mines around home. It breaks my heart when I see the high fatality rate here as I still remember waiting with my friends back in 1967 to know if my father or theirs was the one who died or if they would all be coming home. I would never wish that on anyone. He arrived with a couple of burst fingers that he got trying to save his friend.

My thoughts are with everyone closely involved in this latest disaster.

  7. Hi All

have ben trying to print out my skype and mobile phone records from the pc but am worried about the way they appear

with skype ive just been copying and pasting teh window where past calls come up but when i print it out it really doesnt PROVe much it is just loads of dates times numbers and minutes

with tmobile my bill comes up to print as an exel spread sheet

are these really proof of an ongoing relationship or do they need bills with company headed notepaper etc

    if so

how do you get one from skype? ( i know i can pay for bills from tmobile)

( oooh just a thought - i suppose i can do screen shots but you dont get many calls listed in oen screen shot with skype)

sorry if i am garbling and not really making sense

Relax. Just print a few screen shots showing regular communication. In London you probably won't even be asked for them. I certainly wasn't and when I offered them I was told there was no need to show them.

  8. If a child asked me to buy her a Barbie doll I would bring back a doll in a box that said it was a Barbie NOT a Teresa. Any child that can read even a little wouldn't believe a doll in a box labeled Teresa was a Barbie. Maybe Mattel need to think about the name on the boxes as well as the fact their black dolls are not really black but just brown coloured caucasian dolls. No wonder the white dolls sell faster.

When my niece was small she has a collection of Barbies in every skin tone and hair colour I could find and she was happy with all of them. She was too young to read the names on the boxes.

  9. A 4-year-old epileptic Minnesota boy, who used to suffer more than 100 seizures a day, has been cured — thanks to an extremely high-fat diet, wcco.com reported.

Medication wasn't even touching Max Irvine's condition, and his parents watched hopelessly as their son's condition worsened.

But Dr. Elaine Wirrell, a pediatric neurologist at the Mayo Clinic, suggested Max try the Ketogenic diet, which is low in carbohydrates and very high in fats. Wirrell said research hints the high-fat diet stabilizes brain cells and alters neurotransmitters.

Max's meals consisted of butter and bacon; he was drinking Canola oil as a beverage, and to his parents' amazement, the diet worked.

"I just remember having tears, and thinking how can I be giving my child so much fat," said Kristine Irvine, Max's mother.

Wirrell said she monitors Max's cholesterol, but that kids on this diet do not typically have cholesterol or lipid problems. Today, Max is not taking any medication2_bing.gif and he is not suffering any seizures.

    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,583429,00.html

Ketogenic diets are nothing new. I had a few patients who were doing this back in the late 80's and early 90's.

  10. My UK passport never had my name right as I have a double barreled first name and no middle name. My passport just showed the first half of my name and the initial of the second word as if it was a middle name. Of course the State Dept. and USCIS insisted on everything reading just like my passport and I'm stuck with a pile of paperwork that doesn't have my real name on it.

I just completed lifting conditions on my green card and want to get my name corrected before I apply for citizenship. I am so sick of people referring to me with only half a name and every bank, doctor's office etc. insists on using what they call my legal name.

Does anyone know how I get get things changed on my green card and SS card?

  11. Until now, my Irish friends kept me in tea supplies, but I think I need to make the leap and buy some US brand tea. I have had some standard black tea here at friends and in hotels, but it is usually very weak. I am not looking for "luxury" tea such as Earl Grey or Aasam tea, but a standard, strong black tea (similar to Barry's, Lyons or PG Tips in the UK/ Ireland) to have with milk and sugar. Comfort tea! I am looking for something I can get easily, ie in Walmart, Harps or similar. Suggestions?

Tetley's British Blend is about the nearest thing to British/Irish tea. I get it in almost any supermarket here around Philly. I have found a few places round Philly that also stock Barry's. I've learned to carry teabags with me when I go out just to make sure I don't get stuck with a cup of dishwater.

  12. T'was the night of Thanksgiving and out of the house

Tiger Woods came a flyin', chased by his spouse.

She wielded a nine iron and wasn't too merry,

'Cause some bimbo's phone number was in his Blackberry.

He'd been cheatin' on Elin, and the story progressed.

Bimbo after ho' stepped up and confessed.

He'd been cheatin' with Holly, and Jaimee, and Cori,

With Joselyn, and Kalika. The world had the story.

From the top of the Tour to the basement of blues,

Tiger's sad sordid tale was all over the news.

With hostesses, waitresses, he had lots of sex,

When not in their pants, he was sending them texts.

Despite all his cryin' and beggin' and pleadin',

Tiger's wife went investin' in a mansion in Sweden.

And I heard her exclaim from her white Escalade,

"If you're gettin' laid, then I'm gettin' paid."

She's not pouting, in fact, she is full of good cheer,

Her pre-nup made Christmas come early this year.

  13. BY, why the ** would anyone have to tell you what visa they are on? Seriously, get a grip.

What this motherfvcker did is sick, tremendously so; and I would never condone that #######. NEVER. Could we please focus on the fact that a 4 year old girl has been forever tainted by a sick #######? Or is a soapbox moment on illegal immigration worth more than that child's dignity?

The man's actions were sick and illegal but personally I find your attitude even sicker.

You say an innocent child is forever tainted through something that is not her fault.

That stinks and it's attitudes like yours that make it harder for people who have been abused to get over it.

Let's not overly focus on off handed words used on a message board.

Perhaps you are using "tainted" in a way in which it was not intended?

I doubt Len is suggesting the child is "damaged goods" for life (jeez)

But you must admit this act, could possible have long lasting effect, especially if it is handled incorrectly.

Thanks. that was, indeed, my intent.

And, if not treated properly by both physicians and psychologists/psychiatrists, the effects of this ####### on a 4 year old CAN and WILL ruin her life.

Sexual abuse doesn't need to ruin people's lives. It's guilt and shame caused by people who treat the victim as different that causes more damage. Len's off handed choice of words reflects an attitude that is far more damaging in the long term than the initial assault.

  15. Stephen Hawking is quite wealthy and thus able to afford healthcare unavailable in the UK. He routinely travels to the USA for procedures and therapies he can't get in Britain. He does this all on his own dime in addition to supporting a system that would not work for him.

I don't think anyone denies that for the upper crust, American medical care is the best in the world.

The people we are trying to look out for right now are those who are unable to access any level of meaningful care.

In a system like Britain's, those without wealth are subject to rationed care. They ARE unable to access any meaningful level of care. They fare worse than those without wealth in the USA, who can go to any hospital in the country for medical attention, with or without insurance. It would certainly be foolish to lower the care available for those currently covered by private insurance, in order to do a national health plan that will lower care for those currently without it! The whole thing is a government scam to get more money and power over the citizens.

Your post shows very little knowledge of the British healthcare system. I lived in the UK for 45 years and worked for the NHS for 25.

Britain's health care system does not ration the care of those without wealth. The care provided is available to all who qualify for it and to many who do not. Care is provided on a basis of medical need and cost effectiveness. Procedures that have not been clinically proven are generally not available. For example, arthroscopic knee surgery is not provided by the NHS as clinical evidence shows that patient recovery rates are faster is no surgery is given but the patient simply has intensive physiotherapy. In the US insurance companies will not pay for the physical therapy without the patient having surgery first.

Private health insurance in the UK allows holders to avoid waiting for minor procedures until they are clinically needed but to have surgery at a date and time the patient wants. Emergency care is not provided by private hospitals and patients with post surgical complications are routinely transferred to NHS hospitals.

No private hospital in the UK will treat anyone without insurance or the money to pay but NHS hospitals will accept any and all patients who go to the Accident and Emergency Dept. It's become increasingly common in recent years for Americans with or without insurance to travel to the UK, ostensibly on vacation, and present themselves for emergency treatment in the hope the bill will never catch up. Thankfully British hospitals are getting better at following up foreign patients who abuse the system.

Here in America our health insurance premium is 30% of our income and we get faster treatment than we would in the UK but we are limited as to how much treatment we get. If we lived in the UK we would pay 11% of our income for government run healthcare with no limits to care, this money would also cover the equivalent of social security and we would have the option of private insurance to speed up care if we wanted it. I know what system I prefer.

  16. One of my nephews never learned to crawl but scooted until he could walk. He had a severe cardiac abnormality and when he finally had corrective surgery just before his second birthday I noticed that the other babies in the ward were all scooters like him. When I asked the nurse she said this was normal for cardiac babies. The staff there thought the babies found scooting more comfortable as it put less strain on their lungs which were compromised because of the severity of their heart problems. I've never saw anything in the medical research to back up this view but it does make sense.

  17. Ah right, that helps a lot - at least I can explain to the consular officer the events surrounding my criminal history! I have done so much researching over the last week, and by the looks of things my crime wasn't a CIMT, and that battery very rarely is. It's so nerve racking though, really just wish they would give me the interview date already so I could get it over and done with.

    Thanks for the reply!

Your own statement may not be what the Embassy wants. They may ask you for a copy of the original police report. If you can go in person to the police station in question you can asl them for a copy of the report. If the report no longer exists then you can ask them for a letter stating that fact. I had a minor conviction when I was 18 and there were no records of it at all but I declared it to be on the safe side. I included a letter from the county court that the court that dealt with me no longer existed, that the records were missing and that there was no way to provide any official record. I also asked for and got a letter from the local Procurator Fiscal (Scotland) to explain how minor the offence was. I had no trouble getting my visa but the subject was brought up again at my green card interview. I found both the courts, the police and the prosecutors very helpful when I explained I needed these documents so that I could travel and get married. I think most bureaucrats are romantics at heart.
