  1. Bummer. My biometrics appointment was also cancelled due to the weather. ASC never opened up and there was a sign on the door last night saying that if it hadn't opened by 8 am, they would be closed all day due to inclement weather. Called the 800 number in the morning and found out they were closed. They said that they'd send me a new notice but I'll just try and get it done on Monday by walking in.

  2. Actually there are 5 POE's into the State of Washington. You forgot the Osoyoos, BC..

Actually, there are far more than 5.

In east-to-west order, the highway crossings are:

SR-31/BC-6, Pend Oreille County (near Metaline Falls, WA)-Kelway, B.C.

SR-25/BC-22, Stevens County (near Northport, WA)-near Rossland, B.C.

    US-395/BC-395, Laurier, WA-Cascade, B.C.

    SR-21/BC-41, Danville, WA-Grand Forks, B.C.

    US-97/BC-97, Oroville, WA-Osoyoos, B.C.

    SR-9/BC-11, Sumas, WA-Abbotsford, B.C.

    SR-539/BC-13, Lynden, WA-Aldergrove, B.C.

    SR-543/BC-15, Blaine, WA-Surrey, B.C.

    I-5/BC-99, Blaine, WA-Surrey, B.C.

There are also a handful of crossings that are not highway crossings, including at least one each in Stevens, Ferry, and Okanogan counties, as well as the popular Point Roberts crossing in Whatcom county.

I'm sure the OP was only interested in the four that they mentioned as they are all very close to one another. Of those, I have used the SR-543 crossing many times, and have found it to be courteous.

  3. Hey everyone, I have a few tax questions...I hope someone can help because I'm lost. I've tried reading the info in other threads but I can't seem to find the answers that relate to my specific scenario :(

I moved from Canada to the US on a K-1 in October 2008. We got married in October 2008. I have Canadian employment income from January-October of 2008, then EI payments that I received in 2008 after I was in the United States. I don't have a green card yet; but I did get the Welcome to the United States letter a few days ago.

Anyway, here's the questions that I have...

    - Am I a non-resident, a deemed non-resident, or what?

    - Where is the link to find the proper Canadian T1 form that I have to fill out?

    - Do I add my employment income to the EI income and submit all that, or does the EI income not need to be reported because the non-resident tax has already been deducted?

    - After I send this tax return to Canada CRA, do I ever have to correspond with them again?

    - What forms do I need for my US return? My US spouse didn't work in 2008 and all we have for income is interest income, capital gains (stock market), and the 2008 EI I received from Canada after I moved here.

Thank you so much for the help!

  4. Hi, I have a few questions. A pretty standard scenario, but I'm lost.
