Hello everyone,

I was hoping to get some help from you guys since I can't find the answer anywhere else. We were told by a relative few weeks back that a person can take the citizenship tests in language other than English. I've not read this anywhere in my Google search. I know that if a person is over 55 and have been a green card holder for 15 years then they're not required to take English test. But I think they still have to take the civic test and that too in English language, correct?

We're looking to see if my mom can study and take test in one of the Indian languages such as Hindi.

Well if a person is applying to become a citizen of this (or any other) country and has lived over 15 years in the same country, it's a common sense that it will be able to speak and understand the language of the country he/she desires to be a citizen of.

So the answer is NO - whoever wants to become a US citizen must at least understand the language.

We have had the Oath in Sacramento today as well. The largest two groups were Indians (about 150) and Philippinos (about 140) out of about 790 new citizens. There were about 60 people from Russia, Ukraine, and Moldova.

It was fun! There was just one representative from most of the European countries - it was good that all others cheered up for us! Great experience - at the IO who interviewed me 2 weeks earlier was the same who gave me my naturalization certificate today (it was a nice surprise to see him again).

I went to the local Social Security Office to update my info - they said it will take about 4 weeks to get the new card. I hope it's shorter than that, because I need to change my drivers license also (I did a name change, so I want to be up to date on all paperwork).

Congrats on your pregnancy too! Good luck with your new baby next year (when are you due, by the way)! Oh yeah, I totally understand how the pregnancy hormones can get to a person! Lol...laughing is not that bad...Just say that it is the baby laughing... Lol..wait to you get to the baby kicking at you and going into labour....at that time you'll be needing a lot of laughter to get through the pain....(but that's another story...)...Good to hear too, that your husband came along (and the baby inside of you came along too), as that certainly helps too.

Thank you for the wishes I'm due the first week of May. If you think I wasn't laughing at the interview - wrong. I was giggly the whole time and it was so hard to stop it But at least I'm sure that the IO had fun with me, so everything went just fine. My journey is on Wednesday Nov 18th almost over (the day of your interview) - this is when I have the oath. I'm looking forward to be done with it, so I can be more free to travel and everything else. GOOD LOOK ON YOUR INTERVIEW TOO!!!! Waiting to read about it later on!

Is it okay for my husband and baby to attend the interview with me? I thought it might be helpful as my citizenship application is based on my marriage but I am not sure if they would even be allowed in. It would be great to hear if anyone has experience with this. Thanks,

Hi everyone,

I got married in 2005,and in feb 2009 i got my permanent green card and now i want to file for my citizenship. My husband filed for divorce (1 week ago) just before I could apply for my citizenship.

Now my problem is that he does not want to help me get my citizenship and i need his info to fill out the form H-400.We are still going to be married for 6 months (we live in Ca) till the divorce is pronounced. Is there any way to find out his info if i dont have access to his personal documents?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You got your green card in February 2009 and you want to apply for a citizenship now???? You need to wait 2 more years for that (if based on marriage) and 5 years if based only on residency. Basically you will be able to apply February 2011 (minus 90 days if you're in hurry).

4 days more to interview date, im really nervouse already, i learn all question n even i check fm internet n test by my self some time i ask my friend to read question n i reply the answer,

Relax - it's really easy!!! You will be laughing at yourself late on. Once you hit the local office and see all the people around you waiting for the same thing, you will understand that there is nothing you should be nervous about! Good luck! You're almost there

Can someone please advise what my wife needs to take into her N-400 interview?

1) I know that she needs her Ukrainian Passport.

2) I know that she needs her 10-yr GC.

3) I know that she needs other ID like her Driver's License.

I have read where tax transcripts may also be required? We had included them as a part of our

N-400 Application Submission (2008, 2007 & 2006) but do they also need to be taken to the interview?

I'd take copies of most everything you originally submitted.

I took all the originals of the papers I have sent to them. And just in case I took some new utility bills - it never hurts to be ready At the end they didn't ask for any of it, but I couldn't risk it - getting so far and to make a mistake at the end is really not my style. Hi Folks....

Seems like everyone is getting a biometrics letter lickety-split after submitting for N-400 application..one week later, two weeks later at the most!

We filed N-400 Oct 15 .. they received Oct 16 and not a peep since except for the NOA receipt of application (Oct 21)? The USCIS web site says "last touched Oct 23)" - three weeks and counting ....

Sent to Lewisville, TX but now in Lee's Summit-land!

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!!

I wouldn't worry to much about it - see this week and if nothing comes in just make info pass. But I have the feeling you will get it this weeks!

HI,

I'm not sure if you can do that - I know that you can put time out of the country, for a time prior of the application. On the interview they will ask you if there were any changes.

But you should know that you will get biometrics letter soon after you file (around 2 weeks later) and if you're out of the country that will postpone your application for uncertain time. Can't you just file after you're back in the States??? Good luck!

I am happy for you. Please let us know when you receive the OL. There is only one Oath Ceremony in Sacramento in November, as far as I know, and it is on Nov. 18th.

Sac rocks! Just got the OATH LETTER - November 18th. It was send just a day after my interview! Almost done guys!

Slightly confused as to why you are having a court ordered name change but everything you have listed sounds good to go!

Oh, the name change is happening as part of the oath. I thought it comes with some kind of Court documentation of Name Change?

You're right! It does come with a court order even if part of the naturalization process. I requested name change and had to sign few extra papers on the interview and I was told that one if the papers goes through judge, who needs to sign it too. This happens before the Oath Ceremony, but I'll get it on that day.

I had my interview today in Sacramento (Capital Mall). Was there 30 min prior and they called me on time.

First thing were the civic questions; answers - give up loyalties to other countries; New York harbor; George Washington, Arnold Schwarzenegger; Civil Rights Movement; and I don't remember the last one. I was told to write down "The President lives in the White House" and that was the end of the test. Then we went through my application if an changes and I was given a letter with approval notice and information paper about the oath ceremony.

The IO had some problems with the computer so it took me longer to get out (it was giving him some errors), but the procedure lasted about 10-15 minutes. And an advice - don't take your cell phones - we did the mistake, so DH had to go back to the car.

I also requested a middle name change and was told there is no delay about it and I'll have the oath ceremony next month (I was told the date, but still waiting for the letter before I share it out loud).

Good luck to the other two guys here from Sacramento - nothing to worry about. Everyone was living the building fast and happy. Just make sure you come early enough, because it's hard to find parking (there is a park house with 15 dollars flat rate 2 blocks down the street).

i went to my interview today here in s.j puerto rico wow amazing its so easy i passed there's a few people went i came. and keep calling their name and keep coming more people is not really busy though and i talked some other they came from dominican republic mostly and one agentina and one european wow not really busy at that time and the only i can say to my applicant fellows they really hard time to couch up english theres one guy from dominican rep. oh my goshhh they really hard time..well i hope they pass people out there. i didnt says good luck bec. the IO take me in other way. well IO told take 2 months to get the oath ceremony...@&*^ that long i said to my self. well anyway i dont have any problem now so the only one i can wait the oath finally...

At least they start looking to August filler. So did your online update changed today or few days ago.

That's a good question, but I'm not sure about it - this was the first time I checked online. It might have been there for a while... Hopefully IL is on it's way, otherwise those guys in Sac are extremely slow compare to the other offices.

Not yet! I'm going like crazy after the mailman every day! But I just checked my status online and it says that I'm forwarded to the local office for a standard interview. So I hope I'll get the letter in the mail soon too. I guess there are a bit more applicants in our local office then some other areas - on the website of USCIS you can see the processing times and for Sacramento N_400 is March 2009 - so they're kind of behind. I'll update once I know more...

Send it to the Texas Lockbox, if you're not living overseas or don't have orders to move overseas. Good luck!

P.S: I send my file to Arizona Lockbox (we live in California) and all the other spouses I know did the same...

Many of the processing centers have a strict schedule and won't let people just to walk in. You can fill out the second part of the letter and ask to reschedule - no brainer there...
