  1. Here's our situation.

3 weeks after entering the US we went to the Social Security Office to apply for my SSN. We were told that my information wasn't in the verfication system yet and that we should come back once we're married and to bring the marriage certificate along. So today I went back to the SSO with all the docs, just to find out that my information is still not in the verfication system.

Any suggestions or advise from VJers in a similar situation is greatly appreciated (starting to worry that all my info got lost).

    Thanks!!

  2. Every embassy is different. You're still in the early stages of the process. I would call the US embassy in Georgia once they have received the approved application from the NVC. If you are planning to go to Georgia anyway once the interview is scheduled, you're fiance can take you're passport with him to the interview to show that you're there.

I wouldn't worry to much about attending the interview. From what I've read on VJ, the majority of petitioners do not attend their SO's interview. You'll be fine either way!

    Wishing you a speedy journey!!!

  3. I'm sorry you're having a hard time. I can imagine that it's getting to you living with your mother-in-law and just sitting around waiting for the EAD to come through. I'd have a talk with her and tell her that you need your space without being rude. You have to set boundaries now. If you wait too long your mother-in-law will continue to interfere in your life.

On another note, talk to your husband and see if there is any chance that the two of you can get your own place. Even though I do get along very well with my in-laws, I know it would never work if we lived under one roof. Eventually, those tensions will have a negative impact on your marriage.

Like the other posters said, try to get out of the house as much as possible. Take long walks, etc.

I hope everything will fall into place for you!!!

  4. Some of the registries have the option for your guests to purchase gift cards. Personally, I'd never give anything with its monetary value on it. However, I do think that it makes sense to set up a registry. That way people see what you really need. Your wedding guests will bring gifts anyway, so you may as well point them into the right direction.

Have a wonderful wedding! All that really counts on that day anyway is that you and your SO are getting married.

  5. It looks like VSC has slowed down considerably compared to the first quarter of this year. As long as you have the tracking number and you have the proof that the package was received at VSC you have a reference for follow-up. I would wait another week and then call VSC to check. I remember reading posts where it took 2 months in some cases until the check was cashed.

  6. If you're more comfortable going through this process with the help of an attorney you should do so (my fiance felt the same way and we did hire a lawyer). I know we could've done it without their help. All they do is fill out the forms for you and put all the supporting docs (that you have to compile anyway and provide the lawyer with) in order. We chose a law firm by its reputation and proximity since my fiance found it easier to just run by their offices to drop off docs instead of mailing them. We are in the Atlanta area as well. PM me if you need more information.

Looking back at it, I wish we would've spent the money on something other than attorney fees.
