They really only care about the outbound ticket for visitors, not immigrants.  In our experience there was not a question about the ticket type, and I don’t know of anyone else that’s been asked.  It’s not unusual for someone to arrive to activate their visa and return to finish up loose ends in their home country.  With the visa, your spouse can travel in and out again so I don’t see a problem or a reason it would be looked at.

Thank you so much for the quick reply! We may do it that way then, unless the ticket prices miraculously end up going down once the visa arrives.

  2. Hello,

We just got our IR-1 visa approved on December 12th, 2023!!

We are now waiting for the visa to arrive and plan on booking the flight ticket once it arrives.

I was wondering when booking flight tickets if I need to book a one-way ticket for my spouse or if it is okay to book a round-trip ticket and then cancel the return flight upon arrival to the US? I am asking because the one-way tickets seem to be way more expensive (twice as much) than round-trip tickets. Has anyone else booked their flight to the US this way?

    Very nice - congratulations!  Similarly,

October 13, 2023 - Submitted all documents to NVC via CEAC

    October 29, 2023 - Submitted additional documents

    November 7, 2023 - DQ

Now just awaiting interview date.  I was wondering how backlogged NVC is post-DQ and awaiting interview dates so this gives me some hope.  The category for us is IR5 (parents of US citizens).

Congratulations!!! It took us 3 weeks to get ours by email, this might also depend on the consulate. I hope you get your interview date soon!!

    Hello everyone,

We have an update! We just got our I-130 approved on August 3rd, 2023!! We are still waiting for the approval letter to come in the mail though. Does anyone know when we should expect to receive the NVC welcome letter?

    Hey everyone,

Here are some updates from our case:

September 29th, 2023 We submitted all of our documents to NVC through CEAC.

October 6th, 2023 : We ended up having to resubmit one and we resubmitted it on this date.

    October 16th, 2023 : We got DQ!!

November 6th, 2023 : Received our Interview Date by email!

Does anyone know if they also mail out a letter before the interview or if we need to print out the email that we received and bring it to the interview?

Looks like you have everything necessary - I'd enclose the copy of the requirements (like you did here) and email NVC to re-check and process. They could have a new person dealing with an NVC process.

Hello, thank you for replying to my question. I did send an inquiry, they replied back to me with "The document you previously submitted is illegible or unacceptable per reciprocity. Please resubmit so NVC can review your case." And they said that "if you cannot submit a required document, you must send a detailed explanation through CEAC." My husband, the principle immigrant, does not reside in Bosnia currently, he only temporarily resided there during the time he went to University there. Is it possible that he does not need to provide that document that they are asking for because we asked the court and they said that the one they gave us is the only document he is allowed to get, since he is not a resident there anymore.

  6. Hello,

My husband (beneficiary) went to University abroad in Bosnia and Herzegovina, so he was temporarily living there for some time. He had to obtain 2 Police Certificates, the one from the Ministry of Interior got accepted, but the other one from the Municipal Court (Opcinski Sud) got rejected. So I was wondering if there is anyone else that had to submit documents from Bosnia and Herzegovina and if you could give me the name of that second document that we need to obtain because it only says "Both the Policijsko Uvjerenje o nekaznjavanju and Opstinski Sud are required for immigrant visa purposes.". What is the name of the document required by the Municipal Court (Opcinski Sud)? And did you upload that second one under "Police Certificate" on the CEAC website?

This is what it says is required from Bosnia and Herzegovina, they do not give the name for the document from the Municipal Court:

I am from the Balkan, they do require 2 police documents (criminal and penal background). That's what I got and We'll see, I am still waiting for an update.

    Hello,

We just got an update for one of our documents that it was rejected, I was wondering if you know the specific name for the document that we need to obtain. It says for Bosnia "Both the Policijsko Uvjerenje o nekaznjavanju and Opstinski Sud are required for immigrant visa purposes.", we submitted the

Police Certificate "Policijsko Uvjerenje o nekaznjavanju" issued by the Ministry of Interior and that was accepted, but the other document that we also submitted under Police Certificate from the Minicipal Court (Opstinski Sud) was rejected. So I was wondering what second document you uploaded from the court if you know the name for it in Bosnian? Because apparently we did not receive the correct document from the Minicipal Court.

We put the translations in the same pdf as the foreign document and gave it a descriptive name like Marriage_Certificate_and_English_translation.pdf

Thank you so much for the quick reply! I will be sure to be precise with naming the translated documents!

Did you have to include a proof of domicile, if so, did you include all of the supporting documents in one pdf file?

  9. For the NVC stage, I was wondering if we can combine the translated police certificate document with its original in one PDF document, or if we should upload the translated document separately and the original separately?

Also for the proof of domicile, I wrote a letter that lists the steps I have taken to maintain my US domicile and included supporting documents for this. Is it okay to upload all of these supporting documents in the same PDF file under the proof of domicile letter or should I separate each supporting document on the list and upload each separately? I read about others getting RFE's for combining some of their financial documents, so I am wondering if this applies to the other documents that I have mentioned here?

What happens when you print the form?  Do you see the barcode?  I can't really replicate as I use the full version of Adobe Acrobat, and DO see the barcode.

The barcode still isn't showing up when I print the form. I am using a Mac OS, so I'm not sure if that is the reason as to why it is not showing up. Maybe I don't have the correct Adobe Acrobat for my Operating System? My husband tried on his laptop which has Windows and it seems to show the barcode on his Adobe Acrobat.

Btw if a question is Not Applicable to me, can I write "NA" instead of "N/A", for some reason it does not let me write symbols digitally in Adobe Acrobat on some questions. Or should I stick to handwriting "N/A"?

  11. Hi everyone,

I am currently in the process of filling out the AOS Form I-864, and I was wondering if I can fill out some information on my computer and handwrite the rest of the fields that my laptop does not allow me to fill out digitally? Has anyone submitted their form where they filled out some fields digitally and some handwritten?

Also, when I initially download the form the barcode is visible at the bottom of the pages, but when I open it in my Adobe Reader the barcode disappears (I did update my Adobe Reader and am still faced with this issue). I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue with their form and if they were able to solve the issue or is it okay to submit the form without the barcode at the bottom?

  12. Hello,

I have a quick question regarding the joint sponsor. Since we will need a joint sponsor for our immigration case, does the joint sponsor need to provide their last 3 years of Tax Returns or do they need to provide their Tax Return Transcripts? Along with that do they need to provide the W2's and/or 1099's from those years? Would they also need to submit a letter of employment as well as paystubs of their current income? I have been researching this topic and I see everyone is submitting different documents when it comes to the joint sponsor, some more than others. So I am not sure how much we need to actually submit or if we should go ahead and submit everything that I listed above? Is there an actual list that says what the joint sponsor needs to provide?

Update: We woke up to a welcome email from the NVC this morning (August 7th, 2023)!! They included our NVC case number and Invoice ID number in the email. I'm assuming that the welcome letter will also come by mail at some point during this process?

The answer to the question is probably "NO" because your parents only needed to apply for your passport.  Getting a certificate of citizenship is purely optional and an unnecessary expense.  I would simply answer the question with a NO and move on.  If your answer is wrong, it is a meaningless mistake.

Thank you so much! I will just do it this way and answer “No”.

I absolutely second what this person said. We were under 18 when my parents were naturalized, so they didn't get the certificates for us. They just automatically got us passports.

I also doubt that my parents got it for us, because my mom was saying that they didn’t pay that much.

  17. 8 minutes ago, Villanelle said:

Are you sure your parents got a certificate for you?

When one naturalizes and is able to include their children as you described above- the certificate is not automatically issued.  Nor is the passport.

To obtain a certificate you or your parents would have needed to file the n600. Its currently apx 600$ or so. Not sure how much it would have cost back then but it was always expensive (significantly more than a passport) and involves sending various supporting paperwork and takes a decent amount of time to get back. The certificate is similar to your birth certificate in the way its stressed to you that it is super important and should be kept with secure documents as its a 'one of a kind' document like your birth certificate or marriage certificate would be.

Obtaining the n600 certificate is optional. Majority of people only opt to get the passport as its easier and cheaper. Both establish citizenship proof however the certificate is needed (and only the certificate) as the passport isn't enough in very limited scenarios such as specific jobs with security clearances.

Please double check with your parents that they actually did file for the certificate. Its very odd for someone to do so and then simply misplace it.  Perhaps show them a picture of what the certificate would look like and explain the process and cost of it to be sure they actually did this because they may have just obtained passports for you all and theres nothing wrong with that, as I said you don't necessarily need the certificate in life except in very narrow circumstances which this is not.

They may be thinking of other paperwork you are given when naturalizing that has been since misplaced. Some of it might have referred to you being a derivative on their naturalization but papers like that are irrelevant.

There also is a section on the forms where you can enter additional explanations for whatever question number you may need to attach an explanation for.

Thank you for the thorough explanation! I will definitely double check with them and see if they ever even filled that form out and paid the $600. As you said, they might have gotten it confused with some other paperwork that they received. Especially if it was not necessary for them to fill out. I also find it odd that we cannot find it anywhere if they did obtain one, considering my mother keeps paperwork from even before I was born. I wish there was a quick way to find out whether you even got one or not.

The same thing happened with me (parents naturalized and I was a child) but I never got a certificate. I think your passport is more than enough proof that you are a citizen. I just used my passport and it was fine.

You can answer yes and then add a note on the last page that you've lost it or can't find it. Just be honest. But definitely add your passport as proof of citizenship.

Thank you so much for helping! Did you also submit the I-130 online? If so, does it let you go to the next section without putting in your Certificate number? I’m not sure what I would write in that box if it doesn’t.

I’m just afraid to get an RFE for the certificate and then not be able to send it to them on time, if that makes sense.

I don't know if this will help or if its relevant but what if you submitted a Freedom of Information  Act request through  uscis.gov online account. I have read that you can request your immigration file and your certificate of citizenship should be there, right? It's just an idea....they won't give you a copy of it but maybe your certificate number and bio data will bethere? As for proof of citizenship, you can just use your passport.

I will definitely read into this, thank you! So you can request this through the uscis.gov website?

  20. Hello,

I am a US Citizen, and I got citizenship through my parent who naturalized when I was a child at the time. I am planning to fill out the I-130 online for the spousal visa, petitioning for my spouse, but there is a question asking whether I have ever obtained a Certificate of Citizenship. I have asked my parents and they said that I got one at the time, but we cannot find it anywhere! I was wondering if there is a way to still fill out the form online without answering yes or no to the question, or without providing the number of the certificate. Could I just send all pages of my US passport as proof of citizenship? But then how would I get around the yes/no question and the question asking for the number of the certificate, I wouldn’t be able to answer no if I received one before? I was reading online it takes so long to get a new one, so is there a way to fill the form out without providing the Certificate? I really do not want to get an RFE for this. And it would be unfortunate if I had to wait an extra 5-8 months for them to send me a new Certificate of Citizenship, and only then start our spousal visa process.
