  1. HELP! :help:

Somebody knows what would happen to all my documents which are in the famous sealed brown envelope when i am at the port of entrance in USA?

Will they just check it and give it all back to me or will they check it and keep it?

I ask because we plan to marry the first week I arrive, then we want right away to apply for AOS, but some of the original documents which are required for AOS apply

are in that envelope. Ah and i thought the stress part was done

I'm afraid it's bad news because they keep it. :(

I can't help you with ideas on how to get it back, pehaps someone else will come along who's been in a similar situation.

    Good luck with everything.

    Gillian

    Thank you Gillian,

Yes bad news, the vox populi says they keep it. I feel so upset  that means to me "another divorce certificate, translate it, apostille it, new medicals, new everything! it was ein kampf to get most documents since I live in Sweden, but l am leaving for USA after tomorrow, I am Swiss, born in Mexico, divorced in Sweden. It means to me... again kind of international contacts to get my original documents... again.

I don't understand them it is so illogical!

    Hi

The stress part will first begin now my friend.

I really hope you didn't open the envelope.

Yes they will keep your papers at the entrance.

When filing your application for AOS you shall send certified copies of the originals.

By the time you are going to the AOS interview, you will see that they have all the papers from the sealed envelope.

    They will keep this forever.

Make sure read the AOS instructions very carefully before filing. Your case can be delayed an awful long time if you are not doing this correctly.

There is alot of help on this website here. So swollow whatever experience you can from other people.

I wish you very good luck with your further visajourney.

    Anette (F)

Oh myyyyyyy ! that is very silly of them to keep it all and ask again for the same things, for instance, I am sure there inside must be my divorce certificate from Sweden, all translated and apostilled. Also the medicals must be there too, since i have none of it and the affidavit, all originals and notarized.

Well, it means a new divorce certificate, translate it and notarized it and of course my personbevis... again! just this time i have to ask someone because I am leaving after tomorrow and since i am not Swedish, have no relative, nobody in this country, hence... i have to ask my ex for it...

Have to go through medicals... again, affidavit... again!

All that seems so illogical, really so ilogical, JAG FATTAR INTE!!!!!!!!

Anette, thank you for the information.

  3. Hi there!

We didn't even know you could request that your visa be picked up at the consulate, so we didn't ask.

They are mailing it to us, which they say can take 7-14 days. Sweden does not deliver mail on weekends when my fiance is home.

Has anyone had their visa mailed to them? If so, were you home when the visa arrived? If you weren't, what did they do with it? Did it go back to the consulate? Did they ask you for a signature upon delivery? I'm curious because I didnt' think about the fact that he works all day and won't be home when the visa is delivered. His mom will be, but I do not know if they will leave the visa with her. To those of you who had their visas mailed to them, how did it work?

    Thank you!

    Jennifer :)

    Hej Jennifer,

I see your fiance got his visa, CONGRATULATIONS Here in Sweden is no fuss about the post, all is so well organized, goes so fast and sure.

Aftertomorrow, I will be flying to my love and yours is soon with you!!!:dance::dance:

  4. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!! :dance::dance::dance:

Thanks and Congratulations to you also!! :) His arrival date will be just after yours..his last day of work is the 11th (his birthday) and he'll be here the 12th.

  7. B)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Team J and B @ Feb 4 2008, 09:42 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->u2rsobad,

Congratulations! That's a fast wedding! But good date, Feb. 18, 2008 are good solid even numbers. Very good date, actually.

    Ganbatte ne!

Arigato gozaimasu! It's not really fast when you consider we've been together 12 years! Since his insurance won't cover him when he leaves Japan to move here, and mine won't cover him until we get married, it works best all way round. We wanted the 8th or 22nd (I have a thing about 2's and 8's :) )but it won't work considering he can't be here by the 8th, so that one's out and the 22nd seemed to be bad timing for everyone else involved, so we settled for the 18th. The only sucky part is I can't even take the 19th off work :( Oh well, at least we'll finally be married!

    CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!! :dance::dance::dance:

  8. YAY!!! I would say we could make plans... but I dont' even know when my interview is yet!! I am going to try and get my medical booked for the same day or the day before/after :)

Jeraly I know all consulates are different, any ways, I advice you to book for your medicals, so when the interview, you have it ready, that way all goes faster.

Usually it takes about a week from when the samples are taken, until the results are ready.

  9. For those of you keeping score, I (the USC) got packet 3 in the mail today...we are creeping towards an early February interview for Ruth.

If I may ask, why you USC have got package 3?

Isn't the alien fiance the one who should get it in order fill the forms she/he has to send to the embassy (in her/his country) for her/him to get an interview date?

Or may be each consulate works in a different way

Yes, you may ask....hahahaha. I'm not sure if all embassies do this, but Mexico sends a copy of packet 3 to the USC. Which is good, because several people have said that the USC frequently get their package, and the Mexican citizen does not get theirs in a timely fashion. And then I can scan the official acceptance letter, and e-mail it to my fiancee. The other documents are available on the embassy website, so in that sense it's a bit of a formality.

Aha, now I know where it goes!

They do right! I lived in Mexico for couple of years and I know how post works there... either take couple of months or it may never arrive. Therefore to send documents people uses FedEx, DHL, Mensajeria Express, Mex post etc. Sorry for asking, I just forgot that logical point. :);)

  11. and just incase you are not stressing about it already it also has a reminder of all the gumph you need to take with you.

    Thanks Jeraly and Weedebz!

I wish to get it very soon. I need my interview as soon as possible :yes::yes:

Oh yeees i am very stress already and i think that reminding will be great, I have filled so many forms and gathered so many documents, that now, i definitely need a remind what i need and what not any more.

PD Just sent back to Stockholm package 3 huh

While walking to the post to send package 3, I thought... all these process has been like a bunch of riddles to find a treasure.

  12. Beng & Carl,

Congratulations for your approved medicals!

And to everybody who has been approved.

We were approved on the 10th December, now the question is:

How to find out when my documents reach NVC? :help:

    Thank you!

oK this was supposedly the post i wanted to quote..hehehe! I got same question we were approved December 10 also. Is there any info can share to this question? :help::help::help: thanks

    merry xmas

    Hi Shallan,

Here the answer, I found this post here in visa journal. Copy and paste, ok?

You can find out by calling either the USCIS (to see if they sent it out) or NVC (to see if they've received it).

    USCIS: (800)375–5283

NVC: (603)334-0700, Press 1 for English and 5 to speak to a Live Operator.

And Yes, NVC will give you a hard copy of the NVC case number. You can also ask them for it over the phone once they received your petition.

  13. I'm still praying for an early feb interview.

Weedebz, how did you find out your files arrived to and left NVC? :help:

Call the DOS (Dept. of State) @202-663-1225, select Option 1, then option 0. You give them you USCIS case # and they'll give you your consulate specific case # if your file is at NVC. You can then follow up every few days to see when it has left NVC, when arrived at emv=bassy and when embassy sent packet 3 and date of interview.

Thank you very much Weedbez!
