It was stamped on both entry and exit, I had to obtain a re-entry permit in fact. I'm really thinking that the people at the call center were wrong or misunderstood my question, because it just doesn't make sense, does it? I'll likely just try to file, worst case is they tell me to come back later.
You got transferred to Japan? Whereabouts?

Hi all,
I know it has been a long time since my last update but a lot has happened since then. We got married on Christmas! I got the perfect ring while on business in South Korea.
Unfortunately it seems that that trip to Korea may have buggered us a bit. The Tokyo embassy allows people to do a DCF only after being resident in Japan for 6 months. A call to the embassy "hotline" -- really a call center in India with a bad connection -- informed that the 6-month period is to be calculated from the day I came back to Japan, not from when I obtained my work visa. If true that puts us in a tight spot timewise.
So, does anyone know for sure how that period is calculated? My wife is going insane over this.

The city hall in our city in Japan wants a certificate of nationality, apparently my passport and birth certificate are not enough. I can't find any information about this on the US embassy's homepage... does anybody know about it, and how to get it? What forms do I need?

We were planning to get married in Japan, but maybe just at City Hall... trying to think of ways to put together an affordable ceremony here. We do have an apartment in both our names, and will have the baby here too. Probably not going to the States until August. And just like Scorpainkh's suggestions we will have a very nice, cheap ceremony there!

Ok, thanks.
I have another question -- my fiance and I probably cannot afford to have a wedding ceremony in Japan, where they are very expensive (her brother's last weekend cost $30K). If we don't have wedding photos, are we less likely to get her visa approved? I remember reading that they are very important.

I'm very grateful for everyone's reply -- thanks! It's quite reassuring to know we shouldn't encounter any extra bumps. Just to be clear, I know about the I-130, but what is the DCF? And, is there a possibility I will have to go to the States to do any paperwork before she comes, or can everything be done in Japan?

I'm an American, and my girlfriend is Japanese (we are staying in Japan). We weren't planning on doing this for a while, but she just got pregnant so we've decided to speed up our marriage plans. We haven't decided which country to live in for the next year, but it very well might be America, we we are preparing for that now.
There are some complications.. we were planning to go to grad school and her applications are all finished, plus obviously, she is pregnant. Can anyone tell me how those facts might affect our visa process? I'd be really grateful if anyone could help out...
I-864 -- calculating annual income
in IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedures
Posted
I'm not sure how to fill out my annual income for the I-864 affidavit of support form. Since graduating from college I've been working as a teacher of English as a second language, but I've had two long periods of not working. The most recent period was from last May to Last October, so about 6 months. And my current job is nearly finished and then I have to get a new one. So I'm not really sure what to put as my "annual" income since I've only worked 7 of the past 12 months, but when I do work my salary puts me well above 125% of the federal poverty line for 2. Also, in the fall I plan to attend graduate school, so obviously then my salary will be zero.
And my wife has a steady job now, but in the fall she starts a TA-ship while in grad school, so she pays no tuition and receives a $12,000 stipend. If I produce proof that she has this job lined up, should I record it on the I-864? I'm unsure because the instructions for filling out the form say it should only be if she has the job now and it will continue to provide her income after she immigrates. So I'm uncertain what exactly that means.
